A few days had passed since the gaang's departure from the South Pole. It was a little emotional for Katara to be leaving her family again but lucky she had the support of her friends to help her feel better.

Currently they were all flying on Appa over the ocean. The sun could be seen just above the horizon, indicating that it would be setting soon. Aang realized this and figured that they would need somewhere to camp for the night.

"Sokka, is there anywhere nearby that we could rest for the night?" Aang asked the boy as he took out his map.

After finding their location on the map Sokka saw that Kyoshi Island was not too far from where they were.

"Kyoshi Island is close. We could stop there for the night. I'm sure Suki would approve." said Sokka as he turned to his girlfriend whose eyes lit up at the mention of going to her village.

"Kyoshi it is!" Aang cheered as he steered Appa in the direction Sokka told him to.

Suki bounced with excitement as she said "I can't wait for you all to meet my mother. Last time you were here you guys left before meeting her."

Sokka was very excited to finally meet her mom but would also be lying if he said he wasn't a tiny bit nervous. He hoped he would make a good impression to her so she would trust him with her daughter.

As they arrived on the island Appa struggled to find a clear place to land due to the growing crowd below them. They saw Appa from a mile away and immediately knew that the avatar was stopping.

Eventually Aang landed Appa on top of a hill close by and everyone jumped off. As soon as his feet touched the ground Aang heard screaming. He turned around in a panic expecting to see someone hurt but to his surprise he was swarmed with young girls.

"Aangie, we missed you!" said Koko, the village girl while grabbing onto his arm. The other girls agreed and playfully giggled at the young avatar.

Toph noticed how crazy their heartbeats were going and decided to mess with Katara. "Looks like you got some competition there Sweetness."

Katara looked over at the group of desperate girls and rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Great, here we go again." she mumbled in reference to their last time on Kyoshi.

"This sorta thing happens a lot?" Toph asked.

"Yeah, every time we come here they swarm him like a bunch of buzzard-wasps." Katara responded while crossing her arms.

"Haha looks like you're jealous." teased Toph.

Katara scoffed and protested "I am not jealous!"

Sensing her lie, Toph smirked and said "I can tell you're lying."

Storming off in annoyance Katara grabbed her bag off of Appa and walked toward Aang. After forcing her way through the crowd of girls she grabbed Aang by the arm and slightly glared at the girls.

"Oh hey Katara!" Aang exclaimed happy to see her. "You remember the girls, right?"

Wanting to leave from their presence, Katara said "yeah I remember but sadly we have to go now. Goodbye!" She then pushed her and Aang's way through the crowd toward the rest of the group who were sitting against a bench nearby.

"That was nice catching up with them." Aang said cluelessly.

"Of course you would say that." exclaimed Katara with a hint of annoyance in her voice.

Aang picked up on this and asked "what do you mean?"

"You know what I'm talking about Aang. Last time we were here those girls were all over you and you seemed to enjoy it."

Aang then smirked at her and said "you are jealous! I knew it! Last time you denied it but it's so obvious that you are."

Katara glared at him. "I am not jealous! Would everyone stop saying that." At this point everyone around them is looking at them due to Katara raising her voice. In embarrassment she pulled Aang aside to continue the conversation.

"I'm not jealous I'm just worried that you'll let their attention get to your head again." Katara said this with so much uncertainty that even Aang picked up on it.

Aang grabbed Katara's hand in his, forcing her to look up into his eyes. "Sweetie, they don't mean anything to me. You're the only person I love. Don't let them get to you, okay?" he said as he squeezed her hand for reassurance.

Katara smiled at his cheesiness but quickly nodded. She knew that Aang was a sweet guy and probably won't tell those girls to leave him alone, but she knew that he was telling the truth about her being the only girl for him.

"Okay" Katara said with a smile forming on her face. She leaned in to peck his cheek before saying "we should probably meet up with the others. I know that Suki is eager for us to meet her mom."

The two walked over to the group to hear Toph exclaim "finally! The two lovebirds decided to show up. Can we go now?"

They all laughed in response to Toph's bluntness. Suki then guided them to her house. "My mom is going to love you guys. I can't wait to tell her about all our adventures together." she excitedly told the group.

They then approached a small, wooden building with a sign on the door that said "welcome". From the outside, the house looked very comfortable and inviting. Sokka wasn't shocked to see that this was her home, it suited her in a loving, calming sort of way.

Suki stepped forward to see the door unlocked and slightly opened. She didn't think anything of it because her mom often left the door unlocked during the day. Misumi, Suki's mother, would often leave her door open due to the sense of community the villagers shared with one another.

As she stepped into the dark house she called out for her mother. "Mom? I'm home! I know you didn't expect me but we needed a place to stay for the night and I wanted to come see you."

A few seconds go by without a response which caused Suki to call out again. "Mom, are you home?" After not getting a response for a second time she figured her mom was not home. "Guess she's not here yet. You guys are welcomed to sit down and wait until she gets here." Suki suggested to the group motioning them toward the sitting area.

Toph flopped onto the closest couch and stretched out as far as she could. "Thank the spirits, I'm tired of standing around doing nothing."

Sokka then walked over to the couch and pushed Toph over so he could sit as well. The group quietly sat down taking a moment to settle in.

Suki suddenly got an urge to look around the house so she got up and walked up the stairs. First she went to her room which seemed untouched to her. The bed was made just the way she did before she left. Her fans from her first training session still hanging on the wall. She smiled as remembered all the happy memories that happened in this room.

Just as she was about to leave Sokka knocked on the open bedroom door and said "so this is where you grew up?" He said this in a tone that was not necessarily asking a question but more of a statement.

Suki smiled and turned to him as he walked closer to him. "there's so many memories in here from when I was younger. If I'm being honest I almost forgot about them during my time away." Suki said with a hint of sadness present in her voice.

Sokka sensed that Suki was a little overwhelmed with these emotions and suggested that she showed him the rest of the house. She gladly accepted and showed him the rest of the rooms upstairs.

As they came to the finally door at the end of the hall Suki said "and here's my mom's room. I always loved hanging out with her in here as a little girl."

Upon entering the room Suki was surprised to see someone already in there. She jumped back in surprise but upon looking at the figure closer she discovered that she knew exactly who the stranger was.

"What are you doing here and where's mom?" Suki asked the man standing in front of her. She held her head high in hopes of intimidating him.

The man chuckled slightly before responding with "my dear Suki, you haven't seen me in years and that's how you greet me?"

Sokka grabbed onto Suki's arm and defensively shouted "You have no right to treat her the way you have all these years!"

Meanwhile, Aang, Katara, and Toph heard the commotion upstairs and agreed to check on them. They turned the corner and were surprised to see a man that was definitely not in the house when they entered standing there.

"Suki, who is this?" Aang asked trying to determine if there was any danger present.

Without turning around to meet his eyes, Suki responded to Aang while glaring at the man in front of her. "my father."

After reluctantly agreeing to sit down and talk, Suki and the rest of the gaang sat in the living room ready to ask questions to her father. Aang was the first one to speak up after a few minutes.

"So, Mr... uh... Suki's father? I- "

"Please call me Hui, and may I just say what an honor it is to meet you young avatar." Hui said while respectfully bowing to Aang. "I never would've imagined my daughter helping the avatar. I'm so proud."

Suki scoffed in disgust at this while rolling her eyes. "What would you even know about being proud towards your daughter when you've left her for her whole life!" At this point Suki was so enraged that he was one wrong statement away from getting his ass kicked.

"Thank you, Hui. It's nice to meet you too." Aang said while smiling hoping to cut some of the tension present at that time. "It is my understanding that you don't live in this village anymore, let alone in this house, so what are you doing here?" Aang knew how uncomfortable Suki was so he wanted to fix the situation as quickly as possible.

Hui smiled and looked to Suki. "I wanted to come visitor my lovely daughter and I figured she was still living here."

Without thinking Suki shouted out "bullshit! You've never cared about me so what do you really want?"

Katara's eyes widened in shock at her vocabulary and quickly reprimanded her. "Suki, watch your language!"

Toph snickered at the exchange and wanted to compliment Suki on her comment but decided to keep quiet.

Suki gave Katara a subtle, embarrassed smile before apologizing. She continued to interrogate her father by asking him the one question that had been bothering her since she arrived on the island. "Where is mom? What did you do with her?"

Hui took a step towards Suki to try hold her hand but she pulled away before he could grab it. "Honey, she has been missing since I got here three days ago. I figured she was off somewhere with you which is why I stayed here while I waited for you two to return."

Suki looked deep into his eyes. She had a strong feeling that he was lying, but with no proof it was hard to accuse him of doing something. She figured she would have to investigate on her own. Dragging the rest of her friends into this mess was not something she wanted to do. The only person she would feel comfortable including would be Sokka, but like with the rest of her friends she couldn't risk him getting hurt. Suki concluded that she would have to do some snooping around tonight alone if she wanted to find some answers.

"Whatever" Suki mumbled as she dashed out the of the house. Sokka ran after her while everyone else stayed there in silence processing everything that just happened.

Hui turned toward those that were left and said "I apologize for troubling you. I shall be on my way now."

Aang quickly stood up and asked "wait, before you go do you have any idea where Suki's mom could be?"

Hui shook his head in defeat. "I haven't spoken to her in years. When we were still together she would often take week long adventures out to explore the outdoors. She was a very adventurous woman."

Aang thanked him for his time as the rest of them wished him safe travels. Shortly after he left Sokka returned with Suki who seemed to be in a better mood. They all sat down to enjoy dinner together before retreating to their rooms for the night.

Just as she was about to head in for the night Katara heard footsteps outside of her window. She quickly looked out to see Suki sneaking away from the house. Katara opened the window to question where the young warrior was going this late at night.

"Suki, is that you?" Katara whispered just loud enough for her to hear.

Reluctantly Suki turned around in defeat that she was caught.

Katara scrunched her eyebrows together in confusion before asking her "where are you going? It's late, shouldn't you be in bed?"

Suki rushed over to the window. "I'm going to find out any information I can on where my mom is. Somethings not adding up and I need to get to the bottom of it before she gets hurt."

"Are you sure you're not overreacting? Hui said she's probably on one of those trips she always takes." Katara said in hopes of reassuring her.

Suki shook her head. "She hasn't gone on one of those since I was a little girl." She sighed and looked down toward the ground sadly. "I have this gut feeling she's in trouble and I have to help her Katara. If I don't no one will."

Katara thought about what she would do if she was in Suki's situation. Everyday she thinks about how she wished she could've saved her mother from the fire nation, but she was so young and helpless at the time that there wasn't much she could've done. If she knew what she knows now she would've done everything in her power to save her regardless if that meant endangering herself. This made Katara realized that this is exactly how Suki felt right now.

Katara reached her hand to Suki's shoulder in support. "I'm coming with you. You could always use the extra help." Before Suki could protest she tiptoed out of the house in silence and met her outside.

As the two made their way through the village they were unsure of what they were suppose to be looking for. Katara trusted Suki to spot if it looked like anything suspicious had happened, but to her disappointment nothing caught her attention.

After spending two hours searching the village the two decided to call it a night. They knew that they needed to get some rest because they were set to leave early in the morning.

As they passed by the other houses Suki thanked Katara for helping her, even though it felt like a total waste of time.

"There's no need to thank me. I know how you feel. You just want to protect everyone you love. Sometimes I wish I could've done the same thing." Katara started to tear up but stopped herself before she got out of control.

Katara stopped walking and hugged Suki before saying "don't worry, we're going to find her before we leave. I'm sure she'll return soon."

Suki pulled away and smiled lightly. "Thank you Katara. It's nice to know that I'll alway have a sister who I can count on."

Katara opened her mouth to respond but was caught off guard by a noise coming from behind the trees nearby. The two girls looked at each other before silently agreeing to go see what made the noise.

As they walked closer to the trees they both were shot with something in the leg. Katara looked down in pain and realized that there was some sort of dart stuck in their legs. Her hand flew to her waist where her water skin was normally but remembered that she forgot to grab it before she left.

Knowing that she would have to fight without her bending she positioned herself in a fighting stance, ready for an attack. As she looked over towards Suki she expected to see her taking a fighting stance as well but was surprised to see her laying on the ground, unconscious.

"Suki!" Katara shouted while rushing towards her. She must've moved too fast because as soon as she reached Suki she too started to feel weak like she might pass out. Feeling too weak to get up, she started to give in to the overwhelming feeling of sleep.

With her eyes slightly open she tried to shout for help but nothing but a whisper came out. "Aang, please help..." Katara forced out before falling unconscious.

As soon as the two girls were out cold, two shadows appeared from behind the trees to grab them.

"You girls should've stayed home where it's safe. It's a shame that there's no one here to save you!" said one of them while dragging the girls away.
