Their moment
Fangirl448 asked for a oneshot of Snow walking in on a cute daddy Charming moment from her POV.
Gues/PopPotter777t: Sorry, but that kind of thing has been done before.
Deciding to go through that door and take our daughter back before the curse was broken was not an easy one. We knew it meant potentially damning some of our friends to being cursed forever, but we couldn't leave Emma alone a moment longer. Not when she just looked so lost. We had every hope we would find a way to save everyone else. We weren't prepared to risk losing our baby again though.
It meant very swiftly leaving Storybrooke. If Regina found out we had Emma back she would stop at nothing to destroy our family once and for all. Poor girl, she was having so many changes all at once. She was having to accept that we were her real parents, and that she really would be with us for good. Then there was trying to find a stable home life for us all. We quickly found a little two bed apartment in Boston. It was nowhere near perfect, but it would do for now. Emma was struggling still. She was hardly sleeping. She was just so anxious she was going to be left again. We weren't comfortable putting her into school until she was more settled at home. So, for now, Charming had a job in a local pet store and whilst I looked for a teaching job that had a place for Emma too, I was staying at home teaching her. I know sometimes Charming struggled with the situation. It meant I was getting more one-on-one time bonding with our daughter. Time they needed too. So it was truly wonderful for me when I saw the leaps and bounds in their relationship for myself.
One evening, I was just about to check on Emma if she was sleeping (more often than not she wasn't), when I found Charming had bet me to it. I stayed at the door, just watching them.
"I don't like the dark." Emma whimpered. "I can't sleep with the dark." We both knew Emma wasn't fond of the dark, and that she used it to mask her other anxieties.
"That's why I got you this." Charming said, pulling something out of a plastic bag. I smiled. It was a little nightlight shaped like a swan: Emma's favourite animal. He plugged it in beside her bed. "Now it will never be dark for you again." Charming promised her. Emma smiled shyly. "You know, mommy didn't always like the dark either. Sometimes, she had bad dreams. I used to light a candle for her, but I think a nightlight is maybe safer." Charming explained to our daughter. This seemed to intrigue Emma.
"Could you…could you tell me a story about you and my mom before you got me?" Emma asked timidly. I saw the way that made Charming's eyes light up. Emma had never asked either of us to tell her a story before. My eyes filled with happy tears. This was a big step forward for Emma.
"Sure Em. I'd be delighted to." Charming said, turning so he was half lying on the bed too. Then, very slowly, Emma scooted over so her head was resting against her dad's arm. I nearly gasped, I saw that Charming did too. Then, a quietly slipped out to allow my husband to have this moment with our daughter privately. I smiled the whole way down the hall and into our own bedroom. Emma was clearly going to be a daddy's girl.
