Yellow Eyed Devil

"Devil May Cry." Dante spoke after placing the phone up to his ear. His feet were propped up on the desk sitting before him, an empty pizza box lying near the edge.
However, the phone was hung up not long after being answered all before the Legendary Devil Hunter took one last bite of the pizza slice in his hand. "If I had as many customers as I did telemarketers calling, I'd be rich." he mumbled to himself before rising out of his seat.

The double doors leading into Devil May Cry opened up, allowing a dark man to walk inside. He wore a hat, one that was circular. He gazed to Dante. "Business is as slow as usual?"

"Morrison. You could say that." he replied, pressing one of the buttons on his jukebox. "Since you're here, I take it you've got a job for me?"
The music began to play throughout the office all while the devil in red went back towards his desk.

He nodded, approaching the hunter. "Got a client. Says that there's a few new people around her hometown that's been causing a mess lately."

Dante slowly crossed his arms, his blue eyes focusing on Morrison. "Considering I don't tell people's neighbors to quiet down, I take it there's more to this than that?"

"Mhm. Apparently, they've been collecting Devil Arms like the ones you have, and ever since they showed up, people have been seeing strange monsters roaming the town at night. It's scared people so badly that they won't even leave their homes at night. And the people who do... well, let's just say a few of them haven't been seen since."

Hearing this, Dante became reminded of the job he had taken with his brother a few months back, the one he had met Nero on. He couldn't deny there seemed to be similarities, but he also knew it was probably not connected to it since that wasn't enough information to draw conclusions on.
"Alright. I'll take it. Even if these people don't have anything to do with it, there's demons to kill. How much is this paying?"

"More than enough to keep your electricity on this month." Morrison replied, walking towards the door, pulling a piece of paper from his coat before setting it on the table. "This here's the name of the town, and where exactly you'll be going. I'll tell her to expect you soon enough."

Dante watched his old friend leave the building before getting back in his seat to prop his feet up once again. Ever since the incident with Vergil, Dante had been wondering what exactly his brother had been up to, how he was doing in Hell. It's been months since the incident, and while Dante was very much unhappy with Vergil, he is family. Family he had begun to grow closer to again.
His blue eyes gazed to the picture frame on his desk that held an image of his mother as he thought on it all.

After several moments lost in though, Dante rose from his seat before grabbing his red coat from the chair.
After sliding into his coat, he reached for the Rebellion his father had given him all those years ago.

Walking out of Devil May Cry, he glanced to the parked RV that had arrived mere seconds ago.

Stepping out was none other than the devil hunter's nephew. He began to approach his uncle.
"Job's done, Dante. Here's your cut of the profit." he said, reaching into his new coat, one that was black. Other than the new coat, Nero hadn't changed at all.

Lifting his hand and shaking his head, Dante responded. "Nah. Keep it, kid. Buy yourself something nice."
Approaching his motorcycle that was red much like his clothing, Dante further spoke. "Since you're here though, keep an eye on the shop for me in case any customers show up."

A slight look of surprise formed on Nero's face all before he gave a slight shrug, pulling his hand from his coat. "What? Got a job?"

Getting on his vehicle, Dante turned to the new hunter. "That's right. See you around, kid. I don't wanna be late for the party." he gave a wave befor revving the motorcycle, and finally speeding off.

The Son of Sparda had been on the road for many hours, finally arriving at the isolated town in broad daylight.
After getting off of his red motorcycle he'd parked in front of a house, he approached the front door as his blue eyes gazed around the town.

It was isolated for sure, but everything seemed calm. The houses were a god distance from one another, streets connecting everything, a few trees around, and plenty of grass.

After taking the scenery in, Dante knocked on the wooden door before waiting on his client to open.
His blue eyes focused on her once the door opened, a slight smile forming on his face.

Her hair was long, going beyond her back and as black as a raven. Her eyes were a red color, oddly enough, and her skin pale.
She wore a typical shirt that was a dark red color.
"You must be the infamous Dante." she said with a calm tone, a smile forming on her own face as her eyes focused on the Devil Hunter.

A whistle escaped the Son of Sparda "My kind of customer. Maybe I'll give you a discount."

A small chuckle escaped her. "That won't be necessary." her smile finally faded. "I'll pay you in full when the job's done. You know why you're here, right?"

Dropping his previous attitude, Dante shifted back into a more uncaring one. "Demons, and creepy people that moved in not long before the demons showed up. Right?"

She nodded. "That's right." her red eyes began to lower. "It would be a help to all of us if you could get rid of them, and keep any other's from returning. This place... hasn't been safe recently. Friends of mine have vanished after going out at night, and they haven't been seen since." a bit of fear became clear in her voice.

Dante listened to her words, his arms crossing. "What's your name, lady."

"Morrigan." was her reply, her eyes rising to meet his once again. "Please, help us. I don't know where else to turn to, and-"

"Who's here?" a man's voice suddenly asked as he approached, causing the woman to step aside.
His hair was white, reaching past his shoulders and brushed out of his face. He had yellow eyes that focused on the Devil Hunter at the door.

The Devil Hunter felt something about the two was off. There was a sensation from both these people before him that was unmistakable. He brushed it aside, however.
"Just a man who's got a job to do." he replied, turning his back on them both. "I'm going to find a pizza resturaunt and wait for nightfall. Don't come outside tonight. This party's gonna get wild." he stepped down the steps and left the house behind him.

"Everything except olives." Dante spoke to the waiter as he sat at a table, setting his guitar case down.
He soon reached for the newspaper in his coat, one he'd bough just before coming into the pizza resturaunt. He began to look through articles, searching for any that spoke of the incidents he'd been hearing about in the town.

Indeed, there were details of people missing and others claiming to see inhuman creatures lurking the streets at night.

He scanned the articles with his eyes, keeping an uncaring look in them before shutting the paper and laying it to the side of the table as his pizza was placed in the center of the table.

After taking one look at it, Dante spoke up. "Hey. There's olives on this."
However, there was only silence as a reply, leaving the Son of Sparda to mumble lowly. "Damn it."

Suddenly, a woman's hand came down, grabbing a slice of pizza. "Hope you don't mind."

The Devil Hunter looked up to her, lifting his hands, shrugging, and shaking his head. "All yours. I wanted no olives."

The woman sat down in the seat opposite of Dante's. She wore a white shirt that had a couple of the buttons on top undone, and she wore sunglasses.
It was none other than Lady. "So, you got this job too?"

"Sure did." he responded, leaning back in his seat. "Just waiting for nightfall at this point. You gonna try to steal this one from me?"

She leaned forward, one of her arms folding as she lifted the other, pizza in hand. "Depends. Are you ever going to get your debt to me paid off?"

Lifting a hand to his chin, Dante sighed. "Yeah, yeah. Doing my best, Lady. Not so easy when business is slow."

"I'm sure it's also not easy when you spend everything on pizza." she replied, taking a bite of the slice. "But, I guess I can let you have this job."

Dante then leaned forward to meet his ally. "Alright then. What have you found out about this all?"

"Well, the people aren't imagining things. There's definitely devils roaming the town at night."

"Okay then. Where'd they come from so suddenly?"

She shook her head, taking off the sunglasses to reveal her eyes, one being blue and the other red. "Your guess is as good as mine. I will say that I investigated these new people that moved in, and I found out something you might find interesting." she lowered the piece of pizza, leaning back. "From the way it looks, they came here from Fortuna awhile after that ordeal."

Hearing this, Dante let out a sigh. He was reminded of it all once more, the incident with Vergil and Abigale.
"From the Order?"

"Who knows? It's definitely possible though."

"Well, that's just great." Dante looked away, his hair covering his blue eyes. "Wait a minute. Who hired you?"

"Some kid named Reyan." she responded, finishing off the slice. "That's where things get stranger. Him and his mother came from Fortuna just like these people. Except they came here almost right after the incident, awhile before the rest did. The kid himself doesn't seem to have any clue of what's happening though. Either that, or he's a good liar."

The hunter in red listened to every word closely, a possibility already coming to mind once he heard this all.
He began to rise from his seat, grabbing his guitar case. "Well, it'll be night soon. I'd better get to it." he turned his back to the scene, giving a slight wave as he walked towards the door.

Lady gave a wave back, her eyes widening a bit. "Wait a second. Aren't you going to pay?"

"You ate it. You pay for it." he said before walking outside.

Night had fallen on the town, and now the Devil Hunter was on the job.

Dante had been walking the streets for awhile, his blue eyes scanning the area the entire time.

Now that everyone was inside, the Son of Sparda had unveiled what was within the guitar case.

His blade gifted to him by Sparda, Rebellion, and the twin semi-automatics Ebony and Ivory that were within their holsters inside the devil in red's coat.

Dante came to a stop, his eyes closing as he felt a sensation. He could hear it, feel it, and backflipped over it to easily avoid it.

A devil, one that was about the size of a man and dressed all in black had swung it's scythe at Dante, missing him just barely.
It's skin was white, twisted, it's eyes glowing red.

The Devil Hunter dodged at that exact moment on purpose all in an attempt to look flashy.
Immediately after landing on his feet, he got down onto one knee after spinning around and pulling his twin pistols out. Dant held them sideways, crossing his hands and pulling both triggers rapidly with a slight smile and filling it full of bullets that would cause the demon to fall apart and blow away in the wind.

The Son of Sparda swiftly rose up, pointing Ivory behind him without even looking and causing it to meet the face of another demon identical to the one that had just fallen.
With merely one shot between the red eyes, it went flying backwards into a horde of more demons like those two that crept towards Dante, letting out low roars as they gripped their scythes.

Dante kept his pistols in hand, lowering them as he watched the devils approach him. "Come on!" he spoke to them, smiling.

One of the devils raced forth, swinging it's scythe downward which was easily dodged by Dante, who was swift shoot it in the side with Ebony.

He jumped onto the devil once it hit the ground, using one leg to push off the ground with extreme strength and send the body of the demon forthm into the horde all while Dante stood on it, spinning as he rode through the waves of devils.
His guns were raised as he spun through, the triggers being pulled and bullets flying in every direction to kill a countless amount.

He kicked off the devil's corpse, letting it continue to fly through the army as he went high into the sky, turning upside down and spinning downward, opening fire to rain bullets down from above.
"Woo-hoo! Yeah!" he exclaimed before flipping, landing onto his feet and rising as his guns were placed back into their holsters.

Once the demon hunter realized that was the end of the horde, he turned back ahead. "Well, there are definitely demons here. Weak demons, but demons." he began to walk forward. "Guess I'm gonna have to start holding back if I want to have a good fight."

The Devil Hunter had explored the town for a long time now, slaying any devils he came across yet showed no sign of tiring anytime soon.
As time went on, he'd pinpointed where demonic activity was at it's highest.

He began to approach a mansion, one that was large yet old and gated. He sensed demonic power from deep within, a feeling that only grew with every step taken.
"Creepy old mansion full of cultists and devils. Typical. Eh... At least it keeps things simple." he spoke as he placed his hand on the gate, seeing it was locked. "Either worshipping demons pays a lot better better than hunting them, or I'm not getting paid enough." he mumbled, kicking the gate and sending it off the fence and flying forth before hitting the ground loudly.

Two men raced out the door, each dressed in white and gold with motorblades at their sides.

"You're trespassing!" one with hair of a dark brown color exclaimed.

"You're also destroying property!" the other with blonde hair spoke up.

Dante began to step towards the two, knowing full well of what they were as a smile formed on his face. "What's the matter? I thought I was an invited guest. Why the locked gate, guys?"

The first man began to widen his eyes. "Your the one who battled Argosax. Your Dante."

"In the flesh." he lifted his blade off his back, pointing it forth. "Come on. Let's see if your little boy band's improved any since our meeting in Fortuna."

The two ran forth with a speed that was unnatural, demonic, and they brought their blades that had been set ablaze with a mere twist of the handle down onto Dante.

The strikes were blocked, clashing against the Rebellion that Dante held with one hand and with no struggle at all. A smirk formed as he noticed the two foes struggling, putting all their strength into the clash.
With one push, Dante watched as both foes went backwards, yet quickly got to their feet.
In a blur of red, Dante raced to one of them as he was staggered, swinging his blade horizontally first, then vertically. He began to perform various slashes that tore into his opponent, before stabbing at him multiple times.

The second foe noticed his ally stood no chance and ran forth to strike at the devil hunter from behind, but it was to no avail as Dante kicked him in the face, sending hism flying back.

The swordmaster had stabbed Rebellion into the ground, using it as though it were a pole and spinning around on it to kick both members of the order. "Woo!" he yelled, all before leaping off, snatching the sword from the ground, and flying right at the first foe with unmatched speed all before piercing him one final time with his blade, finally killing him after the countless slashes.

After seeing this, the blonde man let out a yell and came at Dante once again with his blade burning once more, but missed the second he swung.

The trickster was already on the opposite side of his enemy as though he had warped, his hands lifting his blade as it began to burn with red, demonic power all before cleaving the second foe in two with one, mighty swing.

Dante took one hand off the Rebellion, swinging it down as if trying to put out the red flames on it, which worked, leaving the blade as it's typical color.
Without another word, the hunter placed his blade onto his back before walking through the mansions doors, leaving the corpses behind who's faces had now turned to those that were demonic and twisted.

Within the mansion was a room, one large that had walls decorated with a large variety of Devil Arms. Gauntlets, grieves, blades, guns. There were too many to count, yet some places where weapons once were, but had long been removed for some strange reason.

There stood a man in the middle of it all, a sigil in the middle of the floor that was a star, yet inverted with writings of a strange language within it.
The man was dressed in white, his skin dark and one eye with a monocle.
"So, you've come." he spoke, his hand being taken away from his papers before he set them down onto a table.

Dante kept Ebony and Ivory in hand, slowly approaching the Order's scientist. "You kept summoning and summoning, of course you got my attention." he halted, his eyes focusing on the man. "But you already knew that'd happen."

"B-b-b-but of course!" he stuttered at first, looking back to Dante. "Bringing you here was all part of my plan."

"Pretty stupid plan." Dante sighed, walking around the room. "So, i guess you are starting a museum. Pretty impressive collection you've got here. Must not have much of a life."

Gritting his teeth, the man looked back to his notes on the table. "This collection of D-D-D-D-Devil Arms are used in our summoning of demons. That was how we tried to get your attention, Dante. I thought that k-k-k-k-kid Nero would come here instead, and I'd have to kill him to get your attention."

Dante lifted his hands, turning back to the scientist. "Kill the kid? I dunno. The kid's tougher than you think. So, why did you want to drag me all the way out here? Hoping to add me to your museum? Sorry pal, but I bet you pay less than my current job. And that's saying a lot."

Becoming annoyed with Dante's jokes and comments, a large blade appeared in his hand, one that was black, scaly, yet with lines of red. "I plan on k-k-k-killing you, and t-t-t-t-t-t-taking Sparda's blade from you. You had it with you, the Force Edge, when you were in Fortuna all those months ago."

Dante sighed, his hands going to his own waist as he shook his head. "Hate to break it to you, but my brother has it now. And he's been in Hell as far as I know." he lifted Ebony and Ivory. "But if it's a fight you're looking for, I'll gladly give you one. I can't let your little cult keep running around and raising hell now can I?"

Agnus widened his eyes as he heard this, his grip on the blade tightening. A part of him didn't believe Dante, but the devil hunter had no reason to lie if he was staying and fighting.
The scientist was confident in his own power, however. "I see. I'l just have t-t-t-t-t-to see for myself. Even if you don't have the Force Edge, t-t-t-t-then your blood, and that other sword you wield will be most valuable for my research."
In a burst of light, Agnus had transformed into something more demonic.
He resembled a locust, wings constantly moving to keep him airborn. He had long horns, and what resembled a halo forming from his head.

Dante lifted his arm to cover his eyes, but lowered it when the light faded. His smile remaining. "Guess I should've brought the flyswatter. Didn't expect to fight the Mothman today."

Agnus flew at Dante, his blade being thrusted forth in an attempt to pierce the Devil Hunter.

The Son of Sparda leapt over the blow, Ebony and Ivory pointing down as he went over the man turned devil, unloading them both into Agnus yet getting little results.
In a blur of red, Dante had rushed through the air, spinning, and pulling the Rebellion off his back after holstering both pistols.

Agnus had swung upwards, hoping to strike Dante, but only to realize he'd missed his strike, and quickly turned to look at Dante's current location.

Without any hesitation, Dante had raced at Agnus, his blade burning red as he moved faster than the eye could see.
He thrusted his blade forth, piercing the flesh of his foe and sending the locust-like demon flying backwards.
The moment he saw it hit the ground, Dante raced forward once again, sending a flurry of slashes through the devil before performing countless stabs faster than the eye could see. At last, he placed both hands onto the Rebellion, bringing it back as though he were about to swing it like a baseball bat, and then did just that.

Once more, and with a scream, Agnus flew back, crashing into the wall as red flames went over his body.
After hitting the floor, he went into the air as his fists began to clench. Wings began to move at incredible speeds, kicking up a massive amount of wind that put out the red flames and even caused Dante to stumble.
Throwing his hands out, gateways began to open up, demons that looked aquatic like pouring through, jumping into the floor as if they tore through reality itself. They had blades on their heads that were long, almost like massive fins that stuck up through the floor as they swim through it, racing towards Dante.

The Devil Hunter leaps high into the air the moment they got close enough, surprised to see them follow him.
The devils leapt up as well, coming after Dante, but were met with the incredible power behind Ebony and Ivory's bullets.
He began to fill them with lead, spinning through the air before holstering one pistol to wield Rebellion in a hand. The Son of Sparda began to spin Rebellion, slicing through the artificial demons all before throwing his blade with incredible accuracy right into the chest of Agnus, pinning him against the wall.

He struggled, reaching for the blade to try and rip it out. It was to no avail as Dante was at Agnus in a flash, his hands on Rebellion's hilt as he forced the blade in deeper, sending it further into the wall behind Agnus even.

With a devilish grin, Dante put all of his strength into lifting the blade, slicing off a part of Agnus' arm and one of his wings before tearing it thrugh both the locust-like devil and the wall, pulling it back and staining the floor red.

Agnus began to scream once more as he fell to the floor, squirming as his regeneration began. However, he wasn't capable of regrowing limbs, so only his wounds were sealed and bleeding halted.
His shape shifted back to his human form, yet his arm was still missing. "H-h-how do you have so much power over me? I am an angel!" he asked, falling onto his back, struggling to try and stand.

"You surrendered your humanity. It's that simple." the Devil Hunter replied, placing Rebellion onto his back. "Threw it all away just to make yourself more like a demon."

"But you are not human!" he screamed out, finally getting to his feet slowly. "So why am I i-i-inferior?"

"You don't give humans enough credit." Dante said, slowly approaching. "Okay, yeah, they're bodies lack the physical capabilities of a demon... but humans have something demons don't."

Agnus scrambled to get his notes off the table with his one hand, looking down at the paper. "What? What is it demons l-l-l-lack?" he begged, approaching Dante swiftly. "Please! For the sake of my research!"

The Devil Hunter lifted Ivory, firing one shot at the compilation of papers and blasting a hole through them, sending them all flying through the air.

The alchemist lifted his hands, trying to get every piece he could all while repeating the word 'no' over and over.

"If you're going to continue your research in the next life," Dante began, pointing his pistol right at Agnus' forehead. "Do your homework first."

"Wait!" he cried out, throwing his one hand out towards Dante. "It wasn't me that planned to lure you here!" he let slip out in hopes of saving his own life, all so he could continue his research.

Dante halted, his smile fading as his eyes focused on Agnus.

"It was that woman! That woman M-M-M-Morrigan!" he confessed. "She gave that man Morrison your job in hopes of luring you out here. It was all her plan!'

The Devil Hunter began to laugh, clapping his hands together all before putting his gun's sights back on Agnus. "See, Mothman, I already figured it out." he admitted, his smile remaining. "And I know exactly what Morrigan is too. I knew it the moment she opened that door. I could sense it. Plus, red eyes aren't natural. It was all obvious from the start."

"Then... T-t-t-t-then why did you play along?" he asked, confusion washing over him.

"Well, for one thing, I can't let the Order keep running around. Especially if you're making artificial devils, summoning real ones with Devil Arms, and turning yourselves into them. Secondly, it wouldn't have been any fun if I hadn't played along." at last, the trigger was pulled, a gunshot ringing throughout the mansion.

Agnus let out a "Wai-" but was cut off, sent flying backwards as the bullet pierced him. He was left lifeless, the papers he'd commited his life to writing falling around him and landing on the floor.

With a twirl, the pistol was placed back into it's holster. "Now..." the Son of Sparda turned his back on the scene, walking away. "Let's go see about this lady and her kid's true intentions."

Dante stood on the porch, knocking on the door. He waited for someone to answer as he felt demonic power nearby, but not quite as strong as before.
His eyes lifted along with his head when the door opened, seeing the man from before instead of Morrigan. With the information he'd gathered and the power he was feeling, he'd already put together that the person standing before him was Morrigan's son, the one who hired Lady.

"Can I help you?" the yellow eyed, young man asked after focusing on the hunter.

"I'm guessing your mom's out, kid?"

Giving a nod, the young man spoke once again. "She said she had some business to take care of."

Dante nodded slowly. "At night, huh? After I told her not to come out during this time, and she claimed she was too scared to?"

The young, white haired man looked down. "I'm pretty worried about her. But, she said it was important."

"Uh-huh. I'm sure it was. Mind if I come in? I think we've got a lot to talk about. Plus, the lady's still gotta pay me when she gets back."

Giving a nod, he stepped aside. His yellow eyes seemed a bit cold, but he wasn't emotionless. He seemed nice enough. "Sure."

The Devil Hunter wasn't sure if this was all an act, however. He couldn't trust him. Not until he had more information.
"So, what's your name, kid?" Dante asked, looking around the living room. It was quite nice. There were a couple of chairs, a lamp, a couch, and a TV.

"Reyan." he responded simply, not saying much else.

"Reyan, huh?" he said, taking a seat on one of the chairs after laying Rebellion against the wall. "I heard from a friend of mine that you hired her before I got called in by your mother. Any reason why your mother would call me in after you already called in Lady?"

He shook his head, eyes lowering. "I let her know, actually. But she hired you anyway."

Nodding slowly, Dante began to put the pieces together. Or, he hoped he was. If Reyan had hired Lady, who had no demonic blood within her, then maybe he wasn't in on this after all. But that would lead to the thought that Morrigan was keeping many things hidden from her son.
Looking back to Reyan, Dante decided to ask him "So, it's just you two? No one else?"

Shaking his head, Reyan replied with "No. It's always just been the two of us."

The young man's expressions, his coldness, and the tone of his voice were reminders to Dante. Reminders of his brother. He wondered if he was simply getting these feelings after what Vergil pulled months before, but even if that were the case, Dante felt a connection.
"Listen, kid, I think we need to have a talk."

"Huh?" he seemed caught off guard, his eyes even widening. "What do you mean?"

Dante decided to push a little, just to see what kind of reaction he would get. "Was your mother ever a part of the Order of the Sword?"

A look of confusion became apparent all before he shook his head. "You mean that religious group back in Fortuna?"

"That's the one. I prefer the term 'cult'. Sums 'em up better."

Reyan shook his head. "No. We weren't a part of that all."

Dante began to stand up. "Does she go out a lot? Not come back for long periods of time?"

He was taken off guard by this, implying the assumption was correct. "What does that matter?"

"I think she's hiding things from you, kid." Dante said, approaching Reyan. "On my job, one of the cult's members told me your mom planned it all. She wanted me for the Force Edge, to-"

"I think you should leave." Reyan cut him off, his cold expression turning into an aggravated one.

Dante smiled, a small laugh escaping. "Sorry, kid. That's not happening. Not until I get some answers from Morrigan."

"Then come back tomorrow, when she's home."

Shaking his head, Dante crossed his arms. "No can do. I'm getting this done tonight. Who knows what hell she can raise by morning when she learns Agnus is dead." he focused on Reyan, blinking. "But, you're welcome to try and kick my ass out of here if you think you've got what it takes, kid."

"Fight you?" Reyan raised an eyebrow before chuckling a little himself. "I'd rather not go there."

"Why? You scared? Let me tell you, the cops aren't gonna stop me either if that's what you're thinking. Come on, kid." Dante wanted to know for sure if his feeling was correct.

"I'm not scared." he responded, looking down.

"Then kick my ass." he smirked.

Reyan finally clinched his fist before throwing a punch his way with a speed that was incredible, and a power that was even more so.

Dante caught his fist with ease despite the speed and power being unnatural, proving his own superior. "There it is. Guess I was right, huh?"

The yellow eyed man widened his eyes. "How did you-" he was surprised, seeming as if he'd never found someone who can match him. "You aren't human, are you?"

Dante gave him a light push, sending Reyan stumbling back. "We're the same, you and I. And your mother."

He shook his head. "What are you getting at?"

"What I'm getting at, kid, is that your mother is-" he was cut off by a blast of fire that burned as hot as the fires of Hell itself.

Dante swiftly rolled out of the way, watching the ball incinerate the walls, melting them with ease. "...And... there's mom."

Morrigan stood in the doorway, having overheard most of the conversation. "I'm surprised, Dante. You're smarter than people give you credit for." she smiled slightly, lowering her hand that she'd thrown the fireball from.

Dante pulled Ebony and Ivory from their holsters, pointing both guns at the woman. "Kid, you might wanna leave. Me and your mom have a lot to talk about, and I don't think you wanna see where this is going."

The woman turned to her son, her eyes closing as she nodded. "Go."

Reyan stared at her a moment. "Is what he said true?"

"I said go." her eyes narrowed as she snapped at her son, her tone being an angered one.

Caught off guard, Reyan did take a few steps towards the door.

Dante whistled at this display. "That was harsh, don't ya think? I think the kid deserves to know what he is, and what you are. I know exactly what you are. The thing I can't figure out is who the demon was. As far as I know, Sparda only had two, and I imagine Mundus would think he was lowering himself if he had a kid with a human. So what devil are you related to?"

Morrigan let out a small, twisted chuckle. "Oh, that's not your concern." her eyes went to a half opened state as she gained a devious smile.

"Planning on keeping it a secret, huh? Fine by me." the Devil Hunter replied, walking over to Rebellion, holstering one pistol to lift it.

"We don't have to fight, you know." she said, approaching him slowly. "You could join me. After all, both of us are far beyond these humans..."

Dante's eyes scanned over her, a smirk forming. "That sounds really appealing." he began to walk towards her, but suddenly swinging his blade down onto her. "Sorry, but I'm not for unleashing the Demon World."

The woman sighed, having blocked the incoming blade with a wave of black energy. "That's disappointing. Your brother was a lot more fun."

Widening his eyes slightly, Dante jumped backwards. "Well, I hate to lower your expectations, but me and Vergil tend to not get along." he pointed his blade at the black haired woman. "Let's cut the talking, and get this over with."

"Very well, Dante." she said, lifting her cloak of red and black and sending forth tendrils of shadows to strike at the devil hunter.

Dante ran, jumped, flipped, and rolled to avoid the endless flurry before finally diving sideways, unloading Ivory and sending a flurry of bullets at the demonic sorceress, watching as each bullet was caught by a tendril.

The witch then lifted her hands, sending blasts of dark flames at the red devil as the onslaught of tendrils continue to come forth.

Dante got to his feet, swiftly racing into the tendril storm and dodging each fireball with ease.
When close enough, he attempted to stab her with his blade, succeeding, and pushing her up against the wall.

"You're strong. You remind me of myself when I was younger, actually. You haven't fully awakened your demonic power, though. Sorry, but I think you've lost, baby."

Morrigan widened her red eyes, anger beginning to build.
She lifted her hands, a blast of red and black lightning escaping her fingertips that blew Dante down to the ground.
She looked down to the blade in her side, pulling it out and wincing in pain as she did all before tossing it aside.

The witch stumbled, lifting her hands and sending a continuous stream of red lightning at the devil hunter.

Dante acted swiftly, getting into a defensive stance that would absorb most of the damage sent his way. It was a skill he'd learned long ago, but used rarely.
He took the endless stream, unable to move. He needed to think of something to escape, because even in this stance, he was taking damage.
His blue eyes scanned the area, before they rested on Reyan with a conflicted look on his face. He had never left, and had been watching this for sometime.
The Devil Hunter mustered all of his strength. "Listen, kid. It's times like this that really determine..." a grunt was let out. "Really determine the kind of person you are. No matter what choice you make... I ain't gonna hold it against you, kid. You can stand there and let her fry me, or you can stop her."

Morrigan chuckled a bit, looking to Reyan. "Don't listen to his nonsense. We both know which choice you'll make. After this... I promise to tell you everything."

Reyan turned his head to his mother, her words tempting him more than Dante's.

"Think about it. Why didn't she tell you before? She's only willing to now after she pretty much has no choice. Weird, isn't it?" Dante said.

Morrigan narrowed her eyes out of anger. "He's trying to manipulate you, turn you against me."

Dante laughed. "Yeah, I don't think I'm the one doing the manipulating here."

Reyan looked down to the floor. He was clearly greatly conflicted. Everything Dante was saying was right, but his mother he's known all his life. She's been all he's known.
At last, he took a deep breath and began to approach Morrigan, picking up the Rebellion along the way as if to keep Dante from getting his hands back on it.

The Son of Sparda was weakening, and so he was about to make a move whether it was smart or not, because if he just stood here using the Royal Guard, he would eventually be chipped away.

Reyan, looked down for another moment, his eyes closing before finally he threw the Rebellion to Dante.

Morrigan widened her eyes, surprise overtaking her.

Giving a devilish grin, Dante grabbed his blade, and used Morrigan's shock to his advantage to throw the blade at Morrigan with a yell, piercing her chest and pinning her up against the wall.

Reyan widened his eyes, stepping back in horror as he watched Dante do this.

Morrigan had her eyes widened, her arms going limp as the lightning faded, and finally she became lifeless.

Dante let out a deep breath, walking up to her body before pulling the Rebellion from her chest. "..Come on, Morrigan. You're half demon. Surely you've got more life in you than that." he mumbled, staring at her for a moment. Even before he awakened his demonic power fully, he could take a lot more than that. "...Maybe the demon that was your parent wasn't that strong, then. Or you sacrificed a lot for that magic." he rubbed the back of his head.

Reyan was left in shock, his back hitting the wall before he slid down it, sitting in the floor. "You... killed her?"

The Devil Hunter sighed, coming close to the young man. "..Sorry, kid. That wasn't my intention. Thought she could handle more than that. I appreciate the help, though."

Reyan shook his head. "Is that supposed to make me feel better?" he responded, his yellow eyes beginning to water.

Dante sat down beside him, a hand going to his shoulder. "Listen, you made the right choice, kid-"

"Shut up." he responded, coldly as his voice started to break. "Get your hand off me."

The Devil Hunter sighed before standing up. "Listen" he began, reaching into his coat and placing his business card onto the floor. "When your head's clear, get in touch. Even if it's to kick my ass." he placed Rebellion onto his back, walking towards the door. "I'm sorry, kid." he spoke before leaving the house.

Dante was lost in thought on the drive back, plenty of thoughts rushing over him. He wondered if there was a way to avoid the way it all played out, but he thought it was best to not dwell on it. He did what he had to do.

He got back in his shop, Nero nowhere to be seen. "Aw, kid. I told you to look after things." he sighed, sitting in his seat and propping his feet up onto the table, listening to the tune in his jukebox that sounded more like something Nero would listen to.
"..Must've been here recently." he mumbled, listening to the song.

The Devil Hunter slowly began to drift off to sleep, but his slumber was interrupted by the sound of an approaching motorcycle. One that ran right through the door, breaking the double doors.
It halted, parking, and revealing a woman with sunglasses, long, blonde hair, and a shirt that was low cut and black with a small lightning bolt shape cut down it.

"Whoa!" Dante lifted his head, his hands raising. "Slow down, babe!"

"Are you Dante?" she asked, getting off the motorcycle and approaching slowly. "Son of the Legendary Dark Knight, Sparda?"

Widening his eyes, he had to ask "Where did you hear that?"

"So you're not denying it." she replied, turning her back to him before turning swiftly, a blast of lightning from her hand flying at Dante, knocking him from his chair and against the wall.
Swiftly, she took one of the blades off his wall before throwing it at the hunter, piercing his chest and pinning him against the wall.
She then continued the continuous stream of lightning. "Aren't you the son of Sparda? Didn't your daddy ever teach you how to use a sword?"
The mysterious woman then lifted her motorcycle, throwing it at Dante.

The Son of Sparda twirled Ebony and Ivory, not even tired despite all this pain. "Sword huh? Time to go to work, guys." he said, the guns beginning to burn with red, demonic power before Dante unloaded the bullets charged with demonic power onto the motorcycle, blowing it back at Trish and forcing it to explode.

The woman dived down to the floor with a yell, not seeming to be harmed by the explosion too much and then beginning to stand.

Dante slowly approached, pulling the blade from his chest. "For years I've known there's demonic blood in me. Since you know who I am, and what I am..." he pointed his gun at her forehead. "Looks like things really are gonna get wild from here on out."

"Maybe." she said, staring at him and rising up. "But I'm not your enemy. My name is Trish." she lifted a hand, taking her sunglasses off to finally reveal her face entirely.

The Devil Hunter was left in shock as he realized he was staring at the face of his own mother. His eyes widened, stumbling backwards.

"Ahem." a familiar voice came from the broken doors. "Am I interrupting something?"

Dante and Trish both turned to the voice, revealing it to be none other than Morrison.

"Morrison, this is a bad time. You're gonna have to come back later." The hunter in red spoke up.

"Hate to tell you this, Dante, but this client won't wait. I've got a job for you, cash up front." he said, approaching them both.

"Cash up front, huh?" he replied, looking to Trish, then to Morrison and sighing.

A man walked in, one with black hair going to his shoulders yet brushed out of his face. He had tattoos covering his arms and chest, a black vest being worn yet left open as he gripped a cane in one hand and a book in the other.

"This is your new client." Morrison said. "I'm gonna go get Lady and Raillyn in on this, let you three figure out... whatever this is going on." he said before walking back outside, leaving.

Dante placed a hand onto his forehead, trying to sort all of this out as too much was happening at one time. "So, what's your name?"

The man turned the page of his book. "I do not have a name. I am but two days old." he said lowly, snapping his book shut. "Just kidding. You can call me V." he said, looking up to both Dante and Trish.

"Okay, V. Why don't you tell me a little more about this before I get back to Trish here." he said, leaning against his desk.

"A powerful demon is about to resurrect and... we need your help, Dante." he said, his eyes seeming cold.

The Son of Sparda chuckled. "You have no idea how often I hear that line."

"Oh, but this one is different." he stepped forward, lifting his cane off the floor. "This demon is one you know all too well."

Dante raised an eyebrow. "Yeah? This demon got a name?"

V smiled slightly before speaking the devil's name.

(Long time no see. I hope you're all doing well.

I'm pretty happy with this one. It's really long, and I apologize for that. I didn't expect it to be that long. But I feel it does a good job of setting up what's to come. I have two more things for Rite of Heritage I want to write before officially being finished and moving on to the third part of this story.

I hope you enjoyed, and I hope you found this interesting. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll get back to them whenever I get the next chapter done. Enjoy.)
