Train to the capital.

I am sitting in the living room of the train waiting for the reaping highlights to begin. Tallie sits beside on the couch her eyes still red from crying but she is doing well to try and hide it, Evan sits in one of the armchairs fidgeting with his hands, Jelame sits still, staring at the T.V but I knew thousands of thoughts where rushing through his head I wish I knew what the where, Bexie stood in the doorway trying to fix her bright pink wig that she had put on for the capital (She always changes her clothes when going from district to capital she knows how different the fashion senses are.) and I sat on the couch tightly griping the a pen in one hand and a notebook in the other. You could cut the tension with a knife. I wanted the recaps to begin so my thoughts could focus on something else than the outburst Tallie had about Finch. I was about to ask her if she knew my sister well when the recaps begun. I am glad they begun then because it would have been a mistake to ask her about my sister considering she broke down in tears at the sight of me.

Caesar Flickerman begins talking to his guest, a tall capital woman with a voice so high pitched that it hurts my ears. I am no paying attention to them I just write down all the districts so I can start taking notes on the tributes. After a few minutes of talking the recaps begin.

District one: Two keen volunteer that are both eighteen and about three times the size of me, no surprises there.

District two: Again two people volunteer but I see that they give each other a slight smile. I make a note that they know each other and to try use that to my advantage.

District three- A sixteen year old girl is picked although she is skinny I can tell she is smart. A fifteen year old boy is chosen he looks weak I don't know if will last that long but I have learnt never to judge by physical appearance. District three is known to be smart like us so I take a note of that.

District four- Another two volunteers, I am surprised that the girl looks only sixteen. I make a note that she must be very strong or very smart if they decide she could volunteer that young.

I skip district five because that is my district.

District six- A strong looking seventeen year old girl is chosen and a skinny fourteen year old boy. I notice that girl has a long scar down her face, I wonder what that is from.

District seven- A tall thirteen year old girl is chosen I am very surprised by how much she looks like Gabriella. She has the same dark skin, the same straight shoulder length hair, similar blue eyes and is even wearing a similar dress to the one Gabriella wore to reaping. Her eyes fill with tears as she steps onto the stage. She does not cry but she shakes and has to sit down in one of the seats on the stage, I feel so bad for her often I forget some people aren't as good at acting as I am.

The boy tribute looks about fifteen he looks a bit nervous but does well to hide it.

District eight- a boy who is sixteen the girl is fifteen

District nine- the girl is sixteen she's from district nine and they are normal very healthy, the boy is seventeen.

District ten- Something about the look in the fifteen year old eyes tells me she has been through a lot. The boy is sixteen and looks very strong.

District eleven- a eighteen year old girl and sixteen year old boy.

District twelve- both of the tributes are sixteen.

When the recaps are finally over I close my notebook and to try calm me down I run my finger along the rock on my necklace Finch gave me. when I reach the bottom my heart stops. I feel a dent in it. The one Finch left when I thought Finch came into the room. She told me it was to show that the meeting was real. I shake of the thought and tell myself that I just didn't notice it before.

"Dinner is ready!" Bexie exclaims gesturing us to follow her. We walk through the corridor where the train entrance is and into another door. Behind the door is a massive dining room with five seats around a big round table that is full of food.

"Dig in!" She screams and grabs a plate and puts loads of food on it. I can't help but smile I love that she is not like other people from the capital who are obsessed with table manners. Instead she just eats whatever she want, whenever she wants. I am glad we have her instead of being stuck with some uptight, manner obsessed capital freak.

I grab a plate and grab whatever food I can. I grew up in a very big family completed with six boys; if you didn't eat fast you didn't eat.

I look at a bowl of weird slimy looking things.

"Their slugs." Tallie tells me.

"Eww." I say pushing the bowl away from me. Although I wouldn't say no to a slug in the arena I can afford to be a bit choicer in the capital.

"I know." Tallie says looking suspiciously at the bowl. "The capital eats weird things."

"Hey!" Bexie says with her mouth half full of food she clasps a hand over her mouth and starts to blush from embarrassment. After ten seconds she bursts out laughing and so does every one else.

I finish dinner just as I see an avox walks into the room. Bexie sees him he holds up a sign that says we have arrived, Bexie nods and signals him away. She straightens her wig, adjusts her dress and puts on a big over enthusiastic smile.

"Okay kids we are in the capital, big smiles and lots of waves. They are going to love you!" Bexie says walking out of the cart. We all follow but Tallie grabs my arm and pulls me back into the room.

"Don't listen to Bexie. Try looking like you did at the reaping: sly, cunning and mysterious. Obviously don't look at the capital like they are your competition, you want the capital to like you so give them some smiles and small waves but be cunning." I nod, I understand what she means.

I let down my hair and look in the mirror. I smile ever so slightly. I take a deep breath and suddenly I am not Faye anymore I am the mysterious little girl from district five.

I walk out of the room and before the doors open and I am blinded by flashing cameras Tallie gives me a smile and that smile makes me know I can do this.
