Sorry I Couldn't be Better 19- Fancy Dress
And we're back, yay! I honestly have no idea what to say here except that this lady who is the principal at my drama school and who I've known for nine and a half years and she's like a mother to me is quitting and I was trying so hard not to cry. I'll miss you so much Zita!
Many, many thanks to...
Vicecreama31: It's not that I only write when I'm depressed, it's just then I like to write when I'm depressed. I write other times as well. But I get where you're coming from, thanks for the advice.
Phantom Wish: Thanks for your lovely review, I kinda thought you'd gone missing so it's nice to hear from you. Glad you liked the story!
Everything will perish one day: Wow I love your story and I'm glad you and the teacher understand each other better
Dwmalove: Wow thankyou *blushes* connections are a beautiful thing
Quiet-Invisible-Bookworm: I am so glad this story helps you, that's what I'm aiming for with it. And I'm sure you're not worthless, everyone has something totally unique and amazing about them. Glad you liked the story too
Mjus: Totally yup...connections just kinda came to me I guess. I'm glad you liked the chapter. I actually can write quite a bit over the holidays because I stay up late to ungodly hours and write. Merry Christmas to you too though. And evil spider, you're life was saved. We have a family of huntsman in our bike shed who watch me when I steal my brothers bike.
Galactic-Demise: Ok so at the moment, there will be hints of pairings but no actual pairings. I just feel that the last things on these kids minds would be love. They might have crushes or spend more time with another person but it's mostly friendship. Hope that clears it up!
Guest: Yeah sometimes counsellors or therapists don't help at all. For instance I mentioned briefly to the school counsellor that I get lost easily (which isn't really true) and she thought that was the reason I felt undermined in my family. I was so annoyed at her. And I find more comfort in my friends and I hope you do too! I'm glad you liked the chapter, it was one of the hard ones for me to write so thanks!
Sabrina bina: I think you were saying you would give Maka and BlackStar hugs? If that's the case, hugs all round! *hugs everyone* And yay Kim!
Lost Echo: You don't have to be embarrassed about sending that message, it really made my day. I'm so glad it helps you and that I'm writing it accurately. Keep safe and be awesome!
Disclaimer: Soul Eater couldn't possibly be mine...I mean...unless everything about me is a lie O.O
Maka was awake again. It was at night when the self doubt began to enter her mine, she couldn't get comfortable and her mind was racing at a million miles per hour. What if this had happened? What about that? If she had done that, would this be different? And what about the time she did that?
And the hate, the detest for herself would begin, the voice slowly stretching and waking, rejoicing in its control over Maka's thoughts. The smallest things, the tiniest mistakes, they just seemed so important to dwell on. Her deepest darkest fears would become prominent.
Because when it was night, it was just you and your thoughts. No distractions, nothing to focus on, not anything. Just you lying alone in the dark whilst everything overwhelmed you.
It all seemed so much bigger in the dark.
Maka rolled over, tangling herself in the in the sweaty sheets. Why couldn't she sleep? She wanted to, she really did but it just wasn't happening. She would close her eyes and her thoughts would all but attack her.
Time for a walk then. But then she'd get more oxygen in her brain and she'd be even more awake. Maybe she should go ask for a glass of warm milk or something from someone. But maybe they'd insist she take a sedative. She'd read about it in books. So far, this hospital was a little different from the ones she'd read about but it still followed the same basic guidelines.
So back to asking for something to help her sleep, what harm could it do? Anything was better than lying awake whilst the voice brought up every bad memory and forced her to relive them. And if she got a good night's sleep, she would have energy to deal with the full day party going on for Kim.
Decision made, Maka swung her legs out of bed and shivered slightly, her sleep attire not made for cold weather. Her blonde hair fell to just past her shoulders, some strands sticking up in a frustrating manner. The teen was just hoping that no one else was walking around near her room, Despite liking Soul and Kid enough, she wasn't in the mood to talk to them.
She slipped out of her room, her feet bare for maximum stealth. It wasn't that she was trying to hide, not really. She just didn't want to be noticed either.
The corridors were lit with the eerie blue lights like the last time Maka had gone wondering and she couldn't help but shiver though not from the cold this time, However inviting the hospital was during the day, all of that vanished when the sun went down. Maka would not have been surprised if a spirit of the dammed had crossed her path, rattling chains and wailing about finding their loved one.
Maka wandered through the halls, trying to find a staff member. There was always one on duty. Once she heard Soul's voice muttering something and she ducked round a corner, peeping out discreetly as she waited for the boys to pass by, Kid was obviously the person Soul was talking to. She was puzzled to see however, that it was only Soul who walked past, apparently talking to himself. But then again...mental hospital...everyone had some sort of mental illness. Why would Soul be different?
Maka eventually came across a staff member, a slightly plump woman with sunny blonde hair and a wide smile.
"Call me Juliet," she'd insisted as she led Maka to the kitchen to get some milk. She'd explained that she wasn't authorized to give Maka anything medical to help her sleep but she seemed certain that the milk would help. "Was in a physic ward myself as a kid." She chatted away whilst Maka stayed silent beside her. "Met my best friend there, lovely bloke."
"Right," Maka said quietly, praying they'd get to the kitchen soon so she could stop hearing the wondrous adventures of Juliet, her cat Bones and her amazing best friend who she kept forgetting to name. Not that Maka was curious or anything.
They eventually arrived at the kitchen, Juliet having gone on to talking fondly of the doctor at her ward. Maka pushed open the door to the kitchen to find Harvar there with Sid, the man heating up milk over the stove whilst Harvar stared blankly at a little medicine cup holding a small tablet, obviously for him to take.
"Oh hello Maka, Juliet." Sid said, not even looking up from the milk. "I'm guessing you need some milk too Maka."
"Um...yes please." Maka said politely. "I can't really sleep, not since I came here."
"Ah, I will mention that to Marie and Azusa." Sid declared, reaching for the bottle of milk sitting to the side to pour into the pot. "Juliet you can go now. Thanks for helping Maka here." The woman gave no protest, just promised Maka that they would chat again and walked off.
"Bye Maka!" She called exuberantly before vanishing.
"Sorry about Juliet." Sid motioned to Harvar and the boy opened a cupboard and pulled out two mugs, the grinning sheep on the sides faded. "She has a few problems herself but she's not really that bad."
"She was...nice." Maka decided, realising not once had Juliet pestered her about anything.
"That's one way of putting it." Sid chuckled, pouring the milk into the two mugs and handing them to Harvar and Maka. "Drink them here please."
Maka took a sip, taking the chance to observe Harvar. The boy mostly stuck to Ox and he was an enigma, he didn't make a presence for himself. The boy in question was taking his tablet, washing it down with the warm milk. What was he here for?
Well maybe something to do with insomnia since he was awake and taking a sort of tablet. But then again, maybe he'd missed a tablet or had to take one at...Maka looked at the clock. So maybe the second reason wasn't right considering it was ten past one in the morning.
"Um, hi," Maka said awkwardly, uncomfortable with the silence since it reminded her of home. Sid looked amused when Harvar ignored her. The two teens finished their milk in silence, Harvar all but running the moment the mug was on the sink. Maka stared after him, sighing.
"Don't take it to heart Maka," Sid said warmly. "He hasn't made a proper conversation with anyone but Ox unless ordered to for two years. He won't start speaking now. Now, you best be getting back to bed. Do you need me to show you the way?"
"Yes please," Maka said gratefully, suddenly feeling tired. She hadn't been paying attention when Juliet led her to the kitchen and she would have ended up lost.
So she followed the man, out of the kitchen and into the blue lights of the halls.
Maka was roused early by shouting in the corridor outside her room. A girl's voice, distorted by anger was shrieking something, too frantic and high-pitched for Maka to make out.
"Sorry," A voice said dully when there was a lapse in the screaming. "It's not my choice."
"You promised!" The other voice cried, less frantic so Maka could make it out. "You said together!"
"I'm sorry." The second voice said again. "But hey, let's go somewhere else okay, we're right outside a bedroom."
Their footsteps started up and then faded away.
Maka rolled over and closed her eyes, hoping to slip off again. Her clock was hidden by the sweater and she was too lazy to pull it off and blind herself with the glowing numbers. But surely it was still early, she felt incredibly tired.
Knocking on the door ripped this thought to pieces.
"Maka it's me Liz," A voice called. "Can I come in, I want to help you pick your outfit for today!"
Maka sat up and pulled the sweater off the clock, revealing that it was ten to seven. So it was time to get up and get dressed. But what did Liz mean? Maka was just going to wear ordinary clothes like she did every day. Still, she voiced permission for Liz to enter and enter the teen did.
Liz scanned the room the moment she entered but then went to flop on the bed. She was wearing jeans embroidered with red sequins and a flashy gold tank top. Her hair was held back by a cute red bow.
"Why have you dressed up like that?" Maka asked, pushing her hair out of her face.
"Because it's Kim's leaving day party!" Liz exclaimed. "Of course we have to dress up."
"But I didn't bring any nice clothes." Maka said. She didn't even own any clothes nicer than her usual ones. Liz rolled her eyes and marched over to the open door wardrobe, ignoring the draws at the bottom in favour of looking at the hanging items. There were Maka's sweaters and button up shirts but nothing fancy which was what Liz was looking for.
"Maka do you have anything?" Liz asked, not even bothering to check the draws.
"No," Maka said plainly. "I..." She paused, wondering what to tell Liz. "I just never saw a reason to own any." Sort of the truth in a way so it worked.
"Well then you are coming with me and we are getting you dressed up." Liz declared and Maka was dragged away before she knew it, not even knowing what to expect. She'd never done this kind of stuff before. How could trying on clothes be fun?
"We're here," Liz said excitedly, knocking on the door for some reason. "I share with Patty but she's gone to annoy Ox."
"Why'd you knock?" Maka asked as Liz carefully opened the door and peered around.
"If someone was in here they'd get startled." Liz said seriously. "And then I'd know they were in there. Now, let's find you some gorgeous clothes."
Finding the perfect outfit involved making a mess. The floor was covered by the time Liz was happy and Maka ached from having to stand up so that Liz could hold outfits up to her body, babbling away as she did so.
"We always dress up on the final day party." She had explained as she held up a checked dress. "Hopefully none of us stand up Kim. She'll want to look the best."
Maka eventually ended up in denim jeans with a pink swirl running up the left leg, cute kitten heels in a silver colour that matched the design of Liz's black ones and a green and white striped wide shoulder sleeved tank top, different from Liz's spaghetti straps. Liz pushed Maka's fringe back with sparkly hair clips, insisting Maka didn't need to put her hair up in its signature ponytail look.
"Tada," Liz spun the teen around. "You look amazing. I can't wait to see what everyone else is wearing. We push all the tables together so we can eat breakfast together. Then we do their favourite session, Kim likes dodge ball so we'll probably be doing that, then we have lunch and a massive group therapy and Harvar will show his video. Then we'll cry and say goodbye and whoever looks after her will take her away leaving us with phone numbers on paper that we will never call."
Maka shot Liz a look. That was oddly pessimistic for the teen.
"Come on Maka, let's go." Liz pulled on her arm, suddenly cheering up. "I wonder if Tsubaki is showing off those gorgeous legs of hers." She dragged Maka away for the second time that morning.
The dining hall was chaotic when Maka and Liz arrived, people moving tables and Kid shrieking that it had to be perfectly symmetrical and BlackStar trying to ride on the tables and Ox chasing Patty around. Nygus was watching with a slightly amused expression, the other part of the expression being majorly annoyed. She cupped her hands around her mouth and yelled to get the teen's attention.
"Listen up all of you, continue like this and no special treats on Friday you understand?" Everyone nodded and began to move the tables more quietly with Kid only making a few comments on changing their positions slightly. Maka took the chance to scope out what everyone was wearing.
Surprise, surprise, Kid was in a suit, neatly pressed and obviously symmetrical. Who was this guys father and how did he get the money to buy so many suits? Soul was wearing jeans with a collared white dress shirt, plus a tie along with shiny black shoes. BlackStar had pretty much the same thing on except no tie and he was wearing flashy blue sneakers instead which kind of ruined the look. Kilik wore a bright t-shirt and jeans with Luke and Harvar in the same kind of outfits, Harvar wearing a cool jacket over his t-shirt. Ox was in a tux which Maka found to be way too much. Fire was wearing overalls with a red and white striped shirt under them.
Crona was there, the non-binary person (as Maka had been told one day by Marie) was wearing a pink dress shirt and tight black skinny jeans.
Then there was the girls.
Thunder wore clothes almost identical to Fire except she was wearing and blue and white striped shirt. Tami was wearing a miniskirt and floaty top. Patty was wearing the same as Liz except the pants were gold and the top red. Jacqueline was wearing a gorgeous dress patterned with flames of fire, shaped with beads. She looked sad though, her eyes red and puffy. Tsubaki had a floaty dress on that reached just above her knees in a midnight blue. She was showing off her legs as Liz had hoped.
And Kim, well Kim looked like she was graduating which in a way she was. Her dress was peach pink and tight, strapless and falling down into a floaty skirt that covered her feet. Her short hair was slicked back and silver earrings dangled from her ears.
No one had over done her, that was for sure, not even Jacqueline who was easily the second best dressed. She was stunning in every single aspect and she sure as hell knew it. She got to choose her breakfast first and sat down at the head of the table like a queen, Jacqueline on her left and Tami on her right.
"How does it feel to be going home?"
"We need to swap phone numbers."
"Who's picking you up?"
"Where do you live?"
The questions didn't stop, it was like you didn't matter until it was time to go. Even Kim seemed a bit overwhelmed towards the end of breakfast, stammering and snapping every now and then.
"Okay," Stein swooped in like an insane pigeon and got their attention right before Kim was about to yell angrily at Ox who had asked if he would date her. "Since Kim has asked for dodge ball, we will be playing it and variations of it until lunch. Off you go. Nygus and Sid will take you to the gym. They're in charge."
"How can we play in this?" Ox complained.
"Take of the jacket," Kid said easily.
"Our heels?" Tami questioned.
"Take them off." Nygus said fairly.
"I'm changing," some of the group decided, including Kim.
"Meet us in the gym, we'll set up for the first game, prison break." Sid said and the people who hadn't opted to change (Maka, Kid, Crona, Liz, Patty, Luke, Kilik, Harvar, Soul, BlackStar, Tsubaki Thunder and Fire) followed him. The people changing (Kim, Jacqueline, Tami and Ox) scurried off to their rooms.
"We're just taking out heels off." Liz declared when they arrived at the gym and soon a pile of shoes was dumped by the door. Sid was instructing Soul and BlackStar who were pushing two large rectangular blocks, the kind schools always have. Maka looked down and saw the court was designed like a netball court with other smaller lines running in between the large yellow ones that made up the netball court.
Soul and BlackStar pushed their blocks to opposite sides of their hall, placing them horizontally across the tops of the semicircles. Kid was placing balls across the centre line in a long row.
"We'll just wait for the others and then we'll play." Sid declared. "Kim will be a team captain and she'll choose the other captain."
"What's prison break?" Maka asked Tsubaki who was tying her hair up in a ponytail to keep it out of her face.
"It's sort of like dodge ball but more refined, as in it has more rules and finesse." Tsubaki said thoughtfully. "Anyway don't worry, Sid will explain it when the others get back."
Maka looked around the gym. She wasn't very good at sports and always got picked last for teams. Would that be the case here? No one knew she was bad at sports so she might get picked by someone thinking she was. But then it would be embarrassing when she failed miserably. Maybe she should say right now that she wasn't very good at them.
Before she could say this however, Kim, Jacqueline, Ox and Tami arrived in the gym, each having changed into pants, shorts or skirts.
"Okay," Sid threw a ball up in the air and caught it without even looking. "Time for some prison break!"
So this was meant to be up last night but a friend who deals with the same problems I do messaged me and asked if I wanted to watch Captain America in sync with her which I did and then I got tired.
Also, I got 16% in my maths exam. Here's to failing! *runs away*
Prison Break rules will be explained next chapter, basically it's a game I played all the time in primary school. Makes me nostalgic.
So yeah, byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (if you wanna review I'm not complainingg but I'm not complaining if you don't review either, you catch my drift?)
Also question, how old do you guys think I am? My friend did this on her FMA story and I guess I'm curious to know.
