Chapter 1: Plan
Nessie's POV
No matter how hard I tried I could not stop crying. In the matter of one week my entire life had been completely turned upside down. My grandparents, my wonderful, loving grandparents who had taken care of me all of my life were dead. My parents had died when I was very young. So I came to live with my grandparents in Lexington, Kentucky. They were two of the best most loving grandparents I could have ever asked for.
Now they were gone and I was all alone. My aunt and uncle also lived here. They were too lazy go and get a job of their own. They were perfectly happy to take advantage of my grandparents fortune and do absolutely nothing all day long. My grandparents never liked that but they were too nice to kick out and my aunt and their son in law. My aunt and uncle never liked me for some reason. So being with them was the same as being alone.
Tyler's cries broke through my reverie. I walked over to the crib and picked up my son and gently rocked him. My aunt and uncle's dislike of me worsened when I revealed to my family that I had gotten pregnant. They said that I was just "an embarssment to the entire family" and that my son was "nothing more than a little bastard child that should have never been born," Their words had sent my grandparents into a full on rampage. I couldn't remember ever seeing them angrier in my life. Now here they were defending my son and I.
Yes I was young. I only turned 17 last month. I was being careful when I slept with my boyfriend. I was on the pill. But I'd accidentally forgotten to take it twice and that was enough for the pill to become ineffective and me to get pregnant. Now here I was holding my one month old son. Even though I was young I loved him and I vowed to take care of him. I would go to college as I originally planned and get my medical degree. I'd wanted to study medicine and become a doctor for as long as I could remembered.
My grandparents were always very supportive of my dreams. They encouraged me to study and work hard. Growing up my grandparents had nothing. They met in high school when they were both poor. They got scholarships to go to college and it was around that time that my grandfather had an idea that would change everything. He wanted to breed racehorses. So he and my grandmother got jobs and started saving every penny they could. Until finally they were able to afford one mare and one stallion. That was all it took to get them into the racing business. They bought horses. They bred horses. They raced horses. They sold horses. The horses they produced were so good they began to attract top buyers and trainers. The business grew and so did the profits. Soon they had enough money to buy stock and bonds. With that their fortune grew.
My grandparents always stressed how important it was to always work hard for what I want. My grandparents had tried to teach that same lesson to my mom and my aunt. My mom took his advice to heart but my aunt never did. She was just plain lazy and married a man who was just as bad as she is.
I sighed. Tyler kept crying. I checked his diaper but it was clean. "You're hungry aren't you little guy?" I felt stupid for having not figured it out earlier. "I'll go heat up a bottle for you," I kissed him as I placed him back in his crib. My sweet little baby.
I was walking toward the kitchen when I heard my aunt and my uncle talking. My aunt sounded furious. I was going to walk past them when something she said made me stop in my tracks.
"I can't believe they did not leave a single penny to me," she seethed. Was she talking about my grandparents will? I hadn't even thought about the possibility that my grandparents may have left a will behind.
"I don't understand it either," my uncle agreed. "They should have left everything to you. You are their daughter. Their blood relative after all,"
"It wasn't enough that we had to kill them. No. They just had to go and leave everything to her. All of their assets! The horses, the horse breeding operation, their stocks, their bonds, all their property, the one billion dollars they had in the bank. Why the hell should she get anything at all? She's just some random baby my sister discovered in a dumpster outside of Seattle. She is not a member of this family,"
My blood ran cold. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. They killed my grandparents. They were the reason I no longer had grandparents. My grandparents had died in a car accident after the brakes failed. But now it was clear to me that the brakes didn't just fail. They were tampered with.
"You know what this means don't you?" my uncle said.
"That I'm going to have to kill my darling niece next? Yes I already know that," she said. My heart was pounding in my ears. The world began to spin around me.
"Not just that. Remember what the lawyer said? The will clearly stipulates that only Renesmee and her descendants can inherit their fortune. If we kill Renesmee then-"
"That stupid bastard child of hers will inherit my parents fortune!? First they leave it to a girl who isn't even their biological granddaughter and now that little spawn of hers is in line to inherit before I do!"
"Shh be quiet before she hears us,"
"It's sickening," she said. "Tomorrow we get rid of the girl and that baby,"
"Agreed,"
I was frozen in shock. They were killers. Cold blooded killers. They killed my grandparents and now they were going to go after Tyler and I. I needed to get out of here right now. I needed to grab my baby and run away from here as fast as possible. We had to get out now.
