A/N: Happy holidays!
Elena took Kol's advice. That next morning, she took time for herself. In the morning she went for a long run, got in a hot shower, and even made her and Jeremy breakfast.
"What has you in a good mood?" Jeremy wondered grabbing his plate. "Did you and Elijah fix things?"
Elena frowned slightly, leaning back against the counter while sipping her coffee. "No, but I'm not focusing on that right now. Today, I'm focusing on me. And you," Elena corrected. "Did you want to do something together today? Catch a movie maybe?"
Jeremy grimaced. "Actually, I was going to go over to see Klaus and train some more. Then Rebekah and I were going to go hang out."
Elena raised an eyebrow, but didn't touch on it.
"I can reschedule with her though. We could-"
"Don't worry about it, Jer," Elena cut him off. "Go have fun with Bekah and don't let Klaus kick you around too much."
Jeremy gathered his things and grabbed the last piece of toast from his plate. "Please. I'm the one kicking his ass."
Elena chuckled and watched him leave the house with a wave. She had the day to herself. What to do first?
She settled for a walk around town and dinner and TV on the couch. It was odd to have alone time for herself, but oddly, she enjoyed it. She kept her phone off and did whatever she wanted to. At one point while cooking dinner she blared some music and danced around the kitchen. She probably looked like a complete fool, but for once, she felt light. She stopped caring about what was to come and took a breath in the now.
She hid in her house the next two days after that. Though she met up with Caroline, Bonnie, and Matt one of the days, she kept her distance and ignored all calls and messages from all her vampire friends. She needed a break from all the boys, as Caroline advised when they met for lunch at the Grill.
So wrapped in a blanket, she rolled her eyes at Jeremy.
"Are you sure you don't want to come?" Jeremy asked her for the millionth time. The lack of vampire presence wasn't hard to notice. The Salvatores and the Mikaelsons were missing from the picture over the last few days. The last he saw was Elena with Kol.
Trying to push his sister once more to go with him to meet Matt, Bonnie and Rebekah at the Grill, he turned around. "You're sure? It will be fun, Elena."
"Jer, go," Elena said practically pushing him out of the house before he could ask her once more. Opening the front door, she went to shove her brother out the door, only to be met with Elijah standing there.
"Is this a bad time?" Elijah asked with his hands in his pockets. Momentarily distracted she felt an arm go around her shoulder. "Actually, I was just trying to convince Elena to come to the Grill with me," Jeremy said. "She's determined to be alone and has been the past two days."
Elijah turned his eyes back to Elena, giving her a raised brow.
Ignoring the growing heat in her cheeks, she took her brother's arm from around her shoulder and set it down. Then moving behind him, she shoved him out the door. "Goodbye Jeremy!"
"I'll be home by ten," he told her before saying goodbye to Elijah and leaving him standing at the door.
"May I come in?" Elijah asked when they were alone.
Elena shifted against the door unsure if she was ready to talk with him yet.
"Look," Elijah said uncomfortably. "I'm sorry it's taken me so long to see you. It took some time for me to come to my senses and abide by your wishes. Seeing past my own stubborn views proved to be much more difficult when it comes to you. But I'm here now and I will admit, you're right. I didn't respect you in those moments the other day, and for that, I do apologize, Elena."
Biting her lip, Elena moved to make way for him to come inside. Once inside, she wrapped the blanket around herself tighter.
"I know we see things differently than one another," Elena started, staring at the ground, "but I need you to promise me that you'll respect my wishes." She then met his eyes. "I need you to do this, Elijah. It makes you no better than Damon or even Stefan, at times, to go off and deem what you think is best for me."
The bones in his jaw tightened and Elena saw his rigidness. "I am not as fragile as you think I am," Elena reminded him, using the same phrase she did when they were at the New Jersey house. Elena made her way over to him and Elijah hesitantly wrapped his arms around her. He had missed her dearly. It had taken him so long and he had to let go of so much anger to get past his views and see Elena's request.
"I will try my best," Elijah vowed.
"In return," Elena said pulling away from their embrace. "I'll try to make sure you or at least another Mikaelson is around when Damon and Stefan are also there."
The promise brought relief to his ears, and he was unbelievably glad she would be safe with him or his siblings when the Salvatores made their way back into her life.
"I missed you," she sighed in his arms. Elijah suddenly felt like it was a great day. He couldn't have been happier to hear Elena say she not only missed his presence but also agreed to the terms with Stefan and Damon. Luck happened to be on his side.
"I missed you too, my lovely Elena," he murmured, kissing the top of her head and holding her close.
"So, you worked things out then." Kol had stopped by to keep her company while Jeremy was out hunting with Klaus and Elijah was out of town, chasing down a lead on Finn.
With her head laying on Kol's lap, Elena nodded contently. Kol had brought dinner over and they waited on the couch together for an apple pie to bake in the oven.
"And how did you get my stubborn brother to listen to you?" Kol wondered in curiosity. The sway which Elena had on his brother and the family as a whole was bigger than what he thought she may even know. Somehow, they began to grow feelings and care about such trivial things. She had changed them just by her presence.
"I think we started listening to one another," Elena shrugged.
Kol gave a small snort. The line seemed so cheesy.
"Have you heard any more about Finn?" her solemn face wondered while rolling her bottom lip around her teeth. From what she had last heard, he had been spotted in Texas. Elijah had gone down there to see if he could get a lead.
"Bex has gone down to track his trail with Elijah. While dear brother is good, no one tops Bex. She'll find something; she usually does." While Kol spoke the truth, he didn't want to admit that Finn knew exactly how to lose a tail. Even his sister, an amazing tracker, probably wouldn't end up finding much. Kol didn't want to put any more worry on the girl though. She was wrapped in enough drama and Elijah had asked him nicely to take care of her while he was away.
Nodding, Elena stifled a yawn.
"it's 7pm, Elena. How are you tired already?"
The nervous tell of Elena's reappeared and she tucked her hair behind her ear. "I've been having trouble sleeping."
If it wasn't for the tell, he wouldn't have thought twice about it. "About what?"
The scene of the pastor's farm plagued her dreams most nights. Each dream it was a bit different, but they all ended in her getting her throat ripped out and dying. It made it difficult to sleep and she felt like a nuisance if she bothered Jeremy.
"I keep dreaming about when we recued everyone at the farm. I don't know why it is stuck with me."
Kol immediately felt an odd sensation of guilt.
"It's not just the dying part," Elena told him in confidence. "It's seeing everyone. Right before Stefan attacks me, it's like it is all in slow motion – just how I remember it. But each dream is different. Sometimes I wake up with this heaviness and sorrow for Alaric," she elaborated. "Other times it's an irrational fear about Connor or another hunter who is just as bad as Connor one day coming to town."
"Even if that were to happen Elena. We'd kill him."
Elena laid in there in doubt. It was different with hunters. They came with a curse and it was one that she hoped none of her loved ones would have to experience.
"Are you afraid of Stefan Salvatore?" Kol wondered out of the blue.
It took Elena a while to answer. Whatever answer she felt like giving, it seemed like the wrong one. "Yes."
Kol nodded, secretly stashing that away to tell his brother and use later. He would not let Stefan Salvatore near her.
"I don't want to be," Elena said. "And I forgive him for what happened. But a part of me changed that night. I don't know how to explain it."
"You died, Elena." Kol clarified for her. "There isn't much more explanation you can give for your feelings about that."
As Kol rubbed her forehead and ran his fingers through her hair, Elena let peace fill her. She felt safe with Kol. It was a different feeling of safety than when she was in the presence of Elijah, Klaus, or Bex. With Kol, there was some sort of assurance Elena felt. It felt like no one would dare to get past him. He was the most violent and sadistic of them all (besides Klaus). If someone had a Mikaelson to be scared of, it would come down to Kol and Klaus.
"Sleep," Kol commanded gently. "I'll make sure to take the pie out of the oven and head out from there. Now close your eyes."
Too tired to argue, she curled up beside him, a blanket placed over her body to keep her comfy. Within seconds she fell into a dreamless sleep.
She woke up in her bed, startled awake by a noise. She swore she had heard a door slam. Carefully getting up from bed, she padded over to the door, peaking her head out for any other signs.
"Jeremy?" she called, her voice bellowing through the house. Walking to the top of the stairs, she looked down at the front room, finding nothing but a darkened house.
Everything seemed as quiet just as Kol had left it. Even using her vampire hearing for good measure, she couldn't hear a noise. Figuring it was her brain on edge, Elena went to walk back to her bedroom. Maybe she'd give Kol or Elijah a call for good measure.
Hands came around her neck and shoulders, dragging her back to slam against the wall near the top of the staircase.
"Finn," Elena sputtered, coming face to face with the eldest brother.
"Elena," he ground out, teeth clenched.
She wasn't sure what he was going to do next. Was he here to kill her? To stop her from stopping him? Was he here to beg for help or forgiveness? Or maybe he was going to try to take her away.
Not waiting to find out, her instincts kicked in and she maneuvered his hands from her body, kicking his legs out from him to run away.
He caught her quicker than she expected, catching her arm and bringing her back. She fought at his grip, resulting in him throwing her at the banister. Feeling it break against the force, her body went tumbling down a set of stairs.
"I just came here to talk!" he barked, stalking his way towards her.
Coughing as the wind was knocked out of her, Elena sat up, struggling to stand again. While she willed herself to fight, her body ached. Even with her vampire abilities, her body was only built to be human. "What do you want Finn?"
"My brothers and sister. They've been following me for weeks now. Why? What do they want?" he demanded.
When Elena didn't answer him right away, he swept her up, hand on her neck and body slammed back against the wall. "Why!" he yelled.
Elena felt a surge of anger at his barking and tossing her around like a rag doll. She was done taking his abuse because she felt trapped in her own fear. Breaking out of his hold again, she kicked him between the legs, knocked his shins and gave him a good punch in the stomach good for measure.
Turning the tides, she grabbed him by the neck, throwing him up against the wall as he previously did to her. "I'm sick of everyone thinking they can throw me around. You know, the least you could do is ask instead of demanding answers. Why wouldn't we be looking for you, Finn?" she asked, hand tightening around his throat. "After what you did with Esther and what you are now? Everyone wants you dead Finn!"
Finn seemed confused. He aggressively knocked her back. "What are you talking about?" He put his hands to his head, wincing in pain.
Keeping her distance, Elena watched as blood came from his nose dripping down past his lips. That wasn't normal.
"Finn…" Elena trailed cautiously.
"You have no idea what you've gotten yourself into, Elena Gilbert. No idea!"
Elena swallowed hard as she watched Finn struggle with his headache. Blood was beginning to come from his mouth, covering his lips and teeth in a thin sheen of red.
"Finn…. you're bleeding," she told him helplessly. She wasn't sure if she was to run or try to help him. Taking a step near him, she immediately stopped. He began panting and clutching his head as he fell to his knees. It was as if he was fighting his own self.
"How could you, mother?" Finn asked, staring incredulous at Elena. "How could you leave me like that? What were you thinking?"
Finn shouted at her, throwing her against the coat rack, breaking a mirror against her back. "What have you done to me?" he shouted with anger. The grip he held on her throat tightened to the point where Elena was left gasping for air. Clawing at his hands, Elena tried her hardest to squirm out of his grasp. He was holding her high against the wall, giving her no leverage or way to slip from him.
"Finn, it's me, Elena." Pounding at his hand, it took a few moments before realization hit Finn's face and he dropped her immediately.
Elena fell to the ground with a thud, hands getting cut up from the broken glass on the floor.
"Elena, oh god, what have I done?" Finn asked in horror. Stepping back, he ran his hands through his hair.
It puzzled Elena on what was going on. One minute he was violent and angry, demanding answers, and the next he was hallucinating. It couldn't possibly be a werewolf bite; he wouldn't be suffering or bleeding like this. What had Finn gotten into?
"Finn, what is going on?" Elena rasped out, her throat slowly healing itself.
"Something is wrong with me," he panicked to her. "something happened. I…I tried to get away. No, I got out. And then…I need more vampire blood. No, I need to find Silas. I need to find the cure. It will help me. It will stop me." Finn continued to ramble, Elena was barely able to keep up and make sense of what he was saying.
"Finn, what are you talking about? What cure?"
"A cure," he repeated. "A cure for vampirism. It's with Silas. I have to get it. I have to be free. Don't you see? I'm killing my kind. I have to stop killing all of them. Their blood…it calls to me. I-" Realization hit him and Finn's stature went from disheveled and chaotic to cold and calculated.
"You can't have it. No!" he yelled, knocking her back with a hard kick to the stomach, sending her flying over the back of the living room couch and smashing into the coffee table.
"It is mine! The cure will be mine!" he yelled to her. Grabbing a piece of the banister, he ran for her, ready to kill her with the makeshift weapon. Elena quickly got up from her spot and sped away from him. She had to do something. She needed help. She couldn't tell if this was really him or if he as hallucinating again. It didn't help that her injuries were dire enough that her body was taking a slow time to heal.
Finn managed to grab her before she could race out the back door of the kitchen. With a tight hold on her, he stabbed her in the chest with the piece of the banister, shoving it hard into her body.
Elena cried out in pain.
"Stay away from me. Just stay away from me!" he yelled in her face as he pulled her hair back. He raced off, grabbing a knife from the block. Before she could even get up from her knees, Finn had returned to her, this time stabbing her in the stomach. The pain was immense, a searing rush hitting her.
"Elena!" Jeremy's voice yelled from the front door.
Elena wanted to call out for him, to warn him to stay back and away from Finn, but blood coated inside of her mouth and she had a difficult time getting past the antagonizing pain her body radiated to speak.
Grabbing onto the knife protruding from her stomach, she gripped the handle tightly. Finn's attention was now set on her little brother. She would have to pull the butcher's knife out if she was going to help Jeremy. Her wound would not be able to heal with it still inside of her, leaving her weak. Jerking the large blade from her body, Elena let out a cry.
Jeremy held his crossbow in hand. With each arrow he shot, Finn seemed to catch, allowing for small steps closer towards the teen. Finally shooting the third arrow, Jeremy hit the vampire's shoulder. The arrows had been laced with a concentrated shot of vervain making Finn cry out in pain.
He left before either Gilbert could make another move, breaking through the kitchen glass doors out of sight. It was a relief at first, but then reality set in.
"Elena!" Jeremy hollered as he ran over to his sister. Jeremy held onto her shoulders to keep her stable as she stood on her knees shaking.
A large pole from the staircase banister was protruding from her chest, blood soaked around the wound. "Oh god," he exclaimed, baffled on what to do about the injury.
Trying not to panic as he grasped the weapon carefully, he put his hand on her shoulder for leverage. "Okay, just hold still." He tugged on the stick of wood hard, watching as it made its way out from her body. Throwing the bloody piece behind him, he held his sister upright.
Elena spluttered blood, coughing and wheezing in pain as Jeremy held her.
"What do I do, Elena? What do I do?!" he shouted with panic. Elena looked like she was barely hanging on and Jeremy didn't know whether to call Elijah to heal her or if she'd end up healing on her own.
"Hospital," Elena rasped out. "Jeremy, hospital. Meredith Fell. Get her."
Abiding by her wishes, Jeremy called for an ambulance and went with his sister when they took her away.
"Elena," Meredith Fell's voice said gently as she stirred. The room was dark, all the lights seemed to be turned off beside the one above her. The doctor stepped towards her bedside. "How are you feeling?"
Glancing around the dark room, Elena found no one was around. Panic struck her when she realized Jeremy wasn't here.
"Jeremy is fine," Dr. Fell said calmly in reading the girl's face. "I sent him to get himself some food from the cafeteria and then the Sherriff needed him for more questions. It seems there was a break-in in your home. Is that correct?"
Nodding, Elena then took a moment to see all the machines and wires she was hooked up to. "When can I go home?" Elena wondered, avoiding her thoughts.
"The extent of your injuries was fairly large. When you came in, you had a stab wound to the stomach and a deep injury to your chest. Alongside those, you had a few broken ribs, minor concussion and some glass shards stuck in your palms and your back. Jeremy told me about your circumstances and while it seems like your body heals at a fast rate, I'd highly recommend you stay overnight for at least tonight. Vampire abilities or not, your body has been through a lot and you're not invincible."
Dr. Fell set her hand on top of Elena's. "Please. It's in your best interest to stay for observation for the night."
Elena gave the softest of nods. Although she hated hospitals, Meredith's kindness made it difficult to say no.
"Thank you, Meredith."
A kind smile passed through the doctor's lips. "You're welcome, Elena."
The next time Elena awoke, she was met with a room full of people.
Elijah stood with his back to her at the window, while Jeremy sat at her bedside holding her hand. Rebekah was in a chair at the foot of Elena's bed and Kol paced the room. Even Klaus was there, leaning against the wall by the window speaking in a hushed tone with Elijah.
"You're awake," Jeremy noted first in surprise. Squeezing her hand, he held onto it tightly.
"I'm okay, Jer," she spoke tiredly. Smiling at everyone gathered around her, her eyes landed on Elijah last. He was hovering beside Jeremy, attentively at her bedside. His face was red, tears in his eyes.
"I'm fine," she said going to sit up. While assistance wasn't needed, she was practically all healed, both Jeremy and Elijah helped her anyway. Elena watched as Elijah's face masked itself. He had begun to put up a wall void of emotions.
"Can you all give us a moment?" Elena asked everyone, looking to Elijah.
As everyone left, Elijah took Jeremy's seat next to her bedside, holding onto her hand as her brother once did. Kissing it softly, he waited for the room to clear. When the pair was finally alone, Elena looked to him. Elijah brought his hand up to the side of her face, gently caressing it before leaning forward and giving her a long kiss.
"I thought I'd lost you," he said trying to keep his emotions in check. When Jeremy had called him to tell him Elena had been hurt and was in the hospital, his world had stopped. He almost had to say goodbye once, and he hadn't planned to have to do it again. Jeremy informed Elijah about Finn and his emotions switched from panic to guilt that his own brother had attacked her. He and Rebekah were supposed to be tracking him.
They all rushed to be with them.
"I'm alright," she said softly breaking his thoughts. She put a comforting hand over the one Elijah held against her face. Rubbing her thumb against the back of his hand, she waited and watched as the strength and business-like façade faded. Elijah broke down in tears, burying his head against her lap.
"I'm so sorry, Elena. I'm so sorry."
He repeated the phrase over and over, and Elena moved her hand down to run through his hair, comforting him as best as she could. "shh, it's okay. It's okay. I'm right here."
As he regained his composure and the tears slowed, Elena brought him close for a kiss. "I don't blame you for this Elijah. No one could have known Finn would come after me like he did. I'm here and I'm okay now."
"I promised to keep you safe," he told her. "I've failed Elena. Over and over again, I've failed you. How could you trust me? How could you want to be with me?" He pulled away from her, wiping away his tears with disgust.
"I trust you because you've done nothing wrong. You are here and I'm okay, Elijah. Dr. Fell wants me to stay the night for observation, just as a precaution."
Elijah full-heartedly agreed with the doctor's orders and was relieved to hear that Elena seemed resigned to the idea as well.
"I'm okay" she reassured him once more.
Klaus walked into the hospital room to a groaning and thrashing Elena. It had been decided amongst the Mikaelson family Elena could no longer be left alone, as Finn seemed to be anywhere. He had left an expertly planned false trail his siblings had mistakenly followed. The girl needed 24/7 protection. So, Klaus volunteered to take the night shift to watch the human while Rebekah took Jeremy home.
It had been a fight with Elijah to leave her in their care. He was a persistent bugger in staying with his partner, but he was in no shape. He needed to feed and Elena's friends needed to be informed of her condition. It was best if Elijah were the one to alert them as they were most receptive towards him out of the rest of the family.
Klaus surprisingly enjoyed the quiet the girl tended to offer. Elena was a person that didn't mind silence. He spent countless days with her in the library hunting down Finn without words being spoken. They could sit for hours together without feeling the need to fill the gaps in the air. It was peaceful at times.
"No, no, no!" Elena cried out. Klaus quickly dashed to her bedside to wake the teen.
"Elena. Elena," he called shaking her shoulder. Her slumber must have been deep, as she only stirred slightly.
"Elena!" Klaus called louder, this time putting his face near hers. The volume of his voice woke her from her sleep and startled her. He was lucky for his fast reflexes as she darted upward. Beads of sweat formed over the brow of her pale face.
"Are you alright, love?" Klaus asked in some concern. It must have been some dream for her to wake up looking so terrified. She curled her knees up to her chest, holding herself tightly.
As whimpers passed her lips, Klaus's concern spiked. He had never heard such a sound from Elena. While it appeared she was now awake, the fear had seemingly taken her. Her breathing was becoming labored and her body vibrated in fear. Her face was now so pale. Klaus yelled for a doctor but no one came.
"Elena. Elena. Look at me. Look at me!" he yelled to her. While he actually felt bad to be so harsh, she responded well to it. Her glossy eyes met his and he gathered his hands with hers. He sat across from her on the hospital bed.
"That's it," he coaxed, as the physical contact served her well. Her body slowed its vibrating tremors. Keeping their hands together, he brought them close enough for their chins to rest on her knees and maintain eye contact. "Breathe Elena. Nice and slow. That's it. In….and out…"
He modeled a slow breathing pattern, keeping an eye on her own breaths as she feebly attempted to do as he instructed. He had never seen her like this. It was completely out of character for her.
"What the hell are you doing, Niklaus?" Kol's voice asked walking in on the intimate scene with coffees in hand.
Flashing a snarling glance to the younger brother, he barked at him before returning his focus to Elena. "Mind your business, Kol!"
Turning back to Elena, he squeezed their hands firm together. "Come on now," Klaus coaxed in a gentler voice. In the time it took to give Kol his attention, Elena's anxiety had spiked, her breathing labored again. "In and out. Slow and deep," he reminded her.
As she began to get a hold of herself, keeping eye contact with Klaus as if her life depended on it, her body began to stop its shaking and her breathing returning back to its normal pace. Klaus gave a smile of relief. Elijah would absolutely find a way to murder him if anything had happened to Elena while he was away.
"Niklaus," Kol called, still in the doorway. The scene continued to be too intimate for his liking, though his focus was more on Klaus than it was Elena.
"Kol!" Klaus gritted while keeping eye contact with Elena. He was infuriated his dumb brother could not see the teen's distress. There was nothing romantic about this as though it may have seemed. "if you don't keep your trap shut for the next two minutes, I will come over there and rip your heart out from your chest."
Met with silence, Klaus retrained his focus to the girl once more. "You're alright, love. You are safe here."
Life began to fill her and her color slowly returned. Klaus could see the consciousness returning in her eyes. "Nothing will hurt you here. The big bad hybrid is here," he said with a coy and dashing smile.
The comment made Elena give a laugh, and it was a relief to hear such a sound. He never once would have thought to think such a thing.
As she returned to normal and her eyes dried from frightened tears, he set their hands down back on the bed. It was best to maintain physical contact with her just in case.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Kol wondered, glancing daggers at Klaus before walking towards Elena. Staring at Klaus and Elena's entwined hands, he paused. If Elijah had been the one to walk in on this, he would have had an aneurysm.
Kol handed Klaus his coffee and motioned for his brother to move. Taking his spot, Kol took hold of Elena's hand.
"It'd be helpful to know what went on with our dear brother, Finn, Elena," Klaus chimed in quietly as Elena was silent. He was annoyed with Kol for being a controlling bugger. It wasn't as if he was stealing Elena away from Elijah like he did with Tatia. The two girls were nothing alike besides their looks. He didn't fancy her. It's just that Elena was a bit more interesting than the other doppelgangers he encountered over the years.
"I heard a noise," she told them in such a soft voice they had to lean in to hear her. She picked at the blanket on her lap and tried not to shiver in her sudden fear. It was as if her body was on edge, tingling with pins and needles. "I walked to the stairs to see what it was, but I couldn't detect anything. I turned to go back to my room and before I knew it, I was attacked. Finn – I don't know how he got in the house – he hasn't been invited in…. he tossed me down the stairs. H-h-e was…. rambling. He didn't make sense."
"How so?" Kol wondered intrigued. It did not sound like their brother to be acting such a way. Finn was very much like Elijah in the sense of being composed and meticulous with his looks and personality.
Klaus stood pensively by her bedside. "Every detail, Elena. Tell us every detail. Don't leave anything out."
Elena then told them the bits and pieces she could remember about the encounter with Finn. She attempted to recollect what Finn was rambling, but it was hard to remember.
After she was finished, she watched both men lost in their thoughts. "What is it?"
Both Klaus and Kol glanced at one another. "What you are saying doesn't seem like Finn," Kol answered.
"Our dear brother is much like Elijah – cool, composed, calculated. Whatever he was rambling about is concerning."
"You mean, because he mentioned wanting the cure?"
"No, Darling," Kol said softly.
"Because vampires don't drink from vampires," Klaus answered. "Is there anything else you can remember him saying, Elena? Anything at all."
Elena thought back to Finn, trying to go over what was said. "I-I…I don't know. N-no, I-…. I don't think there isn't anything else."
Klaus sighed with a low growl, making Elena jump a bit.
"Don't worry about it," Kol said giving her hand a squeeze. Shooting Klaus a look that could kill, he shifted his gaze back to the girl. "Now that we have that out of the way, you need to get some sleep. Elijah will absolutely murder us otherwise."
"is he okay?" Elena asked in a small voice. She knew his siblings had to convince him to go home and feed. He wasn't properly taking care of himself, which was something Elena wasn't accustomed to seeing.
"Dear old brother will be fine," Klaus passed off. "Nothing a little human blood can't cure."
"Get some sleep, Elena," Kol said masking a smile to his face. He felt protective of Elena, and Klaus's brazen ways of comfort were bothering him. "we'll be right outside your room. Just holler for one of us if you need anything."
Squeezing Kol's hand, she smiled as he kissed her forehead and left with Klaus in tow.
