A/N: Hello! I don't even know how to start

This is my first fic ever (and at the same time last one ) I never thought that I could write something at all but here we are.

I'd like to thank Stefanie for beta'ing the whole thing, my fic would certainly be less professional and less fluent without you, your suggestions were very helpful for a freshman like me

I also want to pay tribute to Mar for helping me choose the title and giving me final push to post it

And last but not least I want to dedicate this fic to Weronika (you know first of all why I started writing this), enjoy your character in this story

And to others I hope you like this story and let me know what you think :)

,,When words fail actions speak''

"Mr. Specter, can we go on?" John Scott, Specter Litt's newest client asks impatiently.

Harvey looks up from his phone which has been ringing for the fourth time now.

"Yes, yes, of course," Harvey replies, rejecting Donna's next call.

He's completely distracted, his thoughts revolving around Donna's words, the last fight in the hall, their kiss...

He's angry, furious, and contrary to what she might think, not at Donna for putting him in the only situation he didn't want to be in, but he's angry at himself. He's fucking angry because of the deeply hidden feelings that kiss had awakened in him. He thought things were slowly starting to fall into place, that he could move on with Paula, but now nothing is clear anymore and he is bloody terrified of the difficult decisions ahead of he can't take Donna's call, and not Mike's nor Paula's. He wants to be alone.

If only he didn't need to return to the office after this meeting.

Donna waits and waits, wanders restlessly around the office, she has finished her work a long time ago, even completed all the reports she has put off for a week now.

She even already unpacked her latest purchase from her lunch break retail therapy. She finally caved and got herself some AirPods.

Donna knew Harvey needed to come back to the firm for a while, she checked his calendar, even called him, which she never does when he's with a client, but she is desperate to talk to him and explain their meeting probably ended an hour ago, and given the traffic, he should have been back 15 minutes ago. Despite constantly looking up to catch him walking down the hallway, she wonders if maybe she just didn't notice him returning.

The meeting might have simply run over, but no, that's impossible. She knows it ended when scheduled, as Union Capital's CEO copied her in on an email, thanking Harvey for his advice. There must be another reason why he is not here , there could be two reasons - either he was avoiding her after their argument or he met his girlfriend for lunch. She doesn't know which option is worse.

Donna sits down on the couch, resigned, and she starts taking inventory of her life.

"I'm here at the office, after eight on a Friday afternoon, no one is waiting for me at home, Harvey hates me, and my love life doesn't exist." She knows she could call Rachel but she doesn't want to burden her friend with her problems. So instead, she turns up the music on her new headphones and starts writing her resignation letter. She doesn't see a point in staying at the firm when Harvey treats her like she doesn't exist. She is so engrossed in writing, and her own thoughts, that she doesn't hear the fire alarm or the screaming crowd of people. Only after a while, she starts to smell a strange odor but she brushes it aside, explaining to herself that Louis must have received a new tea from some unpronounceable country.

She doesn't feel like herself anymore, she doesn't see the danger. Her intuition and anticipation don't work. She finishes the last paragraph on the letter and then she finally looks up. Paralyzed and with wide eyes, she sees smoke and a large flame of fire slowly moving towards her...

She doesn't hesitate any longer and runs towards the exit, but at the last moment, right next to the stairs, she stops and starts to think about Harvey. He may have returned to the office after all, and it worries can't help it, she won't forgive herself if she doesn't check. She needs to check if he's there. So she changes her route and heads towards his office. As she runs, she sees the office burning down, the archive room where she used to make copies for Harvey on fire, she sees her old desk on fire, and finally, her gaze falls into his office. His records are burning, all the documents, all his hard work is going up in flames. Donna can't look at it any longer. The smoke and memories make the tears run down her face.

She remembers all her years with Harvey. She's well aware of the fact that this is her whole life and seeing how the fire is destroying everything, makes her even more aware of what she is losing. It is a literal metaphor for her to catch one last look at the office, she notices something else this time - his mother's painting. Donna freezes. She knows how long it tookHarvey to go to re-establish contact with his mother, how much this picture means to him.

Without realizing it, Donna begins to direct her steps towards the office, decides to protect this painting at all costs. She has already failed as a friend by kissing him and she will not make this mistake a second for shards of glass she walks through the door and tries to reach the picture without the fire getting to her. She has managed to get the picture off one hook and tries the other as she feels a burning sensation on her left foot. She looks down and sees her Louboutins covered in smoke. She quickly kicks them off her feet and mentally curses herself for ignoring all those fire safety lessons. She has no idea where the fire extinguishers are and she doesn't know how to get out of here.

She gets up on her tiptoes one last time and grasps the painting and jumps over the burning fragments of the floor. She is terrified when she sees that the fire has spread over almost the whole floor isn't able to go downstairs, tackling fifty floors barefoot in a fire wouldn't have been a good idea anyway, but the way to the staircase is blocked either has one way out - the elevator. She doesn't think about it any longer and runs towards the lobby. Pressing the down button, 10 seconds pass without anything happening. Standing there, she is more and more aware of the hopelessness of the situation she is in.

The possible outcome of it is running through her head now. The elevator will not come, she will not manage to go down the stairs, no one will save her as no one has any idea that she has stayed here. Donna is ready to break down crying she hears the elevator doors open, she lets out a loud sob in relief. She jumps in and presses the ground floor button. Surprisingly, the elevator begins its descent. With bated breath, holding the painting under her arm, Donna watches as the numbers on the display are counting down. They are already on 16, 15, 14, 13, 12 and then the elevator stops abruptly. Donna and the painting fall to the floor, she feels as if the world has stopped, she feels sick, her whole body is freezing and her bare feet are bleeding from the pieces of glass that punctured them. Her head is spinning, everything around her begins to fade, and from that moment on, she no longer hears or sees is unconscious and all alone.

"We're almost there," Ray says.

Harvey doesn't reply, silently staring down the road, his thoughts far away as he slowly starts to hear the sounds of ambulances, the police, and the fire sees the company building, hundreds of people milling in front of it. And then it gets to him - feels the first symptoms of panic, his hands begin to tremble as he rushes out of the car and takes out his loosens his tie with one hand and the other presses the phone to his ear to listen to the voicemail.

"Harvey, I know you're in the meeting and I'm sorry to call you but I want to clear up our argument. I'm waiting for you at the office."

Not possible, he thinks. She must have left the building. He repeats it to himself in his mind as he listens to the next message.

"I know you have to come back. I'll be waiting here until you show up, please. We need to talk."

No, no it can't be happening.

If only he had picked up that damn phone call, she wouldn't have had to wait for him. Why must he always be such a fool?He must find her, wherever she starts running among the crowd of people when he spots Mike standing with the others from his floor.

"Where is she," he asks, panicked.

"Harvey, good you are here. There was an alarm and an evacuation…," Louis begins his speech, but Harvey does not even listen to him. He turns towards Mike.

"Where is Donna?" he screams as beads of sweat begin to run down his face.

"Harvey, I don't know where she is. Everyone ran out and…," Mike starts to explain.

"And no one of you fucking thought to check where she is?" he asks in frustration.

"We…," Rachel starts.

"If I had been there, nothing would have happened to her. I would have made sure she was safe, how could you leave her there?"

Seeing he will get nowhere with his friends, he implements another plan. He starts screaming her name, "Donna, Donna," but it's nothing with the sirens and street instead, he starts walking towards the building entrance without thinking.

"Harvey, what are you doing? Harvey come back here. Harvey!" Mike shouts after him, confused.

Harvey, however, only looks at the policemen securing the scene, and when he sees that one of them look away, he dugs under the tapes and runs into the building.

He makes his way to the stairs and intends to run all the way up, but the combination of smoke and the lack of air in his lungs makes him need to rest for a while on the 20th floor. Thinking she might have sought refuge in one of the other offices, he enters the floor yelling her name, hoping that she may hear him and answer.

Donna is lying on the floor of the elevator, weak, humming in her head, when she hears someone's voice in the doesn't recognize the voice, but she wants to answer it so badly. She takes a deep breath when she hears the same voice closer and then realizes she knows that voice. Harvey.

With the rest of the strength she has in her, she decides to shout his name. "Harvey!"

Harvey stops by the elevator. He thinks he heard Donna's voice but is that even possible? Had he imagined it?Right then he hears her voice again, clearly coming from the elevator shaft.

"Donna. Donna, can you hear me? I am here. I will call for help. Everything will be fine, don't be afraid, I am with you," he repeats frantically.

Donna hears Harvey's terrified voice but is unable to make any sound.

Meanwhile, Harvey mobilizes firefighters and medics to come with him to the 20th floor in less than three begin to stem the door open, which after a while of working on it bears fruit and the door runs over to them immediately, but looking past the doors, all he can see is empty space, but when he looks down, he finally sees it. The lift has stopped a few stories below.

"We have to open the door further down," he says firmly.

"We don't know which floor it is on, we have to go one by one, Sir," one of the firefighters replies.

"It will take too long," Harvey says, in a choked voice.

"We swear that we will do everything we can to get her out of this as quickly as possible,"one of the firemen promises, putting a reassuring hand on Harvey's shoulder.

"Open up the 12th floor," he says firmly.

"What?" the fireman asks.

"Start by opening the door on the damn 12th floor. Do I have to pay you to do it? What do you want?" he now screams helplessly.

The firefighters look among themselves and then look down into the shaft again. After a short moment, their boss says, "We open the 12."

Harvey looks at him gratefully.

The team works efficiently on the lower door and once the metal gives way, Harvey's eyes fall on a terrible is lying limp on the floor, her clothes all smudged with smoke, her feet streaked with shards of glass. She looks so closer inspection, he notices his mother's painting next to Donna. He wonders about it for a moment but then brushes all thoughts aside. It is not important at all right now.

Before the medics can decide which one of them will get Donna, he is already by her side. That's all he can do for her now. He reaches out for her, placing one hand under her arms and the other under her legs, and lifts her gently. Harvey can't help thinking how complete he feels. Her head resting on his shoulder fits perfectly, her body pressed against his makes him feel like he can finally breathe again. All the quarreling and fighting of the past few days is forgotten. All that matters is that she's okay. Because he can't live without her, she's his whole world, his need to talk, talk a lot, but first, she must get better. So he gently puts her on the stretcher and lets the doctors do their job.

He feels guilty that he allowed something bad to happen to her, and he is on the verge of a panic attack himself as he watches the paramedics take care of Donna on a stretcher, shouting among themselves to give her oxygen can barely nod his head when the doctor asks if he is going with them in the ambulance, and then the whole world stops, he feels dizzy and faints.

Harvey slowly opens his eyes and the only thing he sees is white. He blinks a few times to stop the blurriness and then realizes he's in a hospital starts looking around and sees a doctor and Mike standing by his latest events are slowly reaching his brain. The fire, the elevator, Donna.

"Well, you're finally awake, that's a good sign. Your vitals look good..." the doctor begins the standard procedure.

"What about Donna?Mike, what about her?" Harvey asks anxiously, disregarding his own situation.

"We do not know yet, they took her for some tests to check her lungs, the doctor said that he would let us know when they are finished," Mike replies.

"I have to see her," Harvey says firmly and starts to get out of bed.

"Mr. Specter, please lie down," the doctor commands.

"Harvey, listen to the doctor. As soon as I know something about Donna, I'll let you know," Mike pleads with his friend.

"All I had was a panic attack and I am about to have another one if I can't go to her, so please detach this drip", he says frustrated, pointing his hand towards the doctor.

"Okay, do as you like but it's your own risk," the doctor replies, pulling out the drip from Harvey's arm.

Harvey starts walking towards the door as the doctor calls him back, "You still need to get discharged."

"Mike will take care of it," he quickly replies, looking towards the younger man and seeing Mike nod in agreement. He goes out into the hallway and realizes he has no idea where Donna is, so he finds the reception desk and completely out of breath asks for her. "Donna Paulsen?"

Being on the phone and typing on her computer, the receptionist ignores Harvey.

"I am asking where Donna Paulsen is. She was brought here today from the fire at 601 Lexington," he says firmly, tearing the phone out of the woman's hand.

"Yes, yes. She is still undergoing tests, as far as I can see, you will go to room D4," she replies, terrified of the man before her.

Harvey gives her the phone back and goes to look for Wing D. Helplessly, he looks around as he notices a young girl in the hall. "Excuse me, can you tell me where room D4 is? It's a matter of life or death."

Weronika looks at the breathless man in shock. He looks a complete mess and his eyes shine with pure panic. Being able to help him, she doesn't hesitate for a second. "Yes, I know where it is. I can show you there."

Harvey looks at her gratefully as he follows her lead. But as the two minutes pass, he gets impatient. "Can we run there?"

"Run?" she asks surprised.

"Yes, to get there faster," Harvey says as if it is the most natural thing in the world.

Confused, Weronika nods yes and they start running he runs into the last hallway and sees Rachel and Louis, he forgets the girl who brought him here. He might have even lost her along the way.

He comes up to his colleagues and asks if there are any news about Donna.

"We don't know yet. We've been sitting here for three hours," replies a worried Rachel.

Harvey sits down next to them and they wait together. First one and then two hours pass in which they hear doesn't say a word the whole time, he just clenches his fists and everyone can see how worried he is.A voice snaps him out of his thoughts.

"Here you are. I finally found you. I was so worried," Paula says, sounding sincerely upset, touching Harvey all over, making sure he is safe and sound.

"I'm fine. But Donna is here fighting for her life," he replies, resigned.

"You could have called at least. I was so scared for you. You were in the hospital, they had to examine you…," Paula starts.

"Fucking hell, Paula, I'm fine. Either shut up and be quiet or go home," he shouts frustrated.

Paula looks at him in surprise but says nothing and just sits down next to him.

"Maybe I can get you something to eat or drink?" she asks timidly.

"I don't need anything," he says angrily.

Paula nods and tries to grab Harvey's hand but he pushes her doesn't seem to be concerned that his friends witness his frustration with can console him except to see Donna alive and well.

Finally, after another hour, the doctor comes out and asks, "Donna Paulsen's family?"

"Yes, that's us," Harvey replies without thinking twice about it. For all intent and purposes, they were Donna's family. He was Donna's family.

"Ms. Paulsen stayed near the smoke for an extended period of time, so we were worried about the condition of her lungs. We managed to stabilize it, but we are still giving her oxygen to help her breathe. Her body is weak and we also detected a concussion, fortunately, nothing that will have a lasting impact. Her right ankle is dislocated and her feet are strongly wounded, so you will have to help her walk for some time," the doctor explains.

"Of course, I will take care of everything. I will help her," Harvey says to the doctor, ignoring Paula's wide eyes at his statement.

"Harvey, what the hell are you talking about? Donna has parents and surely some other friends will take care of her, you don't have to look after her out of pity," Paula says firmly.

"Don't bother me while I talk to the doctor," he tells her.

"Harvey, please don't raise your voice when you speak to me," Paula replies.

"Will you fucking stop? I don't look after Donna out of pity, I'm worried about her because I care about her. And since you arrived, you have not once asked how Donna is doing! Why are you even here if you don't care? And instead of being helpful, now you are just disturbing us! "Harvey shouts at her.

"Well, I didn't mean it like that, but I care about you and you need to look after yourself first. Now that you know that Donna is fine, come home with me, wash up, eat and come back tomorrow," she tries to convince Harvey.

"I'm not going anywhere, and the only way for me to leave this hospital is when I leave with Donna," he says, increasingly pissed off.

"She's just your goddamn secretary, why are you so worried about her? Either you leave with me now or I leave and it's over, " Paula screams in frustration.

Her words made Harvey even angrier.

"You're insane," he replies shortly.

"What are you talking about?" she asks confused and shocked.

"I said you're insane for giving me such an ultimatum because I will always choose Donne, no matter the situation. I will always choose her because I know that she would also choose me above all else. And us? This relationship... You know everything about me from therapy and I know nothing about you. And I'll tell you that I don't want to know anything more about you or ever see you again. We never had a future because I never cared about you the way I care for Donna. So it's over for me Paula. And I don't know how you can be such a bad therapist that you couldn't foresee it," Harvey summed up.

Paula said nothing, but she was openly crying. Mike and Rachel looked at it all in amazement, but most surprised was the doctor who was unable to utter another word.

When she has gathered herself enough to react, Paula turned and started to run towards the exit. When she comes around the corner, she doesn't notice Weronika with a cup of coffee in her hand. She only hears a loud splash, looks down at her soaked clothes, and then runs away.

"Doctor, can I see her? "Harvey asks completely calm as if the whole argument hadn't affected him at all.

"For today we will keep her in the ICU, but if she gets better tomorrow, you can be with her," the doctor explains shortly and quickly leaves, still shocked by the quarrel he witnessed.

Harvey silently walks to the window through which Donna can be seen. The sight of her so vulnerable and weak hurt him greatly.

"Harvey, we're gonna go home and be back in the morning, if something happens, call me, okay?" Mike asks him.

Harvey just nods as he keeps his eyes on Donna's bed.

He doesn't know how long he is standing there, watching her breathe. It could have been an hour or two before he decides to sit on a bench on the opposite wall and starts thinking about everything that has happened in the last 24 hours. There are so many things he would like to discuss with her, that he would like to tell her, he just hopes that he will get the chance.

Harvey is still sitting on the bench as Weronika approaches him.

"I guess I forgot to thank you for your navigation," says Harvey shyly.

"I think so, but you also lost something else along the way," she replies, handing him his wallet.

"I didn't even notice that I don't have it, thank you a second time then."

"Have you eaten something?" she asks him.

Harvey looks at her questioningly.

"I am asking because you have been here for a while and didn't have any money. I have food that I can share if you want. I always bring too much and otherwise it will be wasted," she says with a smile.

Harvey nods in agreement, and the nurse returns in a short moment later with the bag of food.

She was about to leave when she asked him, "Is she your wife?"

"No, she's my…," Harvey tries to answer, not finding the right words to explain their relationship.

"Don't say anything. A complicated situation?" Weronika asks.

"Yes, you can say that," he replies, smiling when looking up at the window separating them.

"Judging by the way you look at her, I can tell that you care about her."

"I do. Donna is the most important person in my life. I just made a lot of mistakes and I don't know how to fix them now. I hurt her," Harvey explains bluntly.

"It's simple really. You can't change the past, but you can do your best to make the future better if you care so much about her." Weronika leaves and disappears somewhere in the corridor and Harvey doesn't even have time to thank her again.

Harvey doesn't know how long he's been in the hospital now, only that he was finally allowed to sit next to Donna's bed and touch wants to grab her hand so badly, but it doesn't feel right when they aren't even talking at the managed to talk to Donna's parents and promised them that he would keep them updated on her condition. He got to know all the nurses who take care of her and all of them assumed that Donna was his wife. He never corrected them. He also talked to Louis, who said that he had found another building for the firm, but he simply couldn't concentrate on work right now. He doesn't have the strength to look for new furniture and argue whether an acacia or oak-colored desk would be better.

Instead, he sat with Donna day and night telling her silly stories, hoping she would hear him and wake up.

And as he was reading a book inthe armchair one day, he hears a soft immediately walks over to her bed and hopes for some positive signs.

Her eyes slowly open and her gaze lingers on can tell that she is panicking and trying to speak, so he decides to stop her.

He gently grabs her hand, rubbing his thumb over hers, not even expecting how such a small gesture can feel so meaningful.

"Hey, don't say anything, you're in the hospital but everything's fine now," Harvey says quietly.

"I…," Donna tries to say, but her lips refuse to form a sentence.

Harvey sees her struggling, so he picks up the oxygen mask and gently wets her mouth with water, which seems to help because Donna manages to say, "Sorry."

Harvey looks at her in disbelief, raising his hand to her cheek and putting a stray curl behind her ear. "You have absolutely nothing to apologize for. I know we have so much to talk about but we'll do it when you get better. I'm here and I'm not going anywhere," he says in the soft tone that he uses only for her. "And now I will get the doctor to tell them you are awake. I will be right back." He leaves but not before placing a kiss on her forehead.

Donna is left alone, confused by Harvey's tenderness. He is not angry with her any longer. But why? He was furious when they last talked. What happened? She can't make any sense of it but she is also too sleepy to think about it any further. She falls asleep thinking how good it felt to hold his hand and that she definitely wishes it will happen again.

The next few days pass by quickly. With new guests visiting her every now and then, Donna is actually never alone for more than 10 minutes. The doctor says the treatment is going in the right direction and he will probably let her go home tomorrow if someone looking after her there. She doesn't know if anyone will take care of her, her parents have already left, she doesn't want to burden Mike and Rachel with her problems, Louis is Louis and Harvey...

Things with Harvey are good actually. He comes by every day, he brings her whatever she asks for, they talk about stupid things, and he even confessed that he allowed her parents to stay in his apartment. The only thing they didn't talk about is the most important thing. The kiss, Paula, and what happened while she was trapped in the elevator. She has already talked to Rachel about it and she knows it was Harvey who found her. If it weren't for him, she probably wouldn't be here now. She needs to talk to him, no matter what happens after this conversation. And she thought of it at just the right moment because Harvey had just entered her room.

"Hey, I bought you those crackers you talked about," he says enthusiastically, placing her shopping bag on her table and kissing her cheek.

She greets him with a shy, "Hey," and continues listening as he lively talks about an argument he had with Louis about his choice of lamps.

"Harvey, can we talk?" she interrupts him, grabbing his arm.

"What do you mean? We're talking right now," he replies cheerfully.

"But not about what happened…," Donna says quietly.

"Oh. Okay," he replies anxiously, feeling his hands begin to sweat. "What do you want to know?"

"Hey, don't stress," Donna tells him when she realizes how tense he has gotten. It is also a good way to find some courage herself. "Why don't I start? I want to apologize to you for putting you in the only situation you never wanted to be in. I'm sorry for kissing you when you are in a relationship with someone else, and then being angry at how you reacted," she says quietly.

"Donna, Paula and I aren't together anymore. It's over," Harvey explains.

"Did you break up because of me?" she asks, terrified.

"No. I mean yes. I mean no. Your stay here and the thought that I might have lost you, the fact that I saw you unconscious in that elevator, made me realize how much I care about you. I can't be me without you. For too long, I haven't been able to find the right words to tell you how important you are to me, but everyone around us has already seen it. I want to be able to tell you..." His voice breaks.

"Tell me what?"

"Paula was a mistake. I chickened out when you told me you wanted more. I should have never been with her. And this kiss, I was so angry, even furious but not at you, but at myself," he confesses in a muffled voice.

"How's that on you?" Donna asks, being on the verge of tears.

"I was angry at how much this kiss had affected me, at the fact that it had awakened all those feelings for you that I couldn't cope with. God, Donna, I hurt you. I made so many mistakes." He now has tears in his eyes.

"We both made mistakes," she replies, crying as well now.

"Donna, I love you. In all the ways. And I don't want to hide my feelings for you any longer. I want you to be the person I wake up to in the morning and to fall asleep in my arms. I want to share the good and bad news with you. I want to tell you everything. I want to hold your hand and go on dates. But most importantly, I just want to be with you from now on and forever. You would have all of me. What do you say?" Harvey rattles on emotionally, fearing Donna's reaction.

"Harvey, I …," she tries to say but she is crying too hard for words to come out.

"Donna please don't cry, tell me what I can do," he asks desperately, wanting to stop her sobbing.

"Just hug me, you idiot," she replies quickly.

Harvey immediately sits down on the bed and puts his arm around her. Donna cuddles into him and neither one is surprised by how perfectly they fit together. It doesn't take long until Harvey feels Donna relaxing into him and then she says quietly, "I love you, too."

"You really...?" he asks in amazement.

Then Donna decides to exchange words for deeds and closes the gap between them by kissing him with everything she has, pouring all the suppressed emotions into that kiss. They kiss once, twice, three times, relishing in the possibility of kissing just like that from now on.

"May I ask you one more question," Harvey says in between their kisses.

"Sure, keep asking while my painkillers are still working," she jokes.

She must look terrible now, without makeup, crying in the hospital bed, staining his T-shirt with tears, but he still looks at her as if she hung up the moon.

"Okay," he chuckles. "So when we found you in the elevator there was my mom's painting next to you. Why?"

Donna takes a deep breath before speaking.

"When I saw the office burn down, I felt that I had to save this painting. I know how much it means to you," she explains in a trembling voice.

Harvey starts rubbing his hand gently against her back to console her.

"Donna, the picture is important to me, but I thought you already knew—" he stops himself.

"Knew what? "Donna asks him.

"That you are the most important thing in my life," he finally confesses calmly before silencing the rest of her thoughts with a deep kiss.

A few days later

"I'm home," Harvey calls out as he walks into the apartment and puts his groceries on the kitchen counter.

"Great. Guess where I am? Yes, I'm still in bed, you guessed correctly," Donna replies sarcastically.

Harvey is well aware of her frustration and dissatisfaction, but the doctor specifically said that she should rest and walk as little as possible. So Harvey is going to follow the doctor's orders and Donna does too. But not without complaining, of course. Either way, he doesn't mind because the sight of her in his Harvard sweatshirt lying in his bed does something to him.

"We know very well it's for your own good, so you don't have to complain like that. Besides, I bought your favorite ice cream," he says with a smile, bending down to kiss her.

"Chunky Monkey?" Donna asks excitedly

"Of course," he replies, raising his eyebrows, questioning her questioning him.

"You're an idiot," she says, laughing.

"But you love me anyway," he replies, pleased that he managed to cheer her up.

"Uhh, shut up now."

And so he does by getting closer to her and giving her a proper kiss.

"Wait here, I have something for you," says Harvey excitedly and disappears back into the main room.

After a moment, he comes back, hiding something behind his back. He reaches down to her and puts the object into her hands.

"How?" she asks, looking at the can opener in amazement.

"I was there today. A lot of things burned, but I found our can opener survived." He sits next to her on the bed with a smile, putting his arm around her.

"It's downright amazing."

"Maybe. But I think this untouched can opener is a metaphor for our relationship," he says, proud of what he came up with.

"Why so?" she asks, clearly amused by his smug grin.

"Because our love for each other is the same as that can opener in a fire - nothing can destroy it," he explains, kissing a clearly stunned Donna on the temple.

"Damn, Specter, you can be romantic," she tells him, wiping a stray tear from her eye.

"I just love you," he tells her honestly.

"I love you too, Harvey."

THE END
