Birthstones
Ashazara est asked for a oneshot of a teenaged Emma, having broken the curse, saving up and buying Snow a necklace with each of their birthstones as well as Emma's. This is Emma's way of accepting them as her parents. I just went with Josh's birthstone and a separate winter one for Snow.
Guest: I'm not sure I understand you?
Guest: As you quite correctly pointed out, I'm afraid I've already written something very similar.
It hasn't been an easy transition for the fifteen year old. First some crazy guy on a motorbike telling her she was a princess from a land of fairytales that had to break some curse, then she was fighting a frickin' fire-breathing dragon and found out the whole thing was true. She really was the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. Not that she felt much like a princess. Or even a daughter, for that matter. Emma wasn't used to people looking out for her. She thought her parents were nice and all, but she really just wanted to be left in peace. She appreciated that she cared, but she wasn't ready to feel out of control of her day to day life. She now had someone cooking her three meals a day. Meals she had a choice in what would be served (although there always seemed to be something green snuck onto her plate). She had someone waking her up in the morning for school. Someone checking she had a good day and was doing her homework. Someone to buy her all the supplies she needed. Someone to make sure she had appropriate clothes for the weather. Nobody else had ever given a damn. Emma might not be ready yet to fully accept Snow White and David as her parents, but she was ready to show some visible thanks for the care and attention they had both shown her. Since Mother's Day was approaching, that would start with Snow.
Emma had quickly gotten herself a little Saturday job doing a paper round for the local corner shop. She had been saving up her wages from that and had bought Snow a present she hoped she would like.
Snow woke up that morning with a smile on her face. Today was Mother's Day. She was a mother. Sure, to a slightly older child than she intended, but she wouldn't trade Emma for the world. Snow gently pressed her lips against her still sleeping husband's before slipping out of bed and into the kitchen to make herself some tea. That's where she saw the little card and package waiting on the counter. Upon closer inspection, she saw it was addressed to her. She didn't want to get her hopes up, maybe Charming had left her a little cute something last night. But she had a sneaking suspicion it was from Emma. After all, the envelope wasn't in her husband's handwriting. Snow opened the card and it was indeed a Mother's Day card.
To Snow,
Thanks for everything,
Emma.
Snow's heart melted at the card alone. Sure, Emma was still referring to her as Snow, but it was a proper Mother's Day card. She was beginning to accept them. Snow opened the little package and found a necklace inside. It looked homemade. It was on a piece of thin golden string with three beads. A sparkling red garnet, a beautiful blue-green turquoise, and in the middle of the two, a light blue opal. Snow understood it instantly. It was their birthstones. Snow clutched the necklace tightly, tears gathering in her eyes. She would go and wrap Emma up in her arms right now if she could, but she knew the reason Emma left this here was because she snuck out early today, not wanting a fuss over the gift. Snow would respect her daughter's wishes, and treasure her gift always.
