They're creepy and they're cooky

A guest asked for a oneshot of Snowing getting Neal ready for trick-or-treating and Emma just watches, a little sad. It takes a while to get it out of her, but eventually she admits that she didn't really go trick-or-treating as a kid. Nor did she get to dress up. Snow helps her throw together a quick costume and she goes with her family trick or treating with Neal.

Fiona2832: I'm afraid I've already written Emma having to teach her parents sign language.

SeaweedBrain: I've done things like that before. Also, if I'm honest, I don't think I could make it realistic. Sorry.

"He just looks so funny." Snow sniggered, snapping yet more pictures of her little boy. Neal was only a year old, but still, they wanted the chance to show him off round the town (as well as gain some candy for themselves) so they took the decision to take him trick-or-treating. Rather than stand with him looking like a pair of lemons, Snow and Charming took the decision to dress up themselves. Not only that, but the three would share family costumes. Charming and Snow would be Gomez and Morticia Addams. Neal, since he was still pretty much bald, would be Uncle Fester. Snow and Charming had only made one error in their Halloween planning. They had assumed that dressing up and going door to door begging for sweets would be Emma's idea of Hell, so they had left her out of the planning. Particularly since Henry had decided he was too old for trick-or-treating and had opted for a classmate's party instead. How wrong they were.

Snow began to figure something was up the morning of Hallween. Emma seemed quiet. She wasn't really taking part in any of the Halloween fun. Both her parents kept asking her if she was alright. She kept assuring him that she was, that she was just tired, but neither parent believed her. They kept pressing her, and eventually, Emma gave in and told the truth.

"Look, Halloween was never full of fun for me as a kid." Emma snapped. "I never went trick-or-treating. I didn't have fancy dress. I didn't get loads of candy. If I did, it all went to the older kids in the group home, or worse, the adults I was with." Emma told them bitterly. "I'm happy for little bro, but just…" Emma stopped, not ready to fully express he emotions on the matter. But she didn't have to. Snow and Charming both understood. Emma had wanted all the Halloween fun as a child. She was glad her brother could get it now, but that didn't take away the pain that she hadn't been able to get it. She was too old for it now though…right? Wrong. As far as her parents were concerned anyway. Sure, she wasn't exactly going to be able to participate in the trick-or-treating like Neal. However, much like her parents, that didn't stop her dressing up and accompanying him.

"Come on. I've got a black sweater and a white shirt with a collar." Snow explained. "How do you feel about pigtails?"

"Huh?" Emma asked as her mom pulled her off the couch and started dragging her up the stairs.

"Morticia isn't the only female Addams family member. We're not leaving you in here alone all night. You can come out with us as Wednesday. That way you'll fit right in. It'll only take a few minutes to knock up." Snow explained briefly. Emma smiled, touched by both her parents' dedication to make her feel involved as soon as they realised how detached she had been feeling.

So, just under half an hour later, Emma was out with her parents and brother, going round the neighbours' homes happy as anyone has ever seen the Addams family look before.
