Chapter 6: The Trap
Hey guys! I just wanted to say thank you all so much for reading and reviewing, it helps me a lot to hear that I'm doing well with these chapters. Hope you're all staying safe and God be with you. Have a great day!
Quick responses to reviews:
TheRaccoon13: The funny thing is, I haven't even seen Dead Chest. I honestly just thought that it would be a good idea. I actually got confused when you mentioned the movie in your review and had to look it up, but I think it's funny that I had a similar idea to what they had in a movie like that.
Stegz: I agree, I can never get enough of that dance scene.
EngeHWSW: Yeah I know, the title's kind of cheesy, but it's based off of a line from a fanfic called "Bad People" by Lyralocke. If you haven't read it yet, you should check it out. It's a good story.
Disclaimer: I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Aang and Katara could only stand there, frozen in place as they weren't sure what to do. Of course, their first instinct was to flee, but judging by the size of the monster in front of them, they doubted that they would be able to get away before it got them.
"Um… Aang?" Katara's voice almost squeaked out in surprise at seeing the incredibly large sea monster in front of them.
"Yeah, Katara?" his own nerve-filled voice came back to her as he found himself unable to tear his eyes away from the creature he knew could easily end their lives in seconds.
"How do we get out of this without that thing destroying either of the ships?"
Aang was silent for a moment, pondering this question himself as he looked at it closely, hoping to find some kind of weakness they could exploit to get away from it.
But, before either of them could do anything, the kraken appeared to lose its patience and let out an unearthly screech, using two of its tentacles to try to grab them. Seeing this, the two shared a nod and ran in opposite directions, making the tentacles follow them as they ran off the ship. Aang used some graceful airbending to help him run across the water while Katara used her waterbending to go the other way.
The kraken didn't seem to figure their plan, as it still chased them with its tentacles as they continued running circles around him. Before very long, the tentacles had wrapped themselves around their owner, making it screech loudly as it finally saw what it had done.
"Do you think that'll work?" Katara asked as she jumped back up onto the ship, her voice ragged from almost getting hit by the tentacle that had been chasing her.
"I hope so," Aang replied as he observed the large and tangled up beast, hoping that their little trick would be enough to keep it at bay long enough for them to get the riches and run.
Unfortunately for them, however, the kraken finally seemed to figure out what was wrong and began unravelling its woven tentacles, screeching at them once again as it regained its freedom. "Well, that answers that," Katara sighed in disappointment before looking over to her ship and crew.
"Firebenders!" she yelled out in her loudest voice so that they could hear her. "Keep the beast busy while we collect the loot!"
"Yes, Captain!" they called from the other ship before lining up and sending a strong blast of fire towards the unsuspecting creature. Another screech of surprise and pain erupted from its mouth from this attack, and its full attention was turned to the other ship.
Katara and Aang were both a bit worried about their crewmates, but after seeing the firebenders continue to keep the beast at bay with continuous fire blasts, they decided that the best thing they could do was get the treasure and get out of there.
"Come on, Aang! The sooner we get what we came for, the sooner we can get away from this thing," she called over her shoulder as she started running back to the captain's quarters. Aang did as he was told and followed her back into the room, the both of them becoming amazed once again as they saw all of the beautiful treasure that lay around them.
"How are we going to get all of this back to the ship?" Aang couldn't help but wonder aloud.
Katara frowned thoughtfully, knowing that it was indeed the most important question of the day. After a few moments of thought, a lightbulb seemed to go off in her head as she turned to look at her Quartermaster. "We're both waterbenders, so let's make an ice raft and load everything on here. Once we get back to the ship, we'll load it and get going."
Thinking this over for a few moments, he decided that she was right and nodded his agreement. "Alright, but what about the sea beast? How are we going to get that thing off our tail?"
"Oh yeah, I hadn't really thought about that," she admitted sheepishly as she thought it over again. But, hearing the sounds of fire blasting and the creature's wails of pain, she couldn't really think of anything on the spot. "We don't have enough time to just sit here. We'll figure out what to do once we've gotten the treasure on the ship."
"Aye, you're right," Aang nodded his agreement. "Let's get started."
"You heard the captain!" Toph's voice barked as she lined up the firebenders. "Aim and fire!"
The firebenders did as they were told and worked together to send a large blast at the kraken, making it wail quite loudly as the fire singed its skin. "It doesn't like fire!" Sokka noted with a laugh.
"Well, then keep shooting flames at it!" Toph ordered, watching as the firebenders sent another blast of flames at the enormous creature. "Don't stop, firebenders! If we can't keep this thing pacified before they get back, we'll either sink with our ship or end up in this beast's gullet!"
Toph and Sokka watched as the firebenders continued to keep the kraken at bay, being both amazed and fearful as they saw it get angrier and angrier. "Come on, Katara," Sokka muttered to himself as he saw that the Kraken was only getting angrier from these attacks. "Any day now."
"Oh relax, Snoozles," Toph rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. "The firebenders have this under control."
"Yeah, but for how long?" was his only reply as he continued to watch the creature get repeatedly burned. Had it been smaller, he imagined that it would have burned to a crisp by now, but it was far too big for it to be that easy. "Come on, Katara."
With some good teamwork, the two had managed to get everything from the captain's cabin onto a makeshift ice raft that they had created together. Normally, Katara would try to take everything the ship had, but she supposed that it was fair to say that this wasn't a normal situation. Because of this, she had decided to just leave what was in the hold. The treasure they had loaded onto the ice raft could not have been beaten by anything that was put in the cargo hold.
Once they had everything secured in ice and were satisfied that it wouldn't slip off into the water, they worked together to get the ice raft moving. Aang, despite having next to no experience in waterbending, handled himself just fine as he moved the water. After all, waterbending wasn't too different from airbending. In fact, they were quite similar now that he thought about it.
Shaking his head at himself for getting lost in his thoughts, he refocused on the task at hand and started moving the raft faster. The sooner they got the treasure and themselves onto their ship, the sooner they could leave this beast and hopefully never have to deal with it again.
Though he had to say, he was impressed with how the firebenders were keeping the beast at bay. It must have taken a lot of firepower to keep that thing from destroying their ship. Still though, he knew that they wouldn't be able to keep it up forever.
With renewed determination to make sure they could get out of there, he picked up his waterbending and the two finally reached the ship. Aang could only watch in amazement as his captain reached down and brought her arms upward, bringing the ice raft level with the top deck where Sokka and Toph were waiting.
"Sokka, Toph! Help Aang get the treasure on board!" she ordered as she held the raft in place, knowing that letting go would put them back at sea level.
The two nodded and waited as Aang handed them the treasure, though he noticed that Toph and Sokka had excited smiles on their faces from seeing what they had acquired from the enemy ship. There was a problem with this, however. Since it was only Aang who was handing over the treasure, it took more time for him to do it, and the kraken finally decided that it had more than enough of the firebenders' constant barrages.
Letting out another unearthly screech as Aang hiked up the last chest and handed it over to Sokka, the creature reached a tentacle down and knocked the firebenders out of the way, taking a sniff with its beak to find the closest prey for it to devour as its gaze shifted on the young captain who was still trying to hold up the ice raft.
Aang, who had finally jumped to the other side of the railing of the ship, turned back to Katara. "Come on, Captain! I'll hold it for you!"Katara nodded and let go of the water as Aang took a hold of it, making her way over to the railing of the ship when she was stopped in her tracks by the Kraken's tentacle. A shriek of surprise sounded from her as the beast lifted her up in the air, bringing the struggling waterbender to its mouth.
Panic flared in Aang's eyes as he saw it open its mouth, ready to devour the young woman he had feelings for. "NO!" his voice roared in fear, his eyes closing for a moment before they opened again, his pupils now completely white as he glared at the enormous creature.
"You will not take her!" his multi-layered voice shouted to the beast as he jumped over the railing and into the water, making the crew gasp as he resurfaced a few moments later with a large whirlpool holding him up high in the air to match the beast. Just as the kraken was about to put her in its mouth, Aang summoned the water around him and sliced at the beast, making it wail in pain as the tentacle holding Katara separated from its body and started falling to the water below.
Summoning a strong wave behind him, Aang used all of his strength to catch her as she fell, managing to catch her just before she hit the water. Once he was sure that she was okay, he used the water cyclone that was carrying him to bring her back to the ship where he put her down. Katara could only blink in surprise as all this happened. Not only had she been sure that she was kraken chow, but she had not expected Aang to light up like he was at the moment. She wasn't sure what to think of it. Though she supposed it likely had something to do with him being the Avatar.
Once Aang was sure that she was okay, the Avatar turned back to the creature who had almost eaten the girl he cared for and frowned, his eyes seething with anger that it had almost hurt her. The beast was none too happy, either, and had decided to try to attack him while he was in the air.
Each tentacle that came at him was sliced off, making the beast wail in agony as he moved closer to it and prepared to take his life. But, as he was about to deal the final blow, he remembered who he was and managed to break himself out of his fury. Instead, he told the creature. "Leave us, and do not attack me or my crew ever again."
He wasn't sure if the creature would understand or not, but sure enough the kraken quickly disappeared beneath the waters with no trace that it had ever been there other than the abandoned ship with no masts and the half eaten crew around it.
Once he was sure that everything had settled down, he finally allowed himself to calm down and used the water cyclone to bring him back over to the ship, letting it deposit him on the top deck before the water fell back into the sea.
As his eyes finally lost their glow, he felt a great wave of exhaustion come over him and he nearly collapsed, making Katara snap out of her shock and reach forward to catch him before he could hit the ground.
"Aang, are you okay?" she asked worriedly, watching as he groaned a little before slowly fluttering his eyes open.
"Katara?" his clearly exhausted voice sounded confused as well. "What happened?"
Feeling quite relieved that he was alright, she gave him a warm smile as she stroked his head softly. "I don't know, exactly. One minute I was about to be eaten by the Kraken, and the next you were saving me."
"His eyes were white!" Sokka supplied in utter surprise, looking as if someone had just smacked him in the face. "It looked like he was… possessed or something!"
"And you were waterbending," Katara recalled as she remembered him catching her as she had fallen. "That was some of the most amazing waterbending I've ever seen."
"Really?" Aang asked with a bit of a yawn, feeling his energy at an all time low at the moment. "I don't remember anything."
At this, everyone looked him at him in complete disbelief. "You don't remember anything?" came Toph's quite surprised question.
Thinking back to it, he shook his head as he looked back up to them. "The last thing I remember is seeing Katara almost-" He couldn't finish his sentence. Just the thought of her almost being eaten brought him a great amount of pain. Shaking this off, he shrugged a little as he looked away. "I don't know what happened, but I'm glad that you're okay, Katara."
Katara couldn't help but smile warmly down at him. "You saved my life, Aang. Even if we don't know how, you're the reason that I'm still here." Leaning down, she placed a soft, warm kiss on his cheek that made him flush red, desperately hoping that she wouldn't notice as she finally pulled away. "Thank you for saving me."
Chuckling a bit nervously while his face felt as if it was on fire, he forced himself to calm down and smiled back at her. "No problem, Katara." The two couldn't help but continue to stare at each other, their eyes locked and their hearts beating rapidly as they sat there in silence.
Unfortunately for them, this didn't last long, as Sokka was already getting bored and frankly did not care for the mushy scene that was happening in front of him. "Well, now that we're all okay," he spoke up as he cracked his knuckles. "We should probably get as far away from this place as possible in case the big guy decides to come back."
Although Katara was quite comfortable where she was, she knew that he was right and reluctantly nodded her agreement. "Aye. Sokka's right. Can you walk?" she asked Aang gently.
"Aye, I believe I can," Aang nodded before reluctantly letting his head up from her lap and standing up, still feeling quite tired, but he tried his best not to show that.
He did not succeed in his efforts, as Katara could see clearly that he was still tired. "Aang, go below deck and get some rest."
"But-"
"Please, Aang," she interrupted him as she gently cupped his cheek with her hand, staring into his eyes as she did so. "For me."
After a few more moments of wanting to argue, but knowing that he could never deny her anything, he reluctantly nodded his agreement and made his way below deck, not noticing as Katara watched him go with worry clear on her face.
"Wow," Toph chuckled as she leaned against the railing behind her. "You really aren't trying to hide what you're feeling, are you?"
Rolling her eyes at her friend, she crossed her arms over her chest and looked out to the sea. "It's not as easy as you think it is, Toph. Especially when he's around you almost all day every day."
"Or maybe you're just too much of a softy to actually hide it," came Toph's smug reply.
Finding that she had had enough of her friend's teasing for the moment, Katara ignored her and went back to the wheel, calling for the sails so that they could get moving. They needed to get away from this place, and she wanted to make sure that Aang could sleep soundly until he felt better.
The next day, Aang awoke to the sounds of people talking, making him yawn as he sat up from his hammock and stretched. He certainly felt better since Katara had asked him to go get some rest, making him glad that he had agreed to it. Though he supposed that he probably would have agreed to anything that she asked of him. It didn't make any sense to him, as no one had ever made him feel this way, but he was almost certain that he would do anything for her.
And considering that he was apparently the most powerful bender in the world, she had a lot of power that was completely at her disposal.
Taking a long, deep breath of the salty sea air around him, he decided that it wouldn't do him any good to sit around and decided to get moving. Now getting up with ease, he made his way over to the Crew Mess and looked around, but there was no one there.
Feeling his stomach rumble as he looked upon the barrels of food, he decided that his search for his crewmates could wait until he had eaten something to satisfy the hunger in his gut. Walking over to his favorite barrel, he grabbed a moon peach and took a big bite, his stomach's cries of hunger already lessening as he swallowed it. After finishing the first one, he devoured the second one and ate one more, finally feeling his previously angry stomach become satisfied.
Now feeling better with a full stomach, he decided to go check above deck to see what his crewmates were up to. Making his way above deck, he looked around to see if his crewmates were there, but he could not see anyone.
Where had they gone? It was as if they had simply disappeared. Shaking his head at himself, he took a look at his surroundings and was surprised to find that they were anchored in a harbor. If they were anchored at land and they weren't on the ship, then that must have meant that they went to town.
He knew that Katara must have had a reason for coming to this place, and knowing that she might need help in whatever she was doing, the young airbender decided to see if he couldn't find them. Walking to the town he could see not far in front of him, he walked through the streets and did his best not to stand out too much while he searched for his crewmates. Fortunately for him, it didn't take long, as he found the only bar in the town and saw his captain sitting at a table with Sokka and Toph.
Seeing that he had finally found them, he walked into the building and made his way over to their table, taking the last open seat as Katara smiled upon seeing him.
"Good afternoon, Captain," he nodded to her as he took a look around the establishment.
A puzzled look overcame the young waterbender's face. "It's not afternoon, Aang. It's morning."
The poor airbender's eyes widened to the size of plates. "What?!" he nearly choked out in surprise, making Katara laugh as she put a hand on his to calm him down.
"You were really tired yesterday, and I wanted to make sure that you got enough rest, so I let you sleep through the night," she informed him with a laugh as she enjoyed the completely surprised look on his face.
It took him a few moments to register that he had really slept for that long, but after a few more moments of just blinking in surprise, he forced himself to snap out of it. "Well, I guess that explains why I feel rested," he chuckled, making her laugh as she smiled at him.
"Well, good. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better."
"So, what's the plan for today, Captain? Why are we here?" Aang decided to ask as he looked around the bar, seeing some of his fellow crewmates at other tables.
Katara was silent for a moment, wondering how to explain this in the best way possible. "Well… It's kind of complicated, but I'll give you the simple version of it." Pointing to two people sitting at the counter of the bar, she then explained. "Over there is one of our targets. Or, at least the captain of one of our targets," she corrected herself as she realized her mistake.
A confused look crossed onto Aang's handsome features. "Okay. If the captain's here, why not just end him now?" Not that he would ever condone killing, but he knew that Katara was a woman on a mission, and wouldn't begrudge her that.
"That's what I said!" Toph scoffed at her friend who simply rolled her eyes before looking back to Aang.
"If we kill him now, it might spook his crew before we can get a chance to find them," she explained with a bit of a glare at Toph. "I already explained this to Toph, but she just doesn't seem to get it." Taking a deep breath to cool her head, she decided to just keep going. "Anyway, instead of killing him and possibly scaring off his crew, I thought of something else that would draw them all out in the open."
As she finished this, she turned to point towards the man on the right who appeared to be holding a scroll of sorts. "That man right there is a known black market dealer in these parts. In exchange for some gold, he agreed to help us out." As she finished the last word, the man on the left slid some gold to the man on the right which he took and shoved in his pocket before sliding the scroll over.
"And I'm guessing it has something to do with that scroll?" Aang asked with a raised brow at his captain.
She nodded and watched as the pirate captain put the scroll in his back pocket. "Aye. That scroll is a fake treasure map; one that I made. Thanks to our black market friend, he will go to the place that I chose and fall right into our trap."
Aang had to admit, he was quite impressed. He still wasn't happy that he would have to watch more people die, but he at least felt better knowing that he wouldn't have to kill them himself. "Wow, that's actually a good plan. You're a clever lass, you know that?"
Katara couldn't help but smile proudly at his praise as they looked at each other, but Sokka just sighed as he saw that they were about to have another one of their staring contests. Fortunately for him, however, their target finally paid for his drink and stood up, making his way out of the bar as everyone snapped to attention.
"Alright, everyone!" Katara called as she slammed a few gold coins on the table, despite the fact that none of them had gotten anything to drink. "Aang, you're with me. We're going to tail the captain so we know which ship is his." Aang nodded his agreement as she turned her attention to everyone else. "The rest of you go back to the ship and make sure you're ready to sail! We can't afford to waste any time!"
"Yes, Captain!" they all unanimously replied as they started making their way back to the ship, leaving Aang and Katara alone as they walked out of the bar. Looking for her target, she was relieved to see that he hadn't gotten very far and motioned for Aang to follow.
The two pirates made sure to keep their distance from the captain, ensuring that there was no way he would know that he was being tailed. Aang had never really had to be stealthy like this before, but he seemed to handle it well as they followed their target back to his ship.
Before long, the two pirates found themselves back at the harbor and watched as the enemy captain walked the gangplank onto his ship, his crewmates welcoming him as he held up the scroll in his hand as he disappeared out of sight.
"Well, now we know which ship is his," Aang whispered as they hid behind a bush when a thought came to mind. "If you were worried about scaring off his crew, then why don't we just attack them now?" he couldn't help but ask.
"We could," she admitted as she started leading the way back to their ship. "And I know we will for other targets, but if there's a way for me to lead them into a trap without putting my crew or my ship in danger, then I'm going to do that."
Aang had to admit, he was impressed with the way she thought. It made perfect sense now to him for why she had decided to lure her target into a trap. "Aye, Captain. You're right. Lead the way, then." The two shared a smile before making their way back to the ship, just reaching the wheel in time as their target started heading out. "So, where is this trap that you've set up at?"
"A small island just north of here," she told him as she started following them. "It's remote and has nothing on it except trees. It'll be perfect for an ambush."
"Well, for it to be an ambush, we would have to get there first," he reminded her as they continued following the enemy ship. "And by the looks of it, they'll get there before we do."
A laugh escaped her lips as she started steering the ship to the left. "Oh, don't worry about that, Aang. I know a little shortcut that will get us there in no time."
Aang didn't look so certain, but she hadn't been wrong yet, and decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. "As you say, Captain." Katara, feeling happy that he trusted her enough to not say anything, used this energy to prove herself right so that he could see that she wouldn't let him down.
And she proved herself right, as the small pass they went through between some islands put them ahead of their target, and also served the purpose of hiding the ship from their target's sight.
"See? What did I tell you?" Katara teased as she let go of the wheel.
Aang just chuckled and gave her a smile. "Aye, you were right, Captain. I won't doubt you again." Smiling at each other for a few more moments, Aang seemed to realize he was staring again and cleared his throat. "So, how should we proceed?"
Clearing her throat as well, she shook off her racing heart and forced herself to focus on the task at hand. "Right. I've already told the crew what the plan is, but I guess you should know, too. The map I made warns that there's dangerous wildlife on it, so the captain is going to want to bring most of his crew with him onto land. To make sure that the crew who stay on the ship don't get away, I'm sending a small team of my most skilled crew to take care of them while we handle the rest."
Aang couldn't help but be a bit amazed from seeing how she seemed to have everything covered. She was truly the most amazing woman he had ever met. Not only was she incredibly beautiful, but she was smart, clever, and dangerous when need be. But, she also had a caring side to her that he found that he adored about her.
"Um… Aang?" a blush rose on Katara's cheeks as she noticed him staring again.
Realizing that he was staring again, he chuckled nervously and gave her a sheepish smile. "Sorry, Captain. I just got lost in my thoughts again." Katara couldn't help but be a little suspicious at this. It was exactly what he had said the last time she had caught him staring at her.
This made her hopeful to what it might mean, but she knew that she didn't have the time to try to figure out if her suspicions were correct or not. She could already see her target nearing the island, and she knew if she wanted her plan to succeed, they would need to get moving.
"Alright, everyone!" she called out as she turned to look at the crew that gathered around her. "To those of you who are coming with me, make sure you have your swords and start making your way to the ambush. Sokka, Toph!" Sokka and Toph made their way to the front of the crew. "You two are in charge of taking care of those who remain on their ship. Those who have been assigned for that task will follow them. Is everyone clear?"
"Yes, Captain!" they all replied in unison, making her smile.
"Good. Now, head out!" The crew did as they were told and started making their way off of the ship, but Katara made her way down to Sokka and Toph before they could get off. "Be careful, guys."
"Aye Aye, Captain Sugar Queen!" Toph sarcastically saluted her, making Sokka snicker as they finally walked off of the ship and onto the island.
Seeing that they would be just fine, she then turned to her Quartermaster. "Are you ready?"
"Whenever you are, Captain," he nodded his agreement, holding his hand out to her, taking her by surprise. He must have noticed the look of surprise on her face, and he smiled sheepishly as he decided to explain. "Sorry, I just figured it would be faster if I got us there. We can just walk if you want to-"
"No!" she interrupted him almost widely, taking him completely by surprise as his eyes widened. "I mean… Yeah, that's a good idea. It would be faster," she agreed hastily as she took his hand.
Deciding that it wouldn't do him any good to keep looking confused, he shrugged it off and decided to just enjoy having her close, pulling her to his side as she wrapped her arms around him. "Hold on tight, Captain!" With a quick crouch on the ground, he launched them into the air, high enough so that they could see the whole island. "Where are we headed, Captain?"
"Right there!" she pointed to a small alcove of trees that had a big "X" made out of rocks in the middle of it. Seeing this, he nodded and used the wind to bring them down to the spot with ease, managing to reach it just as their crew did.
Katara, although knowing that she should let go, was quite enjoying being this close to him and held onto him for another moment before reluctantly letting go, knowing that they had a task to finish. "Okay, now that we're here, we're going to hide in the brush surrounding this area. No one will be allowed to leave alive. Am I clear?"
"Yes, Captain!" the crew agreed as they started taking their places in the brush while Katara and Aang took their places behind the trees just north of the "X" on the ground. The trees were just wide enough to hide them until their trap was sprung.
Fortunately for them, they didn't have to wait very long, as the sounds of pirates talking signalled that their trap was almost ready to snare their enemies. Katara snuck her head around the tree to see if they had reached the "X", and upon seeing that they had, signalled for Aang to follow her as she stepped out from behind the tree.
"Well, what do we have here?" the enemy captain laughed as he pulled out his sword, the rest of his crew doing the same as he did so. "Other pirates trying to take my treasure?"
"There is no treasure," Katara nearly snarled at him, remembering that it was a person like him that had taken her father and mother from her. "That was just a ruse to get you here."
"Oh?" the captain asked with raised brow. "And what is it you want?"
"For you to die!" she growled before taking her sword out and pointing at him. "Attack!"
Their enemy became surprised as they heard the roar of the pirates behind them, only becoming aware of the ambush too late as most of them were cut down from the sneak attack. The remaining few tried to hold their own, but between being outnumbered and Katara and Aang's swift attacks, they stood no chance.
Aang still refused to kill these pirates himself, but he kept them distracted long enough until one of his fellow crewmates could finish the job for him. Before long, the only one who remained was the captain, his face cut due to a swipe of Katara's sword against his face as he lay on the ground with her sword pointing at his heart.
"What did we do to anger you, lass?" the pirate asked as he spit out some blood from his wound, knowing that his end was imminent and being curious as to why she had decided to attack his crew.
"You became a pirate," she told him simply before plunging her sword into his chest, making him gasp in pain for a few moments before his eyes dimmed and his body fell back to the ground, leaving Katara to shake her head in disgust at him before turning back to her crew.
"Good work, everyone!" she cheered, making them cheer as well as she wiped the blood off of her sword and put it back in its sheath.
Aang couldn't help but look at the dead bodies surrounding them with disgust. It was such a waste of life, and all because they decided that they wanted to be greedy and careless. He knew they deserved this fate, but he couldn't help but wish that they had just taken a different path.
Deciding to ignore his disgust, he then turned to his captain. "Well, at least it's over with. How do you think Sokka and Toph are doing?"
Before she could answer, the sound of an explosion interrupted her, making everybody's eyes widen as they looked to see smoke coming up from the direction of where the enemy ship was. Sharing a nod of agreement, the two pirates followed by their crewmates lead the way to the other side of the island, their worry skyrocketing as they saw that the enemy ship had been completely destroyed.
There was no way anyone could have survived that explosion, meaning that there was no way that Sokka and Toph could have survived.
Katara sunk to her knees as she felt tears gathering in her eyes, with Aang going down with her to wrap her in his arms as she cried into his shoulder, holding onto her tightly as she continued to let the tears fall as she wept for her friends.
