Chapter 6: New Home

Nessie's POV

"Come on Ness let's go meet the others," Bella said enthusiastically. I glanced back at Edward who still had not moved. He just continued to watch me. There was something vaguely familiar about him. I wondered if I'd seen him somewhere before. Did we go to school together before? No. I was sure that I'd remember his face if we'd ever gone to school together. It was bugging me that he looked familiar and I couldn't remember where I'd seen his face before.

Bella opened the door and I stayed behind her as I followed her inside of the house. When I stepped out from behind Bella the silence that followed was deafening. "You didn't tell them I was coming, did you?"

"Well no. I thought it would be more dramatic this way," she said. "Well everyone I have something to tell you. While I was in Seattle I ran into Renesmee here. My long lost twin sister,"

I could feel everyone staring at me. To say that they were shocked would be the understatement of the millenium. It was as if their eyes were boring holes into my body. I was nervous. Tyler squirmed in my arms and cried a little as if he could sense my nerves.

"Um, hi?" God was that the best I could do?! They probably thought I was stupid and incompetent.

A wave of relaxation suddenly overcame me. My heart rate slowed and I felt like I could actually breathe again. Maybe this was not going to be so bad after all.

A short girl nearly bounced with excitement as she came up to me and hugged me. "I'm Alice and we are going to be best friends,"

"I, uh, okay?"

Alice laughed.

Slowly the rest of the family overcame their shock and started coming up to me one by one. They all hugged me as tight as they could. I could actually hear the emotion in their voices as they introduced themselves. Right away they made me feel welcomed. This was my new home. At least for now. Carlisle and Esme seemed like wonderful people. Alice was an overly friendly girl that I could easily be friends with. Jasper was a little weird. Emmett kind of scared me a little. Rosalie was very quick to ask if she could hold Tyler.

Once I handed my son over to them it was impossible for me to get him back. Bella was not kidding at all when she said that I promised would have to fight them just to get my own child back. I didn't mind though. It filled my heart with happiness to see that my son and I had been easily accepted into this family.

I had a hard time thinking of them as my family. It was not lost on me at all that this is the family that i would have grown up in. I even wondered what it would be like if I had grown up with these people. My life would have been different. That was for sure. But I can't say that I wished things had been different. I loved my grandparents so much. I was so happy with them. I couldn't imagine growing up without them.

They asked me a lot of questions. I answered as honestly as I could without mentioning the money, the property, or even the horses. I most definitely did not want them to know about how my aunt and uncle wanted to kill Tyler and I over my inheritance. For now I was just happy. I knew that I couldn't escape my problems forever but I was going to enjoy the moment while I could.

I didn't go to sleep until well past midnight that night. It wasn't until I heard Tyler crying the next morning that I woke up. I got up slowly and went to change his diaper. He was still crying as I left to use the bathroom. Even in the bathroom I could hear my son crying. So it came as a complete shock to me when he suddenly stopped crying.

I rushed back to the room and saw a strange man holding my son. "Who are you and what are you doing with my baby?"

The guy looked up at me with such intensity that my heart acted stopped beating. I was breathless as I took in this guy's appearance. He was just so big and muscular, handsome, muscular, and did I say muscular? I only remembered to breathe once I started feeling very dizzy.

Deep breaths.

"So it is true. They did find you. I can't believe it's really you Nessie," he cried.

"Well you have me at a disadvantage. Who are you?"

"I'm Jacob," he said. "I'm sorry I wasn't here last night to see you. I was a little busy,"

"Okay Jacob. Why are you holding my son?"

"I'm sorry," he said. "I heard him crying and I thought I'd help,"

"Well thank you," I said.

"Here you can have him back if you want," he handed Tyler back to me.

I didn't know what to say or what to even think. My thoughts were more scrambled then eggs right now. I moved over and accidentally bumped into Jacob. His skin was so hot that I nearly had a heart attack.

"Jacob are you alright?"

"I have never been better. Why do you ask?"

"Because your skin is burning up. That's why,"

He laughed. "Oh it's nothing. I just run a little bit of a higher temperature than usual,"

"A bit? It feels like you have a fever,"

Tyler started crying again. "I think he's just hungry. Do you mind holding him again while I go make him a bottle?"

Jacob smiled like he was the happiest man on the planet. "Of course," as soon as I handed Tyler back to him he quieted down. It was oddly quiet when I went down to the kitchen. Where was everyone? I finished warming up the bottle and went back.

Jacob was rocking Tyler when I got back. Tyler had stopped crying. "Thanks Jacob,"

"No problem. Hey why don't you let me feed him?"

"Really? Are you sure about that?"

"Of course I am sure. This little guy is growing on me fast,"

I couldn't believe it. Damon didn't want anything to do with his son and here was this complete stranger holding him, calming him down, and even feeding him. It was mind boggling to him.

"Actually Nessie I wanted to ask you something. I was wondering if maybe you'd like to go out to dinner with me, maybe tonight? I really like you and I want to get to know you better,"

"I, uh, well I'm not sure that's such a good idea,"

"Why not?" he looked down at my son. "Oh that's right. You're with someone already,"

"Well not exactly,"

"What do you mean not exactly? I'm confused,"

"Well I'm not really with anybody at the moment. I'm just-oh I don't even know what I'm talking about," Now I really sounded like an idiot and I knew it. I blushed a bright crimson red.

"Then why-"

"I guess I just don't understand why you'd bother dating a girl who already has a baby. Surely a guy like you has better options out there. Girls that aren't tied down with such a big responsibility. The sooner that you realize there's something better out there for you the better,"

He didn't know what to say. "So because you have a baby you think that means you don't deserve to have a man by your side? You shouldn't sell yourself short like that. I happen to want to go out with you. Any man would have to be an absolute moron to turn you down just because you have a son. Besides I really like this little guy of yours,"

"Well-"

"Please Ness. Just go out with me once. If you don't like it we don't have to start dating or anything. But I think you should at least give yourself a chance to be happy,"

"You really are different than Tyler's father alright,"

"How so?"

"He wants absolutely nothing to do with his own son. He actually accused me of creating on him. He made sure that the whole school thought I was nothing more than a cheating little slut so nobody would think Tyler was his. That's why I have such a hard time believing that a guy like you would go out of your way to willingly date a girl with a baby. I can't fathom it,"

Jacob was shaking. "That guy was an idiot to treat you the way he did. It makes me so mad. If I ever meet him I'm going to smash his face in,"

"So you really don't care that I have a baby?"

"No. I love babies. I used to have one-" he stopped himself midsentence. Tears filled his eyes.

"Are you okay?"

"I'll be fine,"

"You used to have a baby?" I asked him. "What do you mean by that?"

He took a deep breath.

"I'm sorry you don't have to tell me,"

"A few years ago my girlfriend gave birth to our daughter. But a week after our daughter was born she got really sick and the doctors couldn't save her. So she died,"

I swallowed back the lump that had formed in my throat. "I'm so sorry for your loss,"

"You have nothing to apologize for," he said.

"What happened to your girlfriend if you don't mind my asking?"

He sighed. "Leah didn't take our daughter's death very well. She disappeared and no one has been able to contact her. I have no idea where she's at,"

"I'm so sorry Jacob," I couldn't think of anything else to say.

"I'll be okay. Anyway why don't we talk about something else now? I'd like to know more about you,"
