Bumped back in time

lynnebug01 asked for a oneshot of Emma reverting back to a 3 year old state (but still being an adult) after Charming rescues her from drowning.

"No." Snow whispered, her heart shattering into a thousand tiny pieces. They had fought so hard to get back together as a family. They hadn't even begun to fight to rescue Henry from Pan's clutches. Before they'd even reached Neverland Emma had drowned saving all of them. Both Snow and Charming sat, frozen over their daughter's lifeless body, when suddenly, Emma sat up, coughing and spluttering the sea water she had consumed. The parents faced broke into relieved smiles. She was alive! Emma looked between her parents, clearly dazed and confused.

"What's happenin'" She asked. Her voice didn't sound right. Her parents, and everyone else onboard, thought her jaw had gone numb from the cold water.

"Everything's going to be ok, Emma." Charming promised his daughter, gently squeezing her shoulder. "You fell in the water. We got you out and now everything's ok." Emma didn't look any less confused.

"Why we outside in rain?" She asked. "How I fall down? Why was I in wadder with no floaties?" Emma hit them with a barrage of questions. Snow and Charming were baffled. Floaties? Emma could swim, why did she need floaties? Even if she couldn't, there was no way in Hell she'd mention using floaties in front of them, let alone anyone else on the ship.

"It seems Miss Swan bumped her head a lot harder than we anticipated." Regina interjected, clearly less than interested in the whole ordeal.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Hook asked, confused. "Has she lost all memory of travelling here? What are floaties? Is it something to save people drowning at sea?" He asked. Regina ignored him. She bent down to be eye level with Emma, who was still lying between her parents.

"Emma, do you know who I am?" She asked. Emma shook her head. This alarmed everyone else, but Regina didn't seem surprised. "What about anyone else here?" Again, Emma shook her head. "Ok, last question. Emma, how old are you?" Emma smiled at this. This question she could answer.

"Three!" She proclaimed proudly. Regina grimaced. That's what she thought. She nodded briskly, standing up again.

"The waters around these parts are infested with Pan's dark magic." She explained. "Emma bumping her head and swallowing so much has caused her to have a temporary memory fail."

"So she'll come back?" Snow asked. Regina nodded.

"I can't say when though." She told them, predicting their next question. "When we dock, it's best she stays on the ship. We don't want a giant toddler running around with Pan on the loose. Especially when Henry's life could be the price. She'll need somebody to stay with her to keep an eye on her." Regina explained. She wasn't prepared to mess around when it came to Henry. Snow and Charming shared a brief silent conversation.

"We'll take turns keeping watch over Emma and helping the rest of you search for Henry." Charming spoke for both of them. Regina nodded in agreement. She didn't really care as long as nobody got in the way of her finding her son. Meanwhile, Snow and Charming looked down at a still frightened looking Emma.

"You cold, sweetie?" Snow asked soothingly. Emma nodded.

"Why don't I help you get into some nice dry clothes then?" Snow offered. Emma nodded, letting Charming help her to her feet. She was still so shocked she didn't even notice how tall she was.

"Who are you?" Emma asked them. Snow and Charming shared another silent conversation before agreeing it was best not to answer that.

"Don't worry about that just now." Charming answered her. "Just know we'll keep you safe." He promised her. Emma was good at knowing when adults were playing make believe with her. These people weren't, so she knew she could trust them. So she took the nice lady's hand and allowed her to lead her into a small room. She still didn't really know where she was or what was going on, but she had a good feeling everything really would be ok.
