A/N: Hey I'm back again with another oneshot, though this is more a collection of moments across time, be aware that I believe that BOTW takes place in the Downfall timeline, and while I respect people who think differently I am not going to change my view.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything and be aware that much like last time there is very heavily referenced Oot Link x Navi.
So, enjoy the story!
"LINNNNK" was all that was heard, as a green clothed body dropped to the ground and a sacred bond shattered between a boy and his fairy.
Then a great Dark Shadow of a beast loomed over a mere little fairy and princess…
Then sequestered away from Hyrule in an unremarkable tree in depths of the Lost Woods, Navi woke up from repeated nightmares that plagued her, the failed Guardian. She remembered how the final battle with Ganon had gone after her charge had fallen. As well as all that had occurred since.
Zelda and the sages were able to seal Ganon, but due to him gaining the Triforce of Courage as well as Power, it was only a matter of time until he broke out again, and when he did a vast war broke out that resulted in Ganon gaining Wisdom as well. Fortunately, when this occurred the Seven Wise Men, spiritual successors of the Seven Sages were able to seal him again in the Sacred Realm. That war was then known as the Imprisoning War.
Throughout all this Navi had hid away from the world of Hyrule, wracked with feelings of grief over her failure to protect her charge, the boy that she had come to care for so much.
All she was, and most likely would ever be, was a failed Guardian.
It had been many years more.
A new hero had risen to the challenge and fought and slew Ganon when her broke the seal once more. Since then, Hyrule had started to enter a golden age. It was during this time the Navi returned from her self-imposed exile to the land.
When she did she was summoned by the Fairy Queen Venus.
She arrived at the 'Palace' of the Fey Queen, which wasn't really a set structure but was a combination of nature and structures that combined to form a mystical and magical centre to the Fey Otherworld.
"Why have you summoned me, My Queen?" Navi had asked, when she arrived in Venus' chamber, the magical nexus of the Otherworld.
"Navi my faithful subject, while I let you lie in exile until you felt you could return, now that you have you must embrace the next part of your destiny," Venus responded.
"And what may that be, My Queen?" Navi promptly asked.
"You are to become a Great Fairy, one that is head of a new Court."
Navi was shocked by the answer.
Too shocked to even respond.
Then the powers of the Queen flowed into Navi's spirit and form, and she felt herself becoming bigger and more powerful.
Now despite her previous beliefs she was a Great Fairy.
Through the Lorule Crisis, the end of the Golden Age, and the return and subsequent vanquishing of Ganon, Navi had watched it all. As a Great Fairy she had aided many heroes and eased their pain whenever they visited her fountain, and they all reminded her of the hero that she had adored.
It was sometime during the age post the time of the Hero of Hyrule who rescued the dual Zelda's, that she was once again summoned by the Fairy Queen Venus.
Arriving in the Court of the Fey Queen in the Otherworld. She announced her arrival to her Queen. "I have arrived to you summon, My Queen."
"Navi, thank you for coming, unfortunately the reason I have summoned you is my time as Queen of the Fey is about to end and I have chosen you as my successor," Venus stated.
Navi merely jumped back in surprise and quickly responded, "But usually doesn't this process require taking a selection of Greater Fey to then assess them and then choose a successor," internally not feeling like she was worthy of being the Queen of all the Fey.
"Yes usually a selection would be chosen," Venus responded, "But in this case it is your fate to become Queen and thus no selection is required."
"But surely there must be some other Greater Fey who would be more worthy than I," Navi asked in response.
Venus responded, "No there is not. I know you feel like your are not worthy Navi," Navi merely shied her head away in response. Venus then continued, "But I know you are truly worthy and that this is your fate, so please accept the role of Queen."
"Because you insist it is my fate, and I have doubted you before, My Queen, I accept my role as Queen of the Fey." Navi stated.
"Then it is time for me to leave this realm and for you to become Queen." Venus then released a large amount of magical energy from her spirit and it thus flowed into Navi.
"You will do well Navi, never doubt yourself", Venus' voice echoed as her form and spirit faded from the mortal realm.
Once this was over Navi merely stood in place inside the vibrant and magically empowering Nexus of the Otherworld, for some time as she accept the weight of her new role.
She was now Queen of all the Fey and had command over the Fey Otherworld.
Queen of all the Fey.
She had come far since a Failed Guardian.
Many more ages had come and gone, including the first Calamity, which during Navi did all she could to aid the land of Hyrule, until they proved triumphant in their battle with the New form of Ganon…
Calamity Ganon.
She recalled the seemingly endless rise and fall of Ganon, from the Gerudo King Ganondorf, who had slain her charge. To the beast Ganon, who still possessed great cunning in his plan of using a guise known as Agahnim to enact his plan while locked in the Dark World. To the mindless beast who had been resurrected and slain again during the Era of Decline.
And now a powerful and primeval force of nature.
Navi knew a more than she ever wanted about the history of Ganon.
And she hoped that these Guardians and Divine Beasts would be able to defend Hyrule from Ganon forever more.
Hopefully, they can be Guardians where she had failed.
It was a disaster.
As a small fairy flutters about the post-Second Calamity Hyrule. Navi wonders how it had got to this point.
It seemed that the Kingdom of Hyrule, The Champions, and the New Hero had everything they needed and were prepared for Calamity Ganon. But then…
He had eluded them all.
He took control of the Divine Beasts, slew the Champions and Hero, and bought destruction to the Kingdom of Hyrule.
He had also attacked the Otherworld itself.
It was for this reason that Navi was now in a form that was closer to her status as a Guardian Fairy in an age long since past. When Ganon had risen he openly attacked her in the Otherworld, quite evidently done with her interruptions, and the role she had played against him since he was Ganondorf.
During this Siege of the Otherworld, which was still ongoing, Navi had split a fragment of herself to go to the mortal realm of Hyrule to attempt to find some way to defeat Ganon while the majority of her power was maintained in a constant struggle with the Calamity. She had also cut of the Nexuses of the Fairy Fountains of Cotera, Kaysa, Mija and Tera to ensure their safety, though it had also cut them off from a large amount of force energy and required them to rely upon Rupees for power even more so than they had in the past.
It was some time later, that Navi came upon the vast and wonderous Great Plateau of Hyrule, where she had learned that in an Era long ago even before her time this was were the people of the Sky had come to settle the land of Hyrule.
She then found herself drawn to a concentration of energy that she could not determine its source.
She followed the trail of this energy that was so clear to her until she saw what seemed to be an Old Man sitting by a camp fire in the heart of the Forest of Spirits.
She watched closely hopping she hadn't been spotted until a voice called out to her.
"Come forth, little Fey you have nothing to fear from me, and I feel we both have much to learn." The Old Man said while holding out his hand for Navi to land on.
Navi deliberated for only a moment before she felt inside her spirit that she could trust this man. She came forth from her hiding place and landed on the Old Man's hand.
"Who are you, and how did you know I was there?" She inquired to the man.
The Old Man laughed, and spoke, "It is not hard for a Spirit to sense a creature with vast magical energy".
Navi then did doubletake, and rapidly responded, "Wait… but if you're a Spirit, then that means your dead, how are you physically here?"
"Little Fey, I have regrets that I have still left in world, and I have a role to play, but first before I explain it to you, who are you little Fey?" The Old Man requested.
"I am Navi, and this form is a fraction of who I truly am, that I had to split off to save my people." She explained.
"Well, Navi if this form is a split of who you are then who are you truly?" The Old Man continued.
She felt she could trust this man and gave him the full truth, "I am Queen of all the Fey."
"Well," he started while laughing, "From one Monarch to another, it is an honour to meet you, Your Majesty, I had heard of the Fairies having a Queen, but I was not sure if it was true."
Navi rapidly responded, "You're a Monarch, then who are you?"
"Since you have trusted me, I will trust you," The Old Man stated, then continued.
"I am King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule, the spirit of the Last King of Hyrule!"
After a few moments to process this information, Navi then asked, "Your majesty, in return it is an honour to meet you, but may I inquire as to why you remain in this world?"
"I am here for a role that now that you are here, I believe you will play a role in, one that will save both Hyrule, and the Otherworld from the Calamity," Rhoam answered.
"And what is that role?" Navi questioned the late King.
"To protect and wait for the reawakening of the Fallen Hero who resides in the Shrine of resurrection." Rhoam shocked Navi with his response.
"Wait, the Hero is still alive?" Navi asked with hope in her voice.
"Yes, and when he awakens, I now believe he you will have a role to play in helping him rid this land of Calamity Ganon."
In the many years since Navi had met Rhoam, she had enjoyed many discussion with him concerning the history of Hyrule, and the history of Ganon.
She remembered his surprise when she had told him she was there when Ganondorf first rose. And she in turn learned much of the history of Hyrule that she had not been watching.
For many days now, Navi had felt change was coming. Now on this morning she could feel that this move for change had reached critical mass, and something was about to happen.
She could feel in the air, and from the spirits and other creatures that were on the Plateau, she knew things were about to change, and that there would be another chance to fix things.
And as a she watched from above as a boy around the same age when her charge had died, exited the Shrine of Resurrection.
She knew it was happening.
The Fallen Hero had returned.
She would wait until Rhoam had explained it all to Link, but then…
Then it was time to have a new chance at being a Guardian Again.
A/N: There, I hoped you enjoyed the story, and please review, I would greatly appreciate this. For the future I hope to eventually create a BOTW novelisation AU that is based upon this one shot where Navi accompanies Link throughout BOTW. I would greatly appreciate feedback on that idea.
Thank you for reading.
