New year, new colour scheme

Fangirl448 asked for a oneshot of the Charmings having a New Year's Eve party and things getting a little out of control. Set in the EF as though there had been no curse.

"Well…this is certainly one way to kick off a new year." Charming commented, smiling sheepishly at the guests scattered around the ballroom. Some of them (mainly their closest friends) looked amused. Others looked like they'd give the actual Grumpy a run for his money.

"You see she doesn't actually know how to control her magic yet." Snow explained awkwardly. "She's not long turned two. Even tots with magic have terrible twos tantrums. Her favourite colour right now is green. So she wanted everything to be green. We did explain to her that we'd need other colours too…but clearly Emma decided to take matters into her own hands." Snow pointed out, giving the tot a disapproving look. Emma didn't even seem to notice her mother's stare. She was too busy clapping her hands in glee at all the splodges of green paint spattered around the ballroom. Both on the room itself, and on the guests to the New Year's Eve party her parents had been hosting. Of course, many of the guests were royals themselves, or other members of "high society". Those with young children- like Ella and Thomas- seemed to completely understand. Whereas those who had no children of their own looked like they wanted to strangle Snow and Charming. They had both heard a few mutters about keeping better control of their daughter, but given the circumstances, chose to ignore the remarks.

An awkward silence befell the whole room. Snow and Charming weren't sure where to go from here. It wasn't like they could suddenly clean off both the room and everyone's outfits, including their own. They had thought Emma's tantrum at her perceived lack of anything green would fizzle out quickly. Clearly, they had been wrong. Suddenly, Geppetto cleared his throat. Snow and Charming looked at him imploringly, begging him to break the silence.

"If I may, your majesties, I make that twenty seconds till midnight." He announced. Charming nodded, wrapping an arm around Snow.

"Thank you, Geppetto. Well, everyone, let's get ready to see the New Year in together." Charming announced to the room at large, grateful for the distraction away from his toddler's naughty antics. Charming kept his eye on the grandfather clock at the other end of the room and began the countdown with Snow at ten seconds to go.

"Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one! Happy New Year!" The whole room called together, momentarily forgetting Emma's additions to their outfits. Snow and Charming turned to face each other, sharing a passionate kiss. Starting the new year in the way they wished to continue it: together. They then turned behind them, where Emma was none the wiser to the people celebrating around her. The party was over for her. She had fallen asleep, curled up on her daddy's throne. Snow and Charming walked over to her together, with Charming scooping her up carefully into his arms. Snow gently pressed a kiss to her head.

"Happy New Year, our little troublemaker." Snow whispered. Truth be told, they felt Emma's decorations added a much needed splash of colour to some of the more boring outfits dotted about the room…not that they'd ever tell any of their guests that.
