Investigation

A guest asked for a oneshot of the FBI finding out about Emma and taking her to run tests. It's up to Snowing to save the day. Set some time after season 4.

"So you're telling me that a black car just pulled up out of nowhere and demanded Emma go with them?" Snow asked Grumpy, looking for some reasonable explanation. Grumpy nodded.

"Well, yeah. They pulled up outside of the station and got out. It was two guys, both wearing suits and sunglasses. Emma was about to pull out her gun, it's not like we get many strangers in town. But they got to her first and one of them whispered something in her ear. I didn't catch any of it. All I know is whatever it was scared the wits out of Emma because she put her gun away and got in the back of their car. I watched as far as I could. Looked like they left town." Grumpy told the now panicking parents. "As soon as I lost the car I came and got you both."

Charming and Snow shared worried expressions. This wasn't like Emma. Emma didn't just leave town with strangers. They'd obviously threatened her.

"We need to find her, now." Charming said. "We'll drop Neal off with Red and Granny."

"How can you find her though? Magic won't work out of town." Grumpy pointed out.

"Fortunately, Emma and Henry didn't grow up in a world of magic." Snow said, pulling out her phone. "With all the villains in town, Emma insisted we all got trackers in our phones. I'm betting that's why she went so easily. They won't know we can follow."

Meanwhile…

Emma had no idea where she was. As soon as she was over the town line, she had been blindfolded. Apparently, these men didn't want Emma to know where the nearest FBI headquarters were. That's what the man had quickly told her. He'd informed her they were agents for the FBI, and knew all about her family situation. Indeed, the whole town's. If she didn't come with them quietly now, they would ensure her little brother was removed into protective custody. Refusing to allow her brother to grow up like she had, Emma of course went without a fight.

She soon learned asking questions would do her no good. She had tried to find out where she was going and why they wanted her, what had she even done? No matter what they asked though, Emma's only answer was silence. So she soon shut up, her heart hammering in her chest. Would she ever see her family again? Would the people in Storybrooke stay safe and remain hidden from the rest of the world, even if the authorities knew of their existence? Would they keep to their word and leave Neal with her parents since she went with them? All these questions and more raced through Emma's mind.

Eventually, the car stopped. Emma was informed they had now reached their destination and Emma should remain calm and co-operative. Otherwise things might not be so pleasant. Emma didn't feel she had much choice. She was led in, still blindfolded, to a plain room. All there was inside was a small table with one chair on one side and two on the other. Emma blinked in the harsh light of the room. She didn't feel comfortable at all. Why had they taken her? She was led to the side of the table with only one chair and sat down. Her legs were shaking so much she was surprised she'd made it this far without collapsing. She bit her lip nervously, waiting for one of the men to speak.

"Are you Emma Swan?" he asked simply. Emma nodded. "Audibly." He ordered.

"Yes." Emma croaked. "Yes, I'm Emma Swan." She complied. "What is all this about?"

"For the last three years you have resided either in Storybrooke, Maine or New York City?" The other man asked, ignoring Emma's question. Emma had a feeling if she ignored their questions they wouldn't be so forgiving. Emma sighed in frustration.

"Yes." She answered them.

"Storybrooke Maine was created in the year of your birth by Regina Mills, also known as the Evil Queen. Can you confirm this?"

"Yes." Emma answered, her irritability growing with every strange question.

"For twenty eight years it remained stationary, with no residents aging." One of the men continued. "Then you broke her curse with your shared son and restored both normal aging and magic?"

"Yes, I did. I get it. You've been all Big Brother on Storybrooke. You know magic exists. I think it's fair to say we've kept it quiet. I don't see why you felt the need to threaten my baby brother and drag me all the way out here." Emma demanded, finally having enough. One of the men pulled a picture out from his jacket and slid it across to Emma. She looked down and saw it was her with her hands glowing after interviewing the Snow Queen. How did they even get this?

"We have reason to believe that you conduct magic yourself, Miss Swan. Magic that appears to be uncontrolled and dangerous." He put it to her. Emma felt her stomach drop. She'd seen enough sci-fi movies to know what happened next.

"My magic is in control now. Besides, I can't use it outside of Storybrooke." Emma defended herself. Not that the two men showed any change in emotion. They both stood up.

"Be that as it may, we're going to need you to come with us, Miss Swan. We have some tests we need to conduct to better understand your genetic makeup and how your magic works." Emma didn't budge.

"I have magic because my parents share true love. It doesn't work anymore but Storybrooke and the Enchanted Forest. That's all your people need to know. Take me home." Emma ordered. The men clearly weren't going to listen.

"We can't do that." Emma was told. "Now, you can either come with us quietly, or we can make other arrangements." He threatened her. Emma frantically looked around her for an exit. How was she going to get out of this one? One of the men sighed, seeing that Emma wasn't going to come easy. He approached her, pulling out a syringe from his pocket. Emma screamed. She tried to scramble to her feet and away from whatever drug they were about to pump her full of. The man grabbed Emma's arm and plunged the needle in. He had only pushed it halfway down when suddenly, one of the men yelped in pain, an arrow sticking out of his arm. As the man with the syringe in Emma's arm turned around, an arrow was launched into his own arm. Before either man could take out their weapons, they collapsed to the floor.

"Nobody is taking her anywhere." Charming growled. Emma's head felt fuzzy. She registered that it was her parents who had come in, with her mom shooting both the men with her bow and arrow, but that was about it. She wanted to get up and go to them, but she couldn't make her legs move. Emma didn't need to though, they came to her. Snow grabbed and pocketed the syringe so that whatever was inside could be tested when they got Emma back to Storybrooke and straight to the hospital.

"Neal." Emma said, her voice coming out slurred.

"He's back home, safe." Charming promised Emma as he scooped her up. "Looks like we got here just in time." He commented to Snow. Neither wanted to think what could have happened. Snow took Emma's face in her hands.

"We're going to get you home and have Whale find out what they've done to you. Then you're not leaving our sight for a very long time." Snow told her. She couldn't believe someone had just taken Emma away right from under their noses. Both she and Charming vowed there and then that it would never happen again.
