Morning sustenance
Jade Starasked for a oneshot of *season 6 finale spoilers!* Snow bringing out coffee and breakfast to Charming and Emma who are having an early morning sparring practice since they missed it due to training.
I smiled as I watched them both from the window. Emma had been so determined to learn how to use a sword properly. Sure, she had a bit of beginner's luck a couple of times, but who knew when she'd need to properly fight with a sword? She'd never actually fought anyone with any proper skill before. It didn't exactly take any convincing to get her dad to teach her. He jumped at the chance. Normally, I didn't get to see it. They normally practiced at the gym in the boxing ring, but the room had been cleared out for the morning since there was moving and handling training for the hospital staff. Instead, they were making do in the garden. I didn't mind, it meant I got a sneak peek. I was no stranger to a sword myself, although I preferred my bow and arrows. It was clear Emma's technique was coming along nicely. I could see she was getting tired. Not that she would ever admit that. She was as stubborn as ever. She would keep going until either she dropped, or her dad suggested a break. I decided I would cut in before then. After all, they needed their nutrients, and caffeine if they were to survive working after this. Sure, I wasn't a fan of Emma's coffee habit particularly, but she had earned it.
"Pancakes, anyone?" I called as I balanced a stack of freshly homemade pancakes in one hand, and Neal resting on my hip supported by the other hand. Emma and Charming stopped sparring, faces red, and smiled. I couldn't help but notice how near-identical their smiles were. I placed it down on the table outside and gave Neal to Charming while I went back in and got the jug of coffee.
"Thanks mom." Emma said, digging in to her first pancake. "You're the best." She added with her mouth full. I smiled, sitting down beside her. I smiled. I loved mornings like this. Mornings with just me and my family. I couldn't ever see a time where I wouldn't enjoy waking up to their faces.
