Chapter 17: Murderer

Nessie's POV

Before I could react my uncle had tackled me to the ground. The device that I had used to record everything slid out of my pocket. When I reached over to grab it my uncle twisted my arm as he attempted to get the gun out of my hand.

I should've just taken the shot when I had the chance. I pushed back as hard as I could and he fell backwards. Just as I was about to shoot him my aunt came at me from the side.

I could hear police sirens in the distance. I fought off my aunt and this time I didn't hesitate. I shot her right through the chest. She died instantly. I took advantage of my uncle's shock to shoot him as well. He was dead before he hit the floor.

I took in a deep shaky breath. I couldn't believe what I had just done. I'd just killed my own aunt and uncle. But they had killed my grandparents and wanted to kill me and my baby. The threat was gone.

There was blood on my leg. That must've been where I'd gotten hit by a bullet. But the wound was also sealed up now. Must've been the vampire genetics that caused it to heal quickly.

I looked at the two bodies and I started to hyperventilate. I couldn't believe that I'd done it. I'd killed my aunt and uncle.

The sirens blared loudly now. Shit. Had my aunt or uncle called the police? Or maybe they texted 911 and that's why I never heard them. Shit. Oh dear Lord I'm in the deepest shit a person could be in.

Several police officers got out of their respective patrol cars with their guns pointed at me.

"Drop the weapon!" one shouted at me. I complied instantly and dropped the gun.

"Hands above your head!" another guy shouted at me.

I raised my hands faster than a normal human being would've. I didn't move an inch as the police officers approached me with their raised guns. One wrong move and they'd probably shoot me on the spot. I mean there's always a chance I'd survive being half vampire but I didn't want to find out.

Once the police officer gave me a pat down he grabbed my arms and put me in handcuffs. As I was being walked to one of the police cars I saw another carefully pick up the murder weapon and put it into a plastic bag for evidence. What he didn't pick up, or perhaps didn't see, was the recording device. I wanted to shout at him to grab the recorder as well but being in the situation that I was currently in I didn't think that was a good idea.

I looked at my aunt and uncle their on the floor one last time. I couldn't believe that I had done it. That I actually killed them. It was a relief though. They were dead. My son was no longer in any danger and that was all that mattered to me. I'd spend the rest of my life behind bars if it meant securing my son's safety.

I looked over at my aunt and uncle one last time and shuddered. In all of my life I never could have imagined that I'd get labeled a murderer. But here I was. I'd done it and now I just had to let the pieces fall where they may. All that mattered is that Tyler was now safe. I was safe now also.

As soon as we arrived I was booked and then placed in a cell with a security guard watching my every move. I sat and waited for something to happen. Then another guy came and took me to another room for questioning.

"I want you to tell me in your own words exactly what happened," he said.

"I went looking for my aunt and uncle because they kept threatening to kill my son and I. A few weeks ago I'd overheard them admit that they had killed my grandparents also. I went looking for them so I could get them to confess their crime. I was going to bring the evidence to the police,"

"and what happened when you met you with your aunt and uncle?"

"Things turned bad fast. My uncle pulled out a gun on me and I fought him. I took the weapon from him and he and my aunt fought me. That's when I shot and killed them. It was purely self defense. It wasn't premeditated I swear,"

"You say your aunt and uncle killed your grandparents? Where's your proof?"

"I lost the recording in the struggle. But I'm sure if you go back to the crime scene then you'll-"

"Look kid you're being charged with a double homicide. Without any proof that it was self defense you're looking at a lifetime sentence. So you better get a good lawyer and you better get one fast," he said.

"But I'm telling you the recording I made, the evidence, is at the scene of the crime itself. Can't you or someone go back and get it?"

"Nothing of the nature was recovered at the crime scene. Like I said. You should get a lawyer," he said. "Take her back to her cell,"

My legs felt wobbly as I walked back. This was not good. Not good at all. "Don't I get at least get a phone call?" I asked as the police officer was about to open the cell.

"Fine. But make it fast," he said as he led me to a phone instead.

My hands shook as I attempted to hold the phone steady long enough to press the numbers. Bella answered on the second ring.

"Who is this?" Bella asked sounding confused.

"Hi mom it's me," I felt like I was going to throw up.

"Nessie!" her voice sounded relieved. "Where are you? We came home and Jacob was panicking because you were gone. Where are you?"

I took a deep breath. "Mom I don't know how to tell you this but I'm jail. I was arrested for a double homicide,"

"What?" she said the word very slowly as if she couldn't understand what I was saying.

"Mom I'm in jail because I just committed a double homicide,"
