The perfect sign
A guest asked for a oneshot of Snowing hanging a sign that reads "You are our greatest adventure" up in Emma's room. They find it whilst shopping for Neal's nursery.
Guest: By all means use the OC and have fun writing.
It wasn't easy preparing for the birth of their second child. In fact, all the mystery surrounding how they were back in Storybrooke was the least of their problems. In ways, being back was a good thing. It meant they had Emma and Henry back in their lives. All they had to do was defeat the Wicked Witch and they could live out their happy endings. After all, they'd taken down Regina and Pan, what more could the Wicked Witch do? What was harder for the Charmings was being able to be excited about the birth of this child, when they'd missed so much of the life of their firstborn. In normal situations, they would have been able to make Emma feel included in the build-up to the birth of the baby. Something which was entirely impossible now. Emma was still dealing with the shock of having her memories back and finding out her mother was nearly full term. Would she have a chance to get her head around it before the baby was born? Snow and Charming weren't entirely sure. It wasn't easy to find out with Emma clearly avoiding them. That was a stressful situation in and of itself. They'd missed an entire year of their daughter's life, that was after missing the first twenty-eight, and it seemed like the last thing Emma wanted to do was spend any time with them. They couldn't deny that hurt. She left first thing in the morning before breakfast and didn't come home until after dinner most nights. She claimed to be busy looking for the witch, but her parents weren't stupid. They knew she was avoiding them. They knew Emma was feeling replaced. From her point of view, they understood, no matter how untrue it was. This baby could not replace her. They would not want it to. Emma was always going to be their firstborn, always going to be their child. This child might have many things, but there were still some things Emma got to have with her parents that this child would never. The trip to the Enchanted Forest with her mother, the shared working time with her father, all these little things were Emma's and Emma's alone. So as they were shopping for bits and pieces for the baby's nursery, when they saw the sign, they knew they had to get it for their daughter. It was perfect for their relationship with her.
When Emma came home that night, she decided that she couldn't deal with the frustrated looks from her parents. She knew they wanted her to open up to them about how she was feeling, but she'd never really been any good at that kind of stuff. So she said she was tired and going straight to bed.
She saw the sign as soon as she entered her room. There was no missing it. It was hung right about her bed. In beautiful, swirly letters read the words: you are our greatest adventure. Emma knew instantly it was from her parents. She didn't really know how to feel. Truth be told, she didn't want to be an adventure. She wanted to be a daughter. But she understood the meaning behind it. She was still theirs. Just because they were having another baby didn't mean they were giving up on her. Even if Emma wasn't ready to accept that yet.
