AN: I'm surprised I had gotten a follower or two already. Don't want to get my hopes up so I'm not going to say anything else about it except for my gratitude.
These next few chapters will be more set up before the start of the journey, and this one specifically will probably be longer then most of the early chapters. Lengths will very be depending on how much I want to cover in the chapter.
That is all.
Chapter 2: a sad beginning pt 2.
Little streams of light leaks through the window and even with her eyes closed, Amethyst awakens. Straining to opening her eyes, she turns her head away so she could allow them to slowly adjust.
As they finally do, she looks around the room she's in and takes in her surroundings. It was quite empty really, with really only a dresser for storing clothes if one were to stay longer then a day, and a nightstand with a lamp on it for late night reading more than likely. The bed she was laying in had no imaginative designed covering as well, just being a pure black, midnight if her eyes deceived her. The walls were a cream white color as well, just adding to the blandness it had.
What had happened last night again? Amethyst thought to herself. I was in the alleyway when the man, Piers was his name I believe, offered me to spend the night under his roof to get out of the weather. He even offered me a warm meal. After that they asked for my name, and then…
. . .
"Amethyst huh? I would say odd name, but then again I'm named Piers, so I don't get to make the joke," The man who now somewhat formally introduced himself said.
"you got that right bro, anyway Amethyst I'll get you set up in the guest room really quick."
"Please you don't have to. I can just sleep here on the couch," Amethyst said trying to avoid being too much trouble as much as possible, making her look silly to the siblings.
"Don't even try it, after being in that weather for who knows how long, you need to be as warm as possible, meaning a soft bed with warm bed sheets," Piers retorted.
The siblings nearly pushed her to the guest room and wished her a good night.
"…okay then. Good night then."
. . .
Amethyst rises from the bed and exits the room. She walks into the open area of an apartment and notices that no one else was around.
They're still asleep it seems. Maybe I should get out now and leave a note thanking them for their hospitality.
A tap on her shoulder along with a soft "mornin" shocked Amethyst to reality and out of her mind. She jumped a bit and turned around quickly to identify the person. It was just Marnie.
"Sorry if I scared you," Marnie apologized. "I was just about to start on breakfast. You don't have any problems with eggs, do you?"
"Not that I have ever known. If there is in any way I can help I don't mind. I want to repay you guys for your kindness yesterday for taking me in for the night when you had absolutely no reason to at all."
"Hey, she speaks more then five words," Marnie stated with a giggle. "If you want to help then if you could help me gather the utensils I need and some of the ingredients that would be great."
So, the two began working on breakfast, and probably following the smell with still a drowsy look in his eyes, Piers walked in as they finished some cheesy omelets. He seemed to already be dress for what looked like his job of being one of the gym trainers for the Spikemuth gym.
"Marn you truly are a gift from above for preparing such great food every day. What have I done to earn you as a sister?"
"Hell, if I know," Marnie said to her brother who gave her a glare.
"Watch your language. You're not allowed to talk like that until your at least my age."
'Why do I enjoy watching these two interact so much? Whenever I watch them pick at each other like this, I feel like eating some popcorn.' Amethyst then let out a small giggle.
The sudden sound brought the siblings attention back to their guest, and Piers knew it was time for some questions.
"So, tell me kid, what were you doing out in the rain last night?"
The purple girl in question stopped eating her omelet for a second and began looking down, think about how to explain this.
"I ran away from home. It was a foster house, but the adults were not exactly the friendliest of people. So, I ran."
Piers did not like how this conversation was already going, but he knew he had to learn more about this, but first something else must be done.
"Marnie, when you're done eating, I need you to go to your room for a bit," Piers said in a serious tone.
Marnie, surprised but still recognizing how serious this sounds, nods in agreement, and began to quickly finish off the rest of her own omelet. Once done she went off to her room down the hall, but not before looking back with a worried expression.
"…How bad was it there in the house Amethyst? You said they weren't friendly, but in order to help you I need to know what happened exactly. I know it may be hard to do so, but to help you to I need to know."
"…It was fine at first. When I was placed in the house, I was welcomed in, but a few days after that things were getting rough. They were strict, so strict that if I ever messed up on anything, look at someone wrong, or talk back to someone, the "father" figure would beat me. It wasn't too bad at first, but my right leg was nearly broken after the last one. The "mother" just stood there and watch while it happened, with a face that expressed nothing. After I had recovered enough, I ran as soon as I could."
Piers just look astonished. He always knew some people were unnecessarily cruel, but this was horrible. He can't send the kid back to such place, or his conscience would never let him live it down.
"…Damn kid. I'm sorry that happened. We need to report this. I know some people down at the station we can talk to, but you'll need to do your part in order for this to work."
"I guess, but then what would happen to me. I don't want to go back. I just want a home."
Piers looks away for a second to consider this.
This kid has already gone through too much any person ever should so young. This kid needs a secure home where she can be raised well.
He looks back to her notices the look on her face. It's an emotionless expression, one that could happen when a person has had enough.
…Shit. What the fuck am I thinking…
"…I may be able to pull some strings. Look kid, I know we are basically strangers, and it's small enough here, but if you want you can try living with us."
SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK AM I DOING!
Amethyst looks up in surprise at the suggestion Piers gave her. She looks so confused at first but then the whole dawns on her.
"I don't want to be an annoyance though. What about your sister?! What would she think?!" Amethyst began firing off.
"I figured it would be the best option for you. I know you don't know anything about us, but anyone you ask would say we're model Spikemuth citizens. At least as model citizen a person from Spikemuth can be," Piers finished with a small and awkward laugh.
Amethyst was looking like she was starting to consider it. But something must have been bothering her still.
I don't blame her for being cautious. She's smart for someone her age.
"…There has to be a catch to this. I know there are nice people, but I feel like in order for this to be real there has to be a cost."
Piers just stares at her wide eyed.
Maybe to cautious for her own good.
Piers just inhales deeply before saying "Well nothing really came to mind then, but if you would live here you would need to contribute to helping around is all I would ask. I always felt guilty with Marn always doing so much here by herself, but if you were to help her out and as long as your nice to her I see no problem for you not being able to stay here."
Now it was Amethyst's turn to look dumbstruck. She looks down for a second and then mumbles something that even Pier's good ears couldn't make out.
"Can you repeat that Amethyst?" Piers asked her.
"I said okay. If you can set up something like that then I agree."
"Good. We should get this over with quickly. We need to head to the station, but first I need to talk to Marnie about this."
Piers gets up from the table to go tell Marnie about the situation of their new house mate.
"Mr. Piers sir!" Amethyst said before running up to Piers. He turns around to see her bowing and saying "Thank you very much sir. I promise that you won't regret this decision. I will do everything you ask and do anything I can to help you out."
Piers is shocked by the gratitude and is impressed by her mannerism, but also believes she's being a bit much about it.
"First of all, you can just call me Piers, and second you don't need to be so formal," he tells her before resuming his path to his sister's room to inform her of the new addition to their little family.
Family huh. This kid seems to be something else. I'm curious on how she'll grow.
I'm sorry for the view who are following this little story already for taking a while to update. Like I had mentioned in the first chapter I got hit by life keeping me busy and the time I did find I was too exhausted to really think about doing anything else except shiny hunt pokemon for some reason. I did find a shiny Necrozma, Regidrago, and most importantly Skorupi during the time though. That doesn't excuse my neglect though.
I again am trying to do this to make a habit of writing more and will be a lengthy process. It doesn't mean that updates will happen regularly, but I am hoping to stay with my goal of every few weeks this time hopefully.
On a side note I hate writing about anything traumatic because it feels to real for me, so I kept this as small as I could to make myself feel better. Call me a wimp if you want, but the reason why I enjoy the fantasy genre is because it escapes such cruel truths of the world. If I feel like this will need to come back for story purposes I will readdress it, but I'm hoping to stay away from it.
Starting next chapter, I plan to do a time skip maybe 3-5 years in the future where Marnie and Amethyst will indeed get their first Pokémon. We already know Marnie's but what's the MC's going to be?
Till then. (sooner then you might expect.)
