The morning sunlight shined through the water tribe house window. Katara was currently brushing her hair to get ready for the day. This was one of her favorite parts of her daily routine. Everything was always so calm and peaceful before the typical chaos that would erupt between the gaang.

Humming along to some unknown tune, Katara was suddenly interrupted from her thoughts by a loud noise coming from the other side of the house. Katara rushed out of her room to see what the commotion was, hoping that it was nothing too serious. As she entered the kitchen she heard Sokka screaming out in pain.

"Oh stop your whining snoozels, you really thought you could sneak up on me? You know better than that!" yelled Toph. Katara walked in to see Sokka laying on the floor holding his arm with Toph standing right next to him like nothing even happened.

"What is going on in here? I heard you from my room?" asked a concern Katara.

"TOPH ATTACKED ME AND THREW THIS KNIFE AT MY ARM." Sokka yelled still on the floor while picking up the knife to throw it back at Toph in anger. Toph quickly metal bent it away, making it fly across the room.

Katara rolled her eyes at her brother's dramatic attitude. "Sokka please stop yelling you're fine. It's just a little cut." She then bent some water from the sink to her hands, sitting on the floor to heal his cut.

"Haha!" laughed Toph while pointing at the whining boy in front of her.

"Toph, rocks and boulders are one thing but knives are off limits." reprimanded Katara. "I can't believe I even had to say this. I thought we were mature but I guess not."

Sokka then flung his unhurt arm up to his forehead and dramatically said "it hurts! There's so much pain! I'm dying!" while pretending to pass out.

Not knowing what happened before he arrived, Aang walked into the room picking up the knife from the floor before asking "what happened in here and why is Sokka on the floor?"

Katara finished healing Sokka's arm then walked toward Aang to grab to knife out of his hand, putting it away before someone else gets hurt. "You don't want to know." sighed Katara as she walked out of the room holding her head in frustration.

Aang chased after her grabbed her gently by the wrist. "Sweetie, what's wrong?" he asked.

Katara smiled at his concern and was glad that their relationship was better off now than the day before. Yesterday consisted of them spending most of the day apart, angry at each other, but lucky they talked through their differences. She was blessed to have someone that cared about her as much as Aang did.

"Nothing is wrong, just a little frustrated with Sokka but it's nothing unheard of."

Aang sensed that she needed to calm down and enjoy the rest of the day so he suggested "let's get away for the day, just the two of us."

Katara lifted her eyebrow in suspicion and smirked up at him. "What do you have planned, lover boy?"

"I don't have anything planned as of right now but that's what will make today so fun. Well just do whatever comes to mind." chuckling at his nickname. "Is that okay?"

"That sounds wonderful Aang." Katara said while leaning in to peck his cheek.

While Katara was busy packing a basket with dinner for the two, Aang fed and prepared Appa for wherever the young couple would decide to fly to.

"Are you ready for some fun?" said Katara as she skipped her way out of the house to Appa with the food basket.

Aang smiled and turned towards Katara. "Of course and so is Appa." They then heard the bison roar in response which made the two chuckle.

When they finally were up in the air Aang turned to Katara and said "I thought maybe we could have dinner up in the sky before going somewhere."

Katara's eyes lit up at the idea as she opened the basket to place the food out. They were use to flying on Appa due to their travels but they never had a romantic dinner up in sky. She was overjoyed and quite surprised to hear Aang suggest this but she thought it was an amazing idea.

The two of them spent the next hour flying around the snowy hillsides while talking about their childhoods before they met. Aang explained a few of the games him and the other air bender kids would play while Katara talked about the many tricks her and Sokka would do as a child in order to get out of doing chores.

"...and then Sokka would hide from my mom in a pile of snow just to get out of cleaning his room." Katara explained with tears falling down her face from laughing.

Aang enjoyed hearing these happy stories about the two siblings. He loved hearing about all the cheerful times they had before their lives were turned upside down.

"Did your mom ever find him? He couldn't have lasted long in the freezing snow." Aang asked with a smile on his face.

"Oh, every time. He was never good at hiding but my mom never yelled at him for it. She understood that any kid would do anything to get out of chores and would laugh with him." said Katara reminiscing on good times.

A few seconds past before Aang realized Katara's mood had switched due to talking about her mom. He knew that it was a touchy subject but he wanted her to feel comfortable talking about her around him.

Aang grabbed Katara's hand in his to comfort her. "Your mom sounds like an amazing lady." he confesses truthfully.

"She was." Katara said when looking into his eyes. "I wish she was here to meet you. She would've loved you."

That made his heart full with love. "You think so?"

Without any hesitation Katara responded with "definitely. You two are very similar actually."

This caught Aang's attention. "What's so similar about us?"

"You both are very kind and gentle spirits who would do anything for the people you love." confessed Katara with a smile on her face as she thought about the amazing person her mom was.

Aang remained silent for a few seconds as he thought about what her mom would've been like. If she was anything like Katara said she was then he would've gotten along with her very well.

An idea popped into Katara's head and before Aang could respond she grabbed Appa's reins from him and guided Appa to a special location.

Confused to her sudden outburst Aang asked "um Katara, where are we going?"

Katara smiled while looking straight ahead. "You'll see. I swear you're going to love it!"

After a few minutes of flying to an unknown location, Aang saw Katara slowly guide Appa closer to the ground. Assuming that they were there Aang looked down to see nothing below them. At this point he is even more confused than before, but before he could ask Katara where they were she grabbed his hand and pulled him off of Appa.

Aang followed Katara hand in hand towards a stone laying independently in the middle of a field. It was then that he realized this was a grave, and he had a feeling that he knew who it belonged to.

As they approached the grave Katara shyly said "I know this isn't the most ideal situation but I hope it doesn't make you uncomfortable being here."

She took a deep breath then turned toward the stone. "Hey mom. It's been a while. I'm doing well. Anyway there's someone I want you to meet."

Katara turned to Aang and grabbed his hand pulling him closer to her. "Mom, this is Aang. Aang, mom."

In that moment Aang felt so many emotions. He was honored that Katara felt comfortable enough to show him her mom's grave. He also felt very saddened because she couldn't be physically there with them.

"It's very nice to meet you miss. You have an amazing daughter." Aang said as he looked over at Katara.

She blushed at his silly comment then told him "Aang, you don't have to impress her; she can't respond you know."

"I know but I want her to know how much you mean to me." said Aang. He then knelt down to respectfully talk to her mom. "I hope you can see how much your daughter means to me. She has helped me through so much and I don't know what I would've done without her by my side."

At this point Katara is in tears at what Aang has said. She did not expect him to say any of that or act this way when coming here. Honestly she just wanted to show Aang where her mother was out of respect.

She then sat down next to Aang on the ground and put her head on his shoulder. She stayed quite letting him continue his speech.

"I promise to love and cherish every second I have with her because it's what she deserves. I also want you to know that I will always protect Katara. She means the world to me and I would sacrifice myself before I'd let anything happen to her." Aang confessed.

He looked over to see Katara smiling at him with tears in her eyes but continued. "Katara is very much capable of protecting herself as well. You would be so proud of everything she has accomplished. I know I am."

Aang finished his little speech to Katara's mom by placing a flower from their basket on her grave. At this point Katara was full on sobbing, not out of sadness but out of joy and love. She knew that Aang loved her but what he said today really warmed her heart. As a little girl she dreamt about her future love but she could've never expected anything remotely close to this.

As Katara cried on his shoulder Aang helped her up from the ground and walked a few feet away to the bottom of a hill. It overlooked the village in the most mesmerizing way. The light shined on the buildings in a way that made the snow glisten like the moon does against the ocean.

After a few minutes of standing in silence Katara took a deep breath to calm her nerves. "Thank you for coming with me today and thank you for everything that you said. It was beautiful. I don't know how I got so lucky." she truthfully confessed.

Relieved that she had calmed down Aang pulled the young girl into a hug which allowed her to rest her head on his chest. They stayed like this for a couple minutes just breathing in each other's calming scent.

Katara then pulled away and said "I'm sorry for breaking down like this. I'm just glad that someone understands how important my relationship was with my mom."

"I do understand and selfishly I wish I would've had the chance to have even a sliver of the bond that you two shared." Aang said as he thought about what his parents would've been like.

Katara scrunched her eyebrows in confusion. "I thought you didn't have parents though."

Aang lightly chuckled at this before saying "of course I had parents or else I wouldn't be here."

Katara, feeling slightly embarrassed, moved her eyes toward her feet avoiding his gaze.

"When I was little Gyatso told me stories about what my parents were like. Apparently he was close personal friends with my dad growing up which is why they trusted Gyatso to look after me."

Katara was shocked that she'd never heard this from Aang before. She just assumed that he knew nothing about his parents due to his culture. Katara returned her eyes to his hoping he would continue talking about his parents.

Aang looked straight forward toward the village in front of them as he continued. "As a little kid I had hoped I would get a chance to meet them one day. I didn't want to intrude in their lives, I was just curious as to what they looked like or how they acted. Obviously I never got a chance to meet them..." Aang drifted off thinking about how all the air benders were gone.

Suddenly saddened by this realization as well Katara grabbed Aang's hand and squeezed it as a sign of sympathy. "They would've been proud of you too Aang. I don't know who wouldn't be based off everything you have accomplished already as a thirteen year old."

"Thank you Katara." Aang said with a smile.

Realizing how late it was Katara said "We should probably head back soon. It gets pretty cold here at night without the sun."

Aang nodded his head in agreement and they walked back toward Appa. They took a short flight back to the house and Aang made sure Appa was fed and tucked in for the night.

"Thanks buddy! You did good today!" he said while scratching Appa's head.

Aang then looked up to see Katara walking toward the house. Right before she got to the door he yelled "Katara, wait!"

She spun around in confusion expecting him to still be near Appa but to her surprise he was already in front of her. She assumed he used his air bending to run over to her faster.

"What is it Aang?" asked the young water bender.

"I never got to thank you for an amazing night. I know it was filled with tears but I'm glad we got to share this experience." Aang said while holding Katara's hand in his.

Instead of responding verbally, Katara thanked him back by wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him in for a kiss. Aang leaned into the kiss and put his hands around her waist. The two stayed their in each other's embrace just showing each other how much they meant to one another.

The kiss would've gone on for a little while longer if Sokka didn't open the door right in front of them and yell "OOGIES! GET A ROOM YOU TWO!"

Realizing what he implied by that he quickly added "actually don't get a room. You both are too young for that. Aang I swear if you try anything I'll make sure you -"

"Sokka, do you have to ruin everything?" Katara said as she cut off her brother who rudely interrupted them.

The young couple then looked at each other and bursted out into laughter. Aang took Katara's hand and lead her in to the house as she pushed Sokka out of the way.
