Sibling weekend in
A guest asked for a oneshot of Emma singing "a pocketful of sunshine" like in the scene from "Easy A" when her parents ask her what she did while they were out of town for the weekend.
Guest: I'm not sure I'm getting the details of your request. When is it supposed to be set? Beside or after Henry finds Emma?
Guest: Thank fuck you were here to point it out. You're right, there has been a time warp. I'm away to find the right people to do the dance with to sort this mess out.
(alternatively, I had to copy and paste from my laptop to my phone as FF wasn't letting me post from my laptop and I accidentally hit paste twice. Since I've been on holiday, I couldn't fix it).
"We're home!"
Emma smiled when she heard her parents' voices call from their hallway. She eased herself off of the couch with little Neal safely in her arms and wandered through to greet them.
"Hey guys." Emma said happily as her dad took Neal off her, kissing both their heads. "Good minibreak?"
"The best." Snow said cheerfully, hugging her daughter.
"Thanks again for looking after your brother, Em. Really helped us relax knowing he was safe with his big sissy." Charming told her. Emma shrugged.
"It was no problem. I was here anyway. I wouldn't leave baby bro to be sent to kennels for the weekend when it could be helped." She teased. Both her parents just rolled their eyes playfully.
"So, what did you and Emmy get up to then, big guy?" Charming cooed to his son. Emma smiled tellingly, but since both her parents were looking at Neal, she got away with it.
"Oh, nothing much. We had a nice, quiet weekend." She responded calmly.
Saturday afternoon
"Dammit I hate this song." Emma groaned as she flicked through the channels. Neal was settled in his playpen, gnawing on a teething ring. Emma glanced over at her baby brother. Yes, he really was quite content. Despite herself, Emma flicked back to the music channel the song's video was playing on. Not being able to help it, she found her foot tapping along to the beat.
"I got a pocket, a pocketful of sunshine." Emma muttered to herself. Maybe this song was catchier than she thought. Still cheesy, but good for a silly dancing session.
Then, when the video finished on TV, Emma looked it up on YouTube and had it blaring through the whole house while she danced to it in front of Neal's playpen, much to his amusement. Emma brought him out to dance with her. And that's how they spent the rest of their Saturday. Dancing to pocketful of sunshine together. When the finished for the last time before Emma put Neal to bed, she held her little brother up and looked him straight in the eye.
"Now Neal," Emma began seriously "some things are special secrets between siblings. This goofy dancing session is one of them. I expect mom and dad to never hear a word of it. Agreed?" Neal gurgled. Emma smiled and kissed his cheek. "Thanks bro."
And so the siblings' secret would remain between just them forevermore.
