They worked in silence.

Mary wished she could say something- anything- to relieve the tension. But nothing she said would be good enough; she could not do right by him. And she felt that deeply.

Beside her, Bert folded some of her clothes, placing them carefully into her bag. She had said she didn't need help packing- that was what magic was for. Though he had insisted, and the look in his eye devoid her of any argument. He wanted to help. This once, she could not deny him.

This farewell was particularly painful. Lying in bed together, the night before, they had lain in silence, both holding the other and appreciating the time that they had left. Mary felt, in the way the wind moved, that she would be gone longer this time. She simply knew it. And as he often said- she knew everything.

It was becoming harder to say goodbye, to release his hand as she drifted upward into the sky.

"Goodbye, Mary Mine," he would say, but there was hardly any feeling behind the words. They were so mechanical, they were empty.

How she hated it.

"Just think, one day, I won't have to go anywhere," she told him, and he smiled.

The smile was as empty as his farewell. He didn't believe her. She didn't know everything, not as he thought, but she did know that much. But she wanted it to be true, for him. For their sake.

"That would be nice," he commented.

She kissed him, only briefly, the touch still burning her lips as she drifted away. But it felt as if she wasn't the one who was leaving- it was him. Mary had broken him. The more she left, the less he seemed to notice. No, she could not do right by him.

This was actually meant to be a happier prompt and then this happened.

Also, I just want people to know that I am aware there's a larger chapter limit than 93 but for some reason, it kept glitching. I didn't want the story to be too long anyway, so I was going to split it at 100 prompts. It's a bit premature but I'll keep with that and continue these prompts up until I reach the 200 mark, so hopefully, this site doesn't crash on me again before that.

Thank you to everyone who has followed this and favourited it, continuing on from my last prompts! It means so much!
