p dir="ltr"br / I was just eating a quick breakfast of musli with raspberries when a mysterious person almost broke down my door. This person was Nick Fury. You see, I did not emknow/em that it was Fury, so naturally I attempted to judo flip him as soon as I had rushed to the entrance to our apartment and flung the door open. (You tend to be wary when your mom is one of the most wanted people in the universe.) I say emattempted, /embecause, well... Let's just say I ended up groaning on the 'If you aren't the pizza guy, go away' mat we have in front of our door pinned to the ground./p
p dir="ltr" "Good one." He told me, offering a hand to help me up. "Next time I'll get you..." I grumbled, refusing his offer and dusting my shirt and tracksuits off. br /"You almost did. You're definitely improving, soon you'll be able to beat me." He gave me a pat on the head. br /"Just you wait Furry, just you wait." I muttered under my /"What was that? "br /"Oh, nothing. Why are you here anyways? Do you need to talk to my mom about something? I'm pretty sure she's out at the supermarket, we were out of cocoa pops." That was why I was eating museli this morning. I personally hate musli, so I had tried to spice it up a bit with the raspberries, but that unfortunately didn't really work. The raspberries were a bit soggy, and generally didn't improve the taste. I was very grateful for an excuse to leave my torturous meal./p
p dir="ltr" "No, actually. I needed to talk to emyou./em"br /"Why? What about? Am I in trouble? If this is about the helicarrier, it was Lila's idea."br /"What? No, I have no idea what you mean. I need you to come with me to the compound, this is not a conversation for other ears." He gave a subtle nod to the security camera in the hallway outside the door to our apartment./p
p dir="ltr" I followed him out of the corridor, down the steep spiralling metal stairway, through the front doors, and into the parking lot. Our apartment block is nothing fancy, only a sort of concrete rectangle sticking up out of the ground. Our space isn't that big, we have a kitchen-living room thing, with a sofa, oven and microwave. (My mom doesn't believe in cooking.) I have my own small bedroom, and my mom has one too. There's a cramped bathroom, but that's about it. We try to stay in low-key places so no one can find us. Only Fury knows where we live, oh, and Lila, although she's actually never been around./p
p dir="ltr" "You've brought the van." I noted. And indeed he has. There, in the carpark, sits his musty old black van which seems to be constantly breaking down. Being the head of S.H.I.E.L.D, you'd think he would be able to afford a better ride, but whenever I asked him about it his face simply twitched, with the slightest hint of a knowing smile, and he said, "Well, that would ruin the point." I had absolutely no idea what he means by that, or what emthe point /emis, but that's all he ever tells me./p
p dir="ltr" I'd just grabbed the handle, when I remembered that I should probably tell my mom where I'm going. br /"Hang on, just going to text Mom."br /I pulled out my phone, and sent a quick message. emGoing with Furry to /ememthe/emem compound. I'll be back soon/embr /Almost immediately, she responded br /emOk/emem. But be careful, and don't call him Furry to his face. I quite like you alive/embr /I tucked my phone back into the pocket of my jeans, and then hopped into the musty van./p
p dir="ltr" The drive wasn't too long. Only five minutes or so. I usserly jogged. It's one of the few ways I can get exercise in our tiny little flat. Besides, my mom still hasn't bought a car. We always use the bus, or Uber./p
p dir="ltr" I jumped out of the car as soon as we pull up in front of the building, wondering if Lila was about. I haven't seen her in just over a month. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it feels like emforever. /emI thought she was off visiting some family on her mother's side or something, I'm not really sure. I glance around the carpark, but find it disappointingly empty./p
p dir="ltr" "You looking for Lila?" Fury questioned. br /"N...no. Why would I?"br /He shot me a disbelieving look, but carried on /OK, I emcompletely /emfailed at that. Since when did I, Bethany Blaize, adopted daughter of Natasha Romanoff, emstutter?!/em Ridiculous./p
p dir="ltr" After swallowing my embarrassment, I walk swiftly into the building. My footsteps echoed in the emty halls, and they where joined my Fury's a second later. But... what is that? I heard fast tapping on the cool granite floor. Footsteps, maybe? I didn't think anything of it at first, another agent, probably. Then I relised two /One, as far as I knew, Fury and I where the only ones in the building. br /Two, they where coming right for me!br /I wheeled around just in time to be tackled to the ground with a huge bear hug./p
p dir="ltr" "Lila. Can't. emBreeth." /emI gasped. She responded by standing up, pulling me to my feet, and immersing me in yet another hug. "It's good to see you too." I remarked./p
p dir="ltr" I took a step back and took her in. She had cut her choppy brown hair shorter, so that it hung in a wonky bob at chin hight. It looks good on her. I thought that maybe she had cut it herself. She had grown a bit too, about a half inch. We were almost the same height, although I was a tiny bit taller. She definitely looked tanned, I suspected she had been spending long hours at the beach. She was wearing olive camo jacket over a hunter green tank top, her favourite colours. Her baggy faded blue jeans suited her, and her warm, brown, melted chocolate eyes sparkled in the sun. Her lips were just-/p
p dir="ltr" "Are you quite done yet, Ms Blaize?" Fury asked. I jolted back, noticing that I had been staring. br /"Um... um. Yes, sorry."br /I looked down at my feet, and I can feel the colour seeking into my cheeks. Ugh, since when have I ever emblushed?/em/p
p dir="ltr"em "Soooooooooo, /emwhere were you taking me again?" I asked Fury, fidgeting with my hands and staring at my feet. "And why is Lila involved?"br /"You'll see." Is all he said in reply. As we follow him through the hallways and up the stairs, I get a but of time to catch up with /"So, what have you been doing while I was away Anny?" She whispered to me. "Nothing much. I've been trying to convince Natasha to get me a pet of some sort, but she keeps saying our lives are too busy and our house is too small. Honestly, most of what I've been doing is missing emyou, /emLily."br /"Aww, sweet. I've missed you too! And speaking of your house, when am I emfinally /emgonna come over? I can't believe we've known eachother since we where six now, and I still haven't been over to yours. I mean, you've been to the farmhouse emtons /emof times."br /"I'm not ready for you to come over yet."br /"Arn't you going to at least emtell /emme why you don't want me coming over?"br /"That would ruin the point, wouldn't it."br /Really, I'm afraid my mom will realise that we're dating. I still haven't come out to her yet. At Lila's, there's the whole farm. We can run of into the woods together, and no one will see us. But at my apartment, there's really just my room. I've been terrified to invite Lila over ever since she officially became my girlfriend. br /"You sound like Furry!"/p
p dir="ltr" We both snickered, and Fury looked over his shoulder. "Are you two done giggling over there? You keep falling behind, and I'm on a schedule."br /"All right, all right." I both muttered, and scurried to keep up with him./p
p dir="ltr" I entered a small room, with a round table and chairs all around it, seven chairs, I noticed. Lila trailed behind me. "You want me to... sit down? " I asked Fury. All he gave was a short nod, before he existed the room. I pulled out a chair for Lila, and then one for myself, before sitting down. Lila sat next to me, one leg crossed over the other./p
p dir="ltr" "Has Furry told emyou /emwhy you're here?" I asked. "Because he's been annoyingly secretive with me." br /"What else is new?" Lila snorted. "And no, he hasn't said anything. He just told my parents that they need to drop me off here, so my dad drove me down from my grandma's early, and I hung out here for half an hour or so before you arrived. What do you think is going on?"/p
p dir="ltr" I was about to respond when the door was opened again and Fury walked in, with four kids trailing behind him. The first has wild black hair and deep stormy eyes, and there is definitely something scary about the way that she stomped into the room. She looks maybe twelve or thirteen years of age. There is also something unusual about her mouth, but I can't quite put my finger on it.../p
p dir="ltr" The next is a boy, with black shoulder length hair and green rimmed glasses. He looks timid, like he's not quite sure if he should be here, and he shuffles his feet along the ground. Another boy follows closely behind, with shirt blond hair and a baggy grey jumper. He too looks scared, and his blue eyes dart to the floor as he enters the room, like he's trying to hide behind his black glasses. Wait! I recognise him... He's Elaine and Sam's son, Steve Rogers grandson! Yes, I know it know. This is James Rogers./p
p dir="ltr" It was at a funeral, I think. Where I met him, that is. He was quite young, he couldn't have been more than six years old. And there he was, sobbing his eyes out over the death of his grandparents, Peggy and Steve. I heard that he was really close to them, and it was obvious. The boy wasem devastated. /emThat was shortly after I had been adopted by Natasha. Shortly after I thought I'd emlost /emher. Just as I found a family. We understood eachother, in a way./p
p dir="ltr" And here he was now, sitting down at a chair by this table, next to Lila, shoulders hunched just like that day long ago. The Black haired boy sat next to him, and Scary Girl next to me, but leaving one seat in between final person to come in, I /"Cassie? It's good to see you!"br /"Bethany! Hi, I haven't seen you in emages. /emYou too, Lila."br /"Hi Cassie!" Lila said. I was just about to ask her where she had been lately, when Fury shot me such a glare that I knew immediately to close my mouth. I was given the impression he wanted silence. Cassie quietly walked up to me and sat in the empty chair between me and scary girl./p
p dir="ltr" We sat around table, not a peep coming out of us, for at least five minutes. Then, a young girl came bursting through the door, closely followed by a young man, who was probably nineteen or twenty. The girl, I recognised. The boy, not so much. She was Morgan Stark, of course. Who hadn't heard of her? Only ten years old, and already beginning to take over the buisness of her deceased father, the Great Tony Stark. Morgan was a living legend./p
p dir="ltr" "You're late." Fury remarked. "Sorry." Morgan, and the other boy replied. He was okay looking, I guess. Dirty blond hair, nice eyes. But I wouldn't really know, as I never think of boys that way. They both sat down in the two remaining seats, and turned to face Fury./p
p dir="ltr" "I'm sure you're wondering why I've gathered you here today. " Fury announced. "But, before we get to that, I would like you all to introduce yourselves. " We go round the table. I learned that the black haired boy's name is Loki, and the blond long haired boy is called Peter. Scary girl is called Ænora. I know everyone else, of course./p
p dir="ltr" "Now, for the actual reason why you're all here. I'm sure that you've all heard the rumours of trouble rising, and a woman who goes by the name of 'Bubonica? And, her plans to unleash something terrible upon us all."br /We all nod rather ominously. br /"Who hasn't heard? Most people are scared to death, they think it's gonna be Thanos and The Blip all over again." Cassie said./p
p dir="ltr" I'm not sure what to think of it. My mom fought in that battle, and everyone thought she had died. emI /emthought she had died. I still don't like to think about it./p
p dir="ltr" "I'm sure alot of you have been wondering how that's going to be dealt with, now that we don't have the Avengers anymore. Well, here's the thing. We emneed/em the Avengers.
