~Remedied~
The epidemic was over. Toothless and the other dragons are cured, with Hiccup happy to have his best friend back in good health. He never thought poisonous flowers, a venomous dragon, and Mildew's butt of all things he would deal with, let alone in the same day. But he'd do anything for his dragon.
He was finished with the drawing of his Night Fury, carefully looking his work over. Eh, it looks decent enough, certainly his own hiccup-like flare to his drawings. Toothless, sitting beside him, crooned softly in response. The teenage Viking felt his hair blown back, as he turns around and smiles back at his friend.
"I'm glad you're feeling better, bud." Hiccup stated, reaching up to pet his dragon. Toothless happily accepted it with a content purr.
"You saved me once before. I always had faith you would find the solution to our sickness." Toothless affectionately purred, nuzzling his human companion in thanks. "My intelligent human friend."
The Night Fury did have a way with words. Hiccup accepted the compliment. But he didn't need to be complimented, he was just doing what a friend should, coming through for another and staying with them till the end. He'd do anything for the dragon. Toothless meant the world to him.
"Really, bud. I'm flattered." Hiccup brushed it off, just as Toothless playfully nudges him. "Aw, come on. Don't start this now, buddy!" He groaned.
Toothless let out a dragon giggle, licking the human's face. Hiccup attempted to push the affectionate dragon away, but he couldn't stop the onslaught of an appreciative dragon who was gonna get his way regardless of the young Viking's protests.
"If you're not gonna reciprocate my gesture, then please show me your drawing, my human." Toothless growled, jumping in front of Hiccup and letting his tongue hang out. "Or I might decide to tackle you. Keep that in mind."
Hiccup knew better. He didn't want to get into some playful altercation with a supposedly 'hurt' dragon. He got up and held the drawing, not yet showing it to his impatient dragon. Toothless smacked his tail against the floor.
"For the one who befriended me, you sure are a slow human at times." Toothless sarcastically remarked, doing a bit of a mocking laugh.
"That really hurt, Toothless." Hiccup joked. But relented and allowed the dragon to see.
Focusing on the drawing, Toothless tilted his head and looked over towards the Viking who drew it. He felt a warm feeling in his chest, feeling more affectionate towards the boy and unable to keep himself from showing a bit of a smile at it, purring.
Hiccup reached over and placed the palm of his hand right on the Night Fury's snout. Toothless closed his eyes and contently purred.
"You really do capture me well within your book. I like it." Toothless growled in happiness. "But then again, you continue to amaze me."
"As do you amaze me, buddy." Hiccup filled in.
Infirm from the poisonous flowers laid out by the treacherous elder Viking, he hung on. After everything he and the human had been through, he refused to allow it to end here and because, he couldn't leave his friend. He wanted to join on the hunt, to protect his best friend. He hated biding goodbye to him, worried sick for the Viking, but Hiccup prevailed and found the remedy.
Also finding joy in Mildew getting fair recompense for his actions.
"I know you were happy about Mildew getting the venom extracted." Hiccup pointed a finger at the Night Fury, to which the dragon did little to hide his joy over it. "At least you didn't have the misfortune to see his butt." He cringed at the mere thought of talking about it.
Toothless chuckled and walked over towards the Viking, wrapping his tail around Hiccup's waist and pulling him in. "Sorry you had to see that. But admit it, it was satisfying for you to see him get his deserved punishment. I know you were smiling when it bit him." Toothless leaned in.
Hiccup couldn't lie, it was amusing seeing Mildew get poisoned, although he felt sympathetic to Gobber for having to endure such a site. It was probably worse than losing his arm and leg to dragons.
"Okay, maybe did I enjoy it a little." Hiccup admitted, laughing. Toothless made a noise and joined in.
It was brutal. The Scauldron was a very formidable and dangerous dragon, even with his dad.
The fearsome beast pushed them to the limits. But he refused to back down. He wasn't going to let Toothless die, his most endearing friend meant everything to him and he'd put his life on the line without regrets to make sure that his dragon was fine, scalding water, venom, and Mildew, he'd take all of it on.
Hiccup and Toothless continued laughing, with the human wiping tears away from his eyes and catching his breath. Toothless looked out on the horizon, seeing the others riding their dragons, pointing his horns up and giving his friend a gentle nudge.
"We'll join them in a few, bud." Hiccup replied, setting the book down and looking over to the dragon.
Toothless crooned and looked over to Hiccup, who smiled and brought an arm around the dragon's neck, hugging him. Moved by the affectionate act, Toothless let out a content purr and closed his eyes, he'd never get tired of being hugged.
"You could've done this when giving me comfort back there, Hiccup." Toothless purred.
Hiccup laughed and broke the hug, scratching the dragon behind his horns and inciting a pleasured purr from his best friend. "Comfort and affection are two different things, bud. I wanted to make sure you were comfortable and know that I'd be back to fix the mess." He responded.
"I always knew you would come through for me and the other dragons. You gave me back my flight and you've saved me again." Toothless expressed his thanks by nuzzling the human once more. "I'm happy you're my friend, Hiccup. More than anything, you gave me something that I'll treasure for as long as I'll live."
Toothless was too kind. A friendship that's unusual but strong, the two have an unwavering loyalty towards each other. They aren't brothers by blood, but by bond they're siblings.
"I promised I'd find the remedy to it, bud. If I had to travel the seas forever, I'd do it for you." Hiccup stated, as Toothless crooned and nuzzled the human.
"And if you were in any danger, I would do the same for you." Toothless warbled, licking the human's cheek.
Hiccup remained silent to it, giving the dragon a hug. He felt like crying, moved by his best friend's words and affection. Toothless would've hugged back, but Hiccup broke away before the Night Fury had a chance at embracing the human.
"Thank you, buddy." Hiccup whispered, sniffling and wiping his eyes. "Come on, let's go."
Heading out, Hiccup attached the saddle and riding gear, mounting the dragon. Giving a nod to his friend, Toothless excitedly growled and the two took to the skies, joining the group in their fun, with the two buds quickly catching up.
"We can spend some time at the cove afterward, wouldn't mind spending some time with my favorite human friend like before." Toothless growled, flying after Astrid and Stormfly and doing a spin in the air, flying underneath them fast.
"Well, I could use some peace and quiet to finish some revisions in the book." Hiccup commented, before smiling at the dragon. "But maybe spending some quality time with my big useless reptile is all I'll need. I doubt you'll even let me get anything done."
"Oh, shut up!" Toothless huffed, smacking Hiccup with his right horn.
"Yeah, yeah, no more name calling." Hiccup groaned, moving his hair from his eyes.
A night in the cove, just having fun with Toothless, it sounded like a plan. Hiccup did wonder if this was something the dragon's doing as a token of gratitude for curing him. He wouldn't put it past the dragon to do something like this and he welcomed it, but hoping that he wouldn't be offered regurgitated fish again.
Flying higher, Toothless flapped his wings and the two soared past their friends, with the Night Fury and human flying through the clouds.
The end.
I would've had this out sooner, but got delayed a bit. I hope you enjoy this short little one-shot story, be sure to review.
