Present:
"You'll let me know when you get there?" Skyler asked worriedly, eyeing the helicopter on the helipad.
"I will," Brooklyn said, gathering her close. "As soon as we land, I'll call you on the satellite phone that Xanatos is giving to the clan there, I promise."
Skyler sighed, "Okay."
Honestly, she sounded so forlorn that he almost laughed.
Almost. He wasn't stupid enough to laugh at a female.
At least not out loud.
"I just don't like the thought of you being so far away," she admitted. "If something happened…"
"Nothing will happen," Brooklyn said, firmly. "We're going on one of Xanatos's helicopters, and it is a beast. Nothing will happen to it or us."
"I've never been outside of the US," Skyler admitted. "I've never even been on a plane. The only time I've been off of the ground has been flying with you, so forgive me if I don't have much faith in those," she said, jerking her head towards the helicopters.
"Ya needn't worry, lass," Hudson said as he passed them. "Nothin' bad will happen to us."
Skyler sighed and stepped out of Brooklyn's arms. "I'm embarrassing you," she said, flushing red.
"No," he said, running a hand over her hair. "You aren't. You're worried, and that's normal. I only wish I could put your mind at ease before I leave."
"I know," she said, closing her eyes and taking one long, slow deep breath. "I'll try to get a grip."
"You're going to be busy while we're gone," Brooklyn pointed out. "We'll be back before you've had a break to miss us."
"Nice try. With David flying you, and Fox flying with Goliath and the kids later today, there's not going to be a lot for me to do here. I'm going to be helping Owen watch over the Xanatos boys, but they're old enough that I'm not really needed here." The helicopter's engine fired to life, the propeller beginning to turn and Skyler gave him a smile. "I'll be Okay. Go. Have fun in Ireland."
Brooklyn gave her a small salute, then hurried to the helicopter.
"About time," Garia, the Scottish council member groused.
Hudson simply shook his head at the young second in command. He remembered a time, long ago, when it was the same with him and his mate. She'd been so soft spoken, so tender hearted, that she'd never wanted him to leave. She was a healer, not a fighter, and rarely left the castle.
Bronx, seeming to sense that Hudson was not in a good frame of mind, gave a restless whimper and laid his massive head on Hudson's leg.
"Easy now, boy," Hudson said, stroking his hands over the leathery skin of the gar-dog's. "Don't you be startin' too."
"Give the guy a break," Matt said from the rear of the helicopter. He had already taken his motion sickness tablets, hoping they would kick in soon so he wouldn't embarrass himself.
Brooklyn shot Matt a thankful glance just as the doors were slammed shut from the outside.
"Everyone ready?" David Xanatos's voice called through the large headphones they had been given.
"Yeah," Brooklyn called back, giving Skyler one last glance as she hurried away from the helicopter's whirling blades. "We're all here."
"Ireland, here we come." Xanatos drawled out as the helicopter slowly lifted into the air.
