Running a temperature- part 2
Torie714 asked for a oneshot of a sequel to Ch1420 "Running a temperature".
Snow and Charming hardly slept a wink that night. Despite the decision being made that Emma shouldn't go to hospital, that didn't stop her parents from worrying about her. Every half hour or so one of them would go up to Emma's room to check on how she was doing, and if they would need to change their minds and visit the hospital after all. But there was no need. Around four am, when Charming went up to check on her, he discovered that her fever had broken. She still wasn't exactly cool, but there was a noticeable difference. He went back down and informed Snow. Only then did they both sleep.
Snow only got a couple hours of broken sleep. Even though Charming had assured her that Emma was now on the mend, she was still worried her fever would spike again. Around half six, Snow got up, wrapped her dressing gown around her, and made her way up to Emma's room for the fourth time that night. Only this time, she found Emma awake.
"Hey." Snow whispered from the doorway. Emma moved her head in the direction of the voice.
"Hi." She whispered back at her mother. "What time is it?"
"It's still early. You should go back to sleep." Snow informed her. Emma seemed confused.
"I don't even remember coming to bed last night." Emma whispered hoarsely. "Or much of the whole evening, really. I kind of remember talking about watching a movie together. Then, nothing." Emma said, becoming alarmed. Snow came over and sat on the edge of Emma's bed.
"That would be because you had one heck of a fever." Snow explained. She pressed the back of her hand against Emma's forehead, pleased that she definitely was cooler. "You seem better now. How you feeling?"
"Alright I guess." Emma responded as Snow grabbed the glass of water from her bedside table and handed it to her.
"How's the patient?" Came another gentle voice from Emma's door. Snow turned and smiled, of course Charming wouldn't be long behind her.
"I'm fine." Emma insisted. "If mom hadn't have mentioned it, I wouldn't even have known I had a fever." Emma told him. Charming nodded, coming into the room.
"We're just glad you're alright." He said, kissing Emma's forehead. He relaxed. She was even cooler than she had been when he first noticed her fever had broken.
"…Does this mean I don't have to take the early shift today?" Emma asked hopefully. Charming chuckled.
"I guess a sick day is in order for you." He agreed. Emma smiled smugly. Sure, she felt a little rough, but it wasn't that bad. This unknown fever had been a bit of a win for her. She wondered how her parents had even known in the first place. She didn't think too much of it though. Snow and Charming decided not to tell Emma about her sudden cuddliness the previous evening. They didn't want to embarrass her. Some things were best left unsaid.
