Dresses don't make princesses
justanoutlaw asked for a oneshot of Emma feeling uncomfortable wearing dresses in the EF, so Snow decides to have clothes that better suit her style made for her.
I'd be going and checking out her stories if I were you ;)
Emma looked at herself in the full length mirror from every which angle. Snow stood behind her, matching Emma's frown. Whilst Emma was frowning at her outfit, Snow was frowning at Emma's clear distress.
"What's up Em?" Snow asked her. "That's the third one you've tried on. Do they not fit right? I was sure I had your measurements down…" Emma shook her head, sighing.
"No, they have all fit perfectly fine. It's just…I'm not really a dressy person, you know?" Emma said, trying her best not to hurt her mom's feelings. Emma knew there were bound to be adjustments as the family moved back to the Enchanted Forest. It had been decided that, after things didn't go according to plan in the Underworld, a fresh start might suit them all. Snow and Charming were both doing their best to make the changes as gradual as possible for Emma. Snow could have kicked herself for not considering her dress sense.
"I know sweetheart." Snow said sympathetically, racking her brains trying to think of a short term solution while she could have some more "Emma friendly" clothes made for her. Then, out of nowhere, one came to her.
"Wait here." Snow said. She quickly left Emma's room, leaving her puzzled by the mirror. Emma did as her mother asked and waited. Snow came back a few minutes later, a bundle of clothing in her arms. "Here." She said, handing it over to Emma. Emma examined it.
"Riding clothes? But I thought you said that they wouldn't be ready for a couple more weeks because of the materials they're made from? And that they're not exactly daily attire round here." Snow smiled.
"Yours will take a couple more weeks to be ready, these are mine." Snow explained. "You know what, so what if not common for them to be worn on a daily basis? We've spent three decades in another realm. We're bound to have picked up some new habits, new ways of life. You're the princess of this kingdom, Emma. If you feel more comfortable going about your duties wearing trousers, then that's that." Snow said. She smiled warmly, reaching out and cupping Emma's cheek. "I'm proud of you, you know. How gracefully you've accepted all this change in such a short space of time." Emma smiled, blush rushing to her cheeks. She still wasn't used to compliments. She really wasn't used to this whole new way of life. But her parents had been right, it was the best thing for all of them. A few little tweaks here and there…like changing dresses to trousers…and Emma could really see this working.
