Chapter 8

The Betrayal

1995 started off on a really good note for everyone. Jay and Jeremy had their second birthday with family and friends. Marjorie and Mark had spent a couple of days in the castle. Of course, Marjorie had to spoil her nephews. She had brought way more toys than they needed. The biggest hit were two identical little Troll dolls. Krum's eyes about fell out when he saw them. Troll dolls were the latest thing in the Labyrinth Kingdom since last fall.

Krum had taken to Jay and Jeremy and liked spending time with them. Every time Aviana or Aria were outside with them in the garden he would come over and sit with them. He was almost like an older brother and the twins seemed to really like him as well. Even Deimos and Phobos had no issues with Krum playing with them and seemed completely relaxed around him.

Sarah found this quite peculiar, a usually Deimos and Phobos were suspicious of any goblin getting too close to the boys. Something was definitely different with Krum and Sarah made it a promise to herself to find out more about his history.

It was now early March and the weather was still icy cold and snowy. It hadn't been that cold that far into the year for ages. At least that is what Sarah was being told by longtime residents of the kingdom.

"I remember in 1668, when Jareth arrived at the Labyrinth Kingdom, it was that cold. Can't remember it being like that since", Chayrone told Sarah.

Sarah was only glad that it hadn't been that cold three years ago for her coronation. She may would have had to wear that ski suit like Jareth had suggested. She started to reminisce. It seemed only like yesterday that she had been crowned queen, and here it was, already three years later, with two year old twins. Sarah couldn't help but smile and looked over at Jareth who was completely engulfed playing 'Troll doll wars' with his sons on the floor in front of the fireplace. How she loved that man. With every day, her love for him had grown stronger, and the bond between them was now unbreakable.

Jareth had to spend quite a bit of time at the military base in Elvenwood over the winter month as more incursions into the Labyrinth had happened. Jareth was convinced they had an insider somewhere who passed on vital defense Intel to the goblorks. It was the only explanation, and Faron had agreed.

They had to be very careful not to include too many of the guards and army officials as they couldn't be sure who the mole was, but Faron had assembled a small group of trusted guards to try and find the informant.

Sarah was happy for every minute she could spent with Jareth, and she never complained about being left alone so much.

"Babe, I'll make it up to you, I promise", Jareth had told her only last night, after he had returned from a two week mission into the Labyrinth.

"I'll take you out on a romantic date under the moonlight and we can visit Emerald Pool Cave. I know how much you like being there, and we do have a lot of fun when we're there", he had smiled at her with loving eyes and Sarah had given him a kiss for it.

"That sounds absolutely wonderful. It's been two months since we had any time for each other, besides the occasional quick, well you know what I mean."

She had blushed at the last few words. She was married to him for four years now and she still blushed at the mention of lovemaking. Jareth found this incredibly sexy and a huge turn on.

"No, I don't think I know what you mean by that, babe. Could you please show me?" He had cheekily replied as he laid her on the bed and opened up her blouse. Sarah had only managed a giggle as he started to caress her body and kiss her.

Last night had been wonderful and long overdue.

"It's time to go to bed", Aria declared as she grabbed the hands of the boys. "Go tell your parents good night real quickly."

Little Jay and Jeremy ran to Sarah and Jareth, hugged and kissed them good night, and walked out with Aria.

Jareth got off the floor, sat down at his piano and played all of Sarah's favorite songs. She sat in her reading chair for a little while listening before she walked over and sat next to him on the piano bench.

"We never got to watch 'Sleepless in Seattle' after the winter solstice", she whispered into his ear. "I got a back row reserved for us if you would like to catch up on the movie?"

Her eyes shimmered and she had a sultry look on her face. She didn't even wait for an answer as she took his hands, put them around her waist and kissed him. Jareth was quite taken by her come on, but did not complain.

"I would love to see that movie with you in the back row", was all he mumbled back as Sarah took him by the hand and led him into their little theatre.

Jareth had been able to spend an entire week at the castle before he was called backed to the base for a few days. He had not been happy about it, but Sarah assured him she would be fine, and that she would visit him over the weekend in Elvenwood so they could have lunch together.

Sarah had strolled through the cobblestone streets of Elvenwood and had gone to her favorite little stores. She had managed to find the little cakes she loved so much at the bakery, her sliced fae stag ham at the butcher, and had a small milkshake at Frozen Dreams, even though it was frozen outside. At least it had quit snowing and the sun had come out.

She also had met a nice fae girl at Frozen Dream whose name was Oda. She had told her she was a childhood friend of Jareth and would love to tell Sarah some stories about him on her next visit. Sarah had agreed, as she always enjoyed hearing stories about Jareth' youth from his old friends. He rarely talked about his childhood himself.

"Do you know a fae girl named Oda?" Sarah asked Jareth as they were having their lunch at Elven Grill.

"Oda? Oda, doesn't ring a bell", he shrug his shoulders. "Why are you asking?"

"Oh, I met her at Frozen Dream, and she said she was a childhood friend of yours. Said she has some stories to tell me about you." Sarah laughed as she took a bite of her fae stag burger.

"Don't believe everything people say about me", he winked at her, "especially about my youth. I was a wild one then, but not quite as wild as they like to make me out to be."

Sarah chuckled and they continued their lunch.

"When will you be able to come back home?" Sarah asked with a sigh. Jareth looked softly at her and managed a smiled.

"Soon, in a couple of days I hope. We need to find this informant. Once we get that person, I probably can stay home for the rest of forever."

He smirked at her, tilting his head.

"That would be fantastic. Go hurry up and find him", Sarah demanded. "I want my husband back."

Jareth laughed as he saluted her. "Yes ma'am."

Jareth' duty schedule this time allowed Sarah to meet him nearly every day for lunch, and she was elated over it. At least she got to see him for an hour during that time, and she gladly took it. She made it a point over the next few days to always stop by Frozen Dream, and to meet up with Oda afterwards and hear a few of her stories.

She was fond of her, and was glad she had found a new friend in Elvenwood. And Oda seemed to like her too, as she always gave her a special little treat of ice cream for free. She even had brought some special snacks for Mara, knowing Mara didn't seem to care much about her. Oda called it a peace offering. Sarah told Mara to take it easy and chill.

Sarah would tell Jareth about the stories Oda had told her and he always laughed and agreed that they were true.

"I guess I know her, or at least she knows me, I just don't remember that name." He pondered during one of their lunches.

"Oh well, there were so many friends back then, and it has been a long time ago, I can't remember them all."

He came to the conclusion. It made sense to Sarah as she couldn't remember half of her classmate's names, and she had only been out of school for about seven years.

After lunch Sarah went back to Frozen Dreams under the protest of Mara. Mara did not like Oda, but could not tell Sarah why. She only had a bad feeling about her, but Sarah dismissed it.

"We can't like everyone. That doesn't make them a bad person." Sarah told her, but Mara only shook her head and grumbled.

Oda was quite aware of Mara's presence as she had pointed her out the first day Sarah was at the ice cream parlor.

"You can see fae wolves in shadow form?" Sarah was impressed.

"Yes, it's a special gift", Oda replied. "You know Jareth gave me that gift. He wanted me to see his wolf Ares." A hot feeling suddenly ran through Sarah.

"Jareth gave you this magic gift?" she asked surprised.

"Oh yeah, he didn't tell you? He was my first boyfriend", Oda giggled when she said that and another hot stabbing feeling ran through Sarah's heart.

"He was your boyfriend?" Sarah now whispered in shock. "He told me he didn't have any girlfriends before me."

She could barely breathe. Surely Oda was mistaken. Jareth had told her he didn't even remember her name.

"Oh, that's what he told all of them. Yeah, we used to make out in this hot pool, he called his secret place. I bet you know the place, Emerald Pool Cave."

Oda laughed and waved her hand at her. Sarah felt like she was about to pass out. She wanted to leave and at the same time she needed to hear this, all of it. Had Jareth been lying to her for all those years? She could not believe that this would be true.

"You are lying", Sarah accused Oda quietly and an angry hot flash crossed her face. Oda raised her eyebrows and stared at Sarah.

"I am not lying, he is if he told you, you were his first. He was one of the biggest Casanovas in the Labyrinth. He told me I would be his queen and then he dumped me for some other girl. He got bored easily."

Oda sounded aggravated and made a grimace.

Mara started to growl and Sarah motioned her to be quiet.

"I tell you what your highness. It looks like you have been fooled by your king. Come back tomorrow and I will show you some proof." Oda looked determined into Sarah's eyes.

"Fine", Sarah replied angrily after a few moments of silence. "I see you tomorrow afternoon."

Sarah didn't get a single minute of sleep that night. She paced up and down the floor of her bedroom and contemplated on what to do and say. She couldn't believe Jareth would lie to her for years and fool her like that. That was not her Jareth. Something didn't add up, but Sarah did not know what it could be.

None of it made sense, but how did Oda knew about Emerald Pool Cave? Jareth had told Sarah only he and she knew about its existence. And he had made out with many girls there? Sarah was about to pass out at that thought.

"I'm going to ask Hoggle, first thing tomorrow morning. I'm not going to find the answers tonight", she decided and sat at the window sill for the rest of the night.

Sarah rushed down to the kitchen at first light to find Hoggle. He was at the sink peeling potatoes with Krum.

"Hoggle I need to talk to you. It's urgent", Sarah insisted as she found him. She waved a quick hello to Krum who smiled at her with red ears.

"Not here, let's go to the study", Sarah demanded and she teleported him directly to the desk. Hoggle was astound at her precision.

"Hoggle", Sarah started off immediately without even sitting down, "do you know if Jareth ever had any girlfriends back then? You know, real girlfriends." She looked at him with anxious and scared eyes.

"Eh, Jareth was very well liked by all girl, but I don't remember him having any girlfriends. He liked to kiss them, but that was about it. Jareth was not much into girls at that time, he was more into fighting goblorks and partying with the goblins. He was wild."

Hoggle looked at her with bewilderment. "What is this about, your highness?" he asked concerned.

Sarah sat down behind the desk and put her head into her hand as she sighed deeply. None of it made sense, except what Hoggle had just told her. His story matched up with Jareth' version.

Hoggle, do you know a fae girl named Oda?" Sarah finally asked him with a serious tone.

"Oh I sure do. She had been after Jareth for years, always wanted to be his chosen one as she used to tell me. I was kind of smitten with her for a while", Hoggle turned red when he said that, "but she always kept going on about Jareth. That she wanted to be his queen and all that. Why are you asking about her?"

"She told me that she, that her and Jareth had a serious relationship in a place that only Jareth and I know exist." Sarah blurted out and tears started to well up in her eyes.

"Not that I am aware off. As far as I know Jareth never cared much for her, or even knew her all that well. She was kind of sneaky and went behind his back a lot. Jareth doesn't like that. He hates people who do that. I would not believe what she is telling you. He could be really cruel back then, but he never lied. Jareth doesn't lie, he never has."

It was those last few words that got Sarah's attention. "Jareth doesn't lie, he never has."

Sarah was convinced that Oda was playing some cruel game with her, but for what end? Was she still after Jareth after all these years? Was she angry he dissed her? It still left the question, how did she know about Emerald Pool Cave?

"Thank you Hoggle, that's all", Sarah whispered and remained seated behind the desk for a long time, contemplating, thinking, and pondering. Mara looked at her with a concerned face.

"I told you, I don't like her", was all she said before she laid down by the fireplace with a moan.

Sarah was going to meet Jareth for lunch, and this time she was not looking forward to it. She couldn't make up her mind if she should tell Jareth about her conversation with Oda and her accusations, or if she should keep it all to herself until she found out what was going on. He had so much on his mind already with the goblorks, was it right to bring this up right now as well? It may overwhelm him.

Besides that, she had planned on some other big news she had wanted to tell him today over lunch. News she had found out about only yesterday. This all definitely mucked things up for her.

Deep down Sarah knew Jareth had been truthful to her, but there was still this nagging feeling about how Oda knew about the hot pool. The answer to this was the missing piece of the puzzle.

"Come on girl let's go", Sarah called out to Mara who got up slowly and trotted over to her with a grunt.

"Are you ok girl?" Sarah asked concerned.

"Nothing to worry about", Mara insisted and stubbed Sarah with her nose.

Lunch with Jareth was quiet, very quiet and Jareth noticed. Sarah sat deep in thoughts and it seemed to him she was not even aware he was there.

"Anything bothering you, babe?" He finally asked her after she missed picking up a French fries for the third time, looking out in empty space.

"What? Oh yeah, I'm fine", she answered confused being jolted out of her thoughts.

"No, you're not. Something is bothering you. I know you too well by now. What is it?" He looked at her with a serious face.

Sarah lowered her gaze and shook her head.

"It's Oda, she told me some things about you, that were rather disturbing", Sarah replied quietly and with a hesitant voice.

"Like what?"

Jareth was now highly interested and folded his hands in front of his face. He only did that when he was very intense and serious. He stared at Sarah with a stoic face.

"Things she shouldn't know. Personal things, about us. Unless you told her about it, there is no way she would know about it, and I'm sure you didn't tell her." Jareth face darkened after Sarah had spoken those words.

"What things, Sarah?" He leaned into her and squinted his eyes.

"Very personal things, I don't want to get into those right now. I don't believe her, but I also don't know how she could possibly know."

Sarah kept beating around the bush and Jareth was getting very irritated. He left some silver coins on the table, grabbed Sarah's arm, and teleported them to an isolated spot where they were completely alone.

"Where are we?" Sarah wondered.

"In my briefing room on base", Jareth replied irritated. "Now tell me what she said to you?" He was extremely persistent now and Sarah saw flashes in his eyes as they darkened.

"She knows about Emerald Pool Cave, and she claims", Sarah had to stop there to take a deep breath, "she claims that you made out with her there. And not just her, other girls as well." Sarah's voice failed her there.

Jareth's face turned white as a sheet and he stood there speechless for quite some time.

"Do you believe her?" He finally asked in a very quiet and solemn voice. Sarah shook her head immediately.

"No, I don't, because if I do, than that would make you a liar, and you have never lied to me. That I know for sure. I just don't understand how she knows about our secret spot. There is only one way she could know about it, and that is because you and her", Sarah couldn't go on.

"I want you to go home, right now, and stay there. Do you hear me Sarah?"

Jareth looked straight into her face with his steely eyes. She looked up at him and nodded as tears welled up in her eyes. Jareth wiped them away gently.

"Babe," he said in a soft quiet voice, "I don't know what is going on here, but I swear to you, I have never, ever, in my entire existence made out with anyone, anywhere, besides you. That I swear on the honor of my kingdom. I will get to the bottom of this."

"I believe you Jareth", Sarah answered. "I had wanted to tell you something else, unrelated, but it can wait until you get home." She looked distraught, but teleported out of his office without saying another word or kissing him good bye.

Jareth felt sick to his stomach. He tried to figure out who this Oda was, when Faron stormed into his office.

"We found the informant. I know who it is." He cheered at Jareth.

Sarah had been back at the castle for about an hour, pacing up and down the study with Mara. Mara growled every so often and snarled when Sarah kept thinking the name Oda. Mara hadn't liked her from the beginning, and now she knew why. She was a sneaky, lying, pernicious person. She was playing some game with Sarah and Mara did not like this one bit.

Sarah finally decided to get some fresh air in the garden despite the chilly temperatures. Mara followed her slowly. Sarah had only been in the garden for a few minutes, sitting by the fountain when she heard a, by now, familiar voice.

"You didn't come to the ice cream parlor. I had been waiting for you to tell you the rest of the story."

Sarah jumped up and Mara tried as well but couldn't. Her legs weren't working for some reason and she felt nauseous and close to losing consciousness. Sarah looked bewildered at Mara and then back at Oda.

"I took the liberty to take that wolf of yours out. Makes it easier on me. Remember the little treats for her I gave you? Nothing like a little poison to get the ball rolling."

Her eyes shone with an evil glow and she grinned maniacally.

"What do you want from me?" Sarah yelled at her.

"What I want? I want what you have. I want your crown, I want your king, and I want the kingdom. You had to screw it all up for me, but I can fix it. All I have to do is get rid of you."

Sarah stepped back behind Mara.

"Everything you had told me about Jareth was a lie, wasn't it? How did you know about it, how?"

Before Sarah could say another word Oda jumped forward grabbed her wrist and teleported them away. Mara lay unconscious on the frozen ground.

"Who is it?" Jareth called out with excitement. He sure could use one bit of good news for the day. He had to deal with what Oda had told Sarah later.

It's a fae girl named Oda. She works at Frozen Dreams." Jareth stumbled back at the name and turned white again.

"Did you just say Oda?" He gasped with a terrified look on his face. Faron nodded but didn't understand why Jareth looked so distraught.

"I think we are having bigger issues than that right now. I think Oda is planning to hurt Sarah in a very bad way. We must find her". Faron stood there baffled.

"I'll fill you in on the way", Jareth said quickly, grabbed Faron's arm and teleported to the castle.

Mara was still lying unconscious when they materialized. Jareth had filled Faron in on everything Sarah had told him about Oda.

"She used an extraction spell on her Jareth, that's how she knew about your secret little spot. Sarah did not have any idea she was being manipulated. She must have also poisoned Mara. Didn't you say Sarah said she gave her special little treats?"

Faron ran over to Mara and looked her over.

"I have to get her back to the clinic immediately or we'll lose her. Go find Sarah, I have a fair idea where she may be."

Jareth was ready to teleport when Faron held him back. "Sarah is three months pregnant", he whispered.

Oda had teleported Sarah straight to the lake with the waterfall that hit Emerald Pool Cave behind its walls. They both stood facing each other. Oda kept touting Sarah with little titbits of personal information she knew about Jareth, information only Sarah knew as a wife.

It made Sarah's blood boil, but she knew it had been drawn out of her via a magic spell, not because Jareth had had a relationship with Oda. It was all dark magic.

Oda drew a dagger from her belt and stared down Sarah. Sarah stepped backwards, but with the frozen lake at her back she had no way to go. Oda sneered at her and lunged an attack. Sarah quickly jumped to the side and tried to teleport but couldn't.

"I forgot to tell you, your highness, I put a block on your teleporting magic." Oda had an evil sneer on her face and murderous looking eyes.

Sarah quickly ran farther away from the lake to be in the open where she could move around. Oda came after her screaming and waving her dagger trying to cut Sarah.

Sarah used all her skills she had learned from Faron's training classes and managed to land a few good kicks and punches that gave Oda a bloody nose. She only wiped the blood with her arm and gave a hysterical laugh.

"You can't defeat me. I'll kill you, and then I go make Jareth mine. And when I have him, I kill him too and I'll be the lone ruler of the Labyrinth Kingdom."

"You are seriously delusional if you think Jareth would every want you."

Sarah hissed at her. Oda lunged at her again. Sarah tried to grab the dagger from her and they both wrestled with each other. They didn't realize their fight had taken them out onto the lake. Both were only focused on the other.

Just as Sarah thought she had gotten the upper hand, the ice cracked. Sarah stopped to look what was happening, but Oda used that opportunity to launch another attack at Sarah. She lunged herself on top of Sarah and both fell down hard on the ice, which suddenly gave way under their combined weight.

As the ice cracked with a loud boom both fell into the icy water. Sarah felt her heart stop for a few beats and her lungs filled with water. They felt like they were about to explode. She struggled back to the surface to gasp for air but Oda pulled her back down and tried to stab her again with her dagger.

Sarah fought with all her energy under water to keep Oda away from her. She kicked and punched, but Oda kept coming. They both struggled to the surface again for another breath of air. Sarah tried desperately to pull herself out of the icy water, but the ice kept breaking and she kept sliding off.

Oda jumped on top of her and pulled her under water. Sarah spun around and grabbed Oda's hand that was holding the dagger. She squeezed hard on her wrist. Oda kept fighting and entangled Sarah. Sarah's vision started to blur, her lungs were screaming with pain. With the last energy she had she twisted Oda's wrist and pushed her arm towards her. Oda stopped her struggle.

Sarah kicked frantically and splashed around to get back to the surface. She had just reached it when she felt a tug on her leg. Oda had taken hold of Sarah's leg with her hand, the dagger stuck in her chest and he eyes were wide open. Sarah kicked hard several times and finally connected with Oda's face. She let go and sunk into the deep. Sarah struggled back up to the surface.

She desperately tried to hold onto the solid ice, but every time she managed, the ice would break more and she would slide back into the ice cold water. She started to lose feeling in her legs and arms, her lungs were starting to freeze. Sarah's vision started to fail her and she felt herself go under. Her last thought was for Jareth, and that she had not been able to tell him her new big news. Then everything went dark.

Jareth had arrived just in time to see Sarah sinking under water. He teleported to the icy hole, slit on his stomach, and reached into the water to grab Sarah and pull her out. As soon as he got her on the surface he teleported straight into the hot pool of Emerald Pool Cave.

He feverishly worked to get her clothes untied and off of her. He pulled her icy boots off her feet. Jareth threw her clothes and boots carelessly onto the rocks. Then he held her in his arms as she floated on her back, entirely submerged except for her face. He lips were blue and her face looked as if it was frozen. She didn't breathe and he could hardly feel a pulse.

He started mouth to mouth and chest compressions as he laid her into shallow water.

Breathe, babe, come on breathe", he would cry out in between giving her his breath. He felt as if he had been working on her for hours, but it had only been a few minutes, when she finally coughed and water flowed out of her mouth that had been expelled by her lungs. He immediately pulled her back into the deeper and warmer water.

He kept massaging her body, her legs, her feet, and her arms as he held her in his arms. Her lips were still blue, but she was breathing on her own and her pulse was getting stronger.

He didn't know how long he had been in the pool, but warmth started to return to her body and her lips had regained a nice red color again. Her face was still very white, but it didn't feel cold anymore. Her eyelids fluttered. Life was returning to Sarah, and with it excruciating pain as the blood began to circulate through her extremities again. She writhed in agony as she cried out.

He wanted to scream with joy when she finally opened her eyes, first to a slit and then all the way, but she stared at him without recognition and Jareth kept talking to her.

In his desperation he started to softly and quietly sing the song they first had danced to in the ballroom, 'As the World falls down'. He kept singing as he kept massaging her body to stimulate her circulation. She had closed her eyes again. Finally she opened them, and this time there was life in them, a shimmer he hadn't seen before. She looked at him, still, no longer crying and thrashing in pain.

"Jareth", she whispered barely audible.

"Welcome back, precious", he whispered softly and pulled her into his chest as he started to sob with relief. He slowly moved towards the shallower water and had her sit by a rock that jutted out from the surface.

"Can you hang on to this for only a few minutes? I need to make a fire and hang up our clothes so they can dry before we get back. You are not warm enough yet to teleport." Sarah only barely nodded as her eyes stared at him.

Jareth had one fire crystal left and used it to create a crystal fire that lit up the cave and filled it with warmth. He laid Sarah's clothes around the fire on the rocks so they could dry. He took off all his wet clothes he had still been wearing and placed them on the rocks as well. Then he returned to Sarah in the pool.

She was still extremely weak when he got back to her, but she did manage to put one arm around his neck and smile. Jareth gently put her in his arms and waded to the little stone ledge bench they always used to sit on. He placed her gently in front of him between his legs and leaned her body back against his chest as he carefully wrapped his arms around her for support.

Sarah laid her head back and sighed as she closed her eyes. "I'm sorry Jareth", she whispered very quietly, "I had to know what she did to me."

"I know, babe", Jareth replied with a kiss on top of her head, "You didn't do anything I would not have done. You did nothing wrong."

He smiled at her and for the first time Sarah held his gaze and smiled back. She even turned her body some and gave him an ardent kiss.

"I love you Jareth", she leaned her head back against his chest.

"I love you, precious", Jareth whispered. "There has never been another before you, never, and there never will be another after you, ever. You are my only one, my first and my last. Faes mate for life, we only have one soul mate. Once we chose our partners, we stay together forever. Only death can break us apart, and sometimes not even that."

Sarah gently squeezed his arms with her hands and rubbed her head against his chest as a warm feeling engulfed her heart listening to his words.

It was already dark outside by the time the clothes had dried and Sarah had felt warm enough outside the water without starting to shiver. The pain had also subsided. Jareth got dressed, picked up her clothes, and put his cape around her as he held her tight.

"Let's go home, precious."

He teleported her straight into the bedroom. Mara laid in the corner by the fireplace which had been lit and warmed the room. She lifted her head when they appeared, looked at Jareth with her green glowing eyes, and went back to sleep.

"You are very welcome, girl", Jareth whispered to her as he helped Sarah get in bed under some nice warm blankets.

"Jareth, I need to tell you something", Sarah whispered weakly. Jareth knew what she was going to say, but he didn't interrupt her.

"I'm pregnant", she announced quietly. "I had just found out yesterday evening, and I had meant to tell you during lunch today."

He smiled and stroked her hair. "I know, precious. Faron told me."

"Are you happy?" she asked, and Jareth could see a certain fear in her eyes.

"Very, I'm very happy, precious", he replied and kissed her gently.

"Will you stay with me?" she asked Jareth and he nodded.

"Let me get undressed and I'll be with you."

By the time he had returned, Sarah was sound asleep. He stroked her hair, kissed her forehead, and slipped under the covers next to her while holding her tight in his arms.

"Sleep tight precious. Tomorrow is a new beginning."
