I'm glad it's just me
A guest asked for a oneshot of…read and see. (I hope you don't mind me switching the gender for my head canon!)
Next level: what would they be talking about.
Guest: I'm afraid that kind of thing has been covered too closely (I've also requested people be careful with demanding requests).
JRocks: I've actually done something very similar to this without the drinking and bail money.
Snow and Charming loved their little granddaughter dearly. Henry had moved to San Diego for college, so she was their only grandchild in town. She was also only a month younger than their own daughter, Rosie. The two loved each other like sisters. Unfortunately, that meant there was a lot of competition (and the occasional cattiness) between them both. Emma had brought Rosie over for dinner at her parents' before her night shift at the station so she could have a sleepover. While they were having dinner together (whilst facetiming Henry) Snow and Charming decided that it was the perfect time to announce that they would be having baby number four. This time, a baby brother for Neal. Emma and Neal were both delighted. Neal in particular since the numbers would be evened out. Rosie seemed happy enough, but wasn't as vocal as her brother or sister. Snow and Charming decided to leave it, knowing that Rosie would come to them in her own time. What they weren't expecting was for Eira to be so vocal on the matter, particularly when she thought her grandparents couldn't hear her. Rosie's old baby monitor was still in her bedroom. She had been ill a few days ago and it was the easiest way to make sure she was ok, since she didn't want to come into bed with them. What Snow and Charming didn't realise, was that it was still on. That was until Eira's voice crackled into life.
"I'm really happy my mommy and daddy don't have any other babies." They heard her say. The frowned. The girls were supposed to be sleeping, and they didn't like were this was going. "I know I have Henry, but he's a really big brother. I've never had to share with him like you and Neal share toys and stuff. Now you'll have to share with the baby too."
"It's not so bad." They heard Rosie say. "Neal and I share good. Mommy and daddy say so."
"Yeah, but babies don't. They cry when they don't get what they want. And, it'll drool on all your stuff. Probably puke on it too. And they smell real bad because they can't go potty. Yeah, I'm glad my mommy and daddy just have me." Snow and Charming frowned. So is that what their darling granddaughter was thinking about her new uncle? They knew it wasn't really. She was just trying to get one up on Rosie. The problem was, they happened to know a secret she didn't. One her mommy had been planning on telling her very soon, when the time was right. Maybe that time should be bumped up to the next morning when she came to pick Eira back up.
Sure enough, Snow called Emma before she came to pick Eira up to explain what she and Charming had overheard the previous night. Emma agreed that perhaps Eira was in need of a reality check. She came up and hugged her mommy with her little backpack on, ready to go home.
"Just a moment, Eira." Emma said. Eira frowned. That was her mommy's trouble voice. "Your mimi and papa told me that, although neither of you know it yet, they heard you both talking last night." Emma explained. Eira gulped. She had been pretty mean. "Not only were the things you said not nice or helpful, but I think you're about to really regret them, sweetheart." Emma told her. She placed one hand over her belly. "Sorry to burst your bubble like this, Eira, but you're going to have a baby brother as well." Emma explained. Eira took a step backwards, blinking rapidly. Before anyone could say anything, the little girl bumped to the floor and began to howl with rage. Thick tears began to pour down her now red cheeks. Emma tried to calm her down, but Eira had past her tipping point. Rosie, however, knew what to do. She came over and patted Eira on the back.
"It's ok, Eira." She said in her gentle manner. "We can team up against the babies now. There'll be more boys than girls since there's Neal. That means we have to work together." Rosie pointed out. "Show the boys who's boss." Eira hiccupped, rubbing her eyes with the back of her sleep.
"Yeah." She said, beginning to smile. "We can do that." She then allowed Rosie to help her up. Snow, Charming and Emma all shared playfully worried looks.
"Our poor sons." Snow commented quietly. "I'm not sure they know what's about to hit them."
"Not to worry. I think these two will be a match for those two." Emma said, smiling down at her non-existent bump. Snow and Charming chuckled. Yes, if these little boys had the same spirit as the two little girls, they might stand half a chance.
