Wicked Lives: Prologue
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor am I trying to claim that I own it
A/N: So, you clicked on my story and for that I would like to thank you for giving me a chance. I recently was feeling the fan-fiction itch and after a few days of re-reading some of my favorites I decided to try my hand at writing one. While this is not my first time trying, this is the first time this itch has been this strong. For now all I have written is this prologue, though I do have a good amount of the story roughly outlined. This will be a darker, more independent, Harry with a Daphne Greengrass pairing and I will try to update weekly, though I'm not going to guarantee that. Anyways, thank you for checking out my story and I hope you enjoy :D
Update 1/31/21: I plan on making the War a prominent plot point. There will be deaths, anger, some bashing of sorts (kind of), and this Harry will be a product of that war. I'm saying this, largely because I do not want to mislead people into thinking this story is something it is not. All that being said, this will not be a James Potter or Albus Dumbledore are bad people who deserved to be hated on. but it's not going to be a black and white issue.
Update 2/8/21: I got a review calling this a basic WBWL story, but I want to clear up that this is not a WBWL fan fiction. Regardless of how it currently appears, there will be things in the future that clear that point up. Also, there is some important information about the future time jump in another A/N at the bottom of this chapter, I put it there as to not crowd the top.
Potter Manor, Godric's Hollow
A pale light from a half moon peeked its way through a window, illuminating the large nursery. Inside the room, the two most prominent features were a large, intricately decorated crib and a sleeping mother. She had fallen asleep watching her two babies, waiting for both of them to fall asleep. The last several years had taken its toll on everyone, but for the first time in a long time she was feeling happy. "Lily" a man whispered from the door way, "it's time for bed." He had been staring at the scene for a few minutes before deciding to say something. They boys had been at the manor for a few weeks, and James could not have been happier.
"Huh?" she responded groggily, "James?"
"It's bed time, the boys have been asleep for awhile now." He said with a half grin. Over in the crib, one of the boys, Harry, was lying completely still. Ever since they had come home, he'd been weirdly solemn for a baby. Harry never cried. His brother on the other hand, was incredibly rambunctious, always crying and getting into trouble. In fact, even asleep he was moving violently in the crib, almost like he was throwing kicks and punches at some invisible force. "Lily, look at our little soldier." He said, partially as an attempt to keep her from falling completely back asleep, but also he knew she appreciated little things like that. Yet, it still seemed like she was struggling to wake up. Becoming concerned, James quickly made his way over to her, she had never been someone who had issues waking up. That was James' job. Suddenly James felt himself becoming overwhelmingly tired, panicking he realized what was going on. He quickly went for his wand in an attempt to counter whatever spell was affecting them, but it was too late. He collapsed next to the chair his wife was slumped over in. Right before James fully lost consciousness, he noticed a little creature dart out of the room.
Outside the large manor, a tall dark figure stood tapping his foot. That rat will pay for making me wait, the man thought. The animals in the nearby woods, sensing the malice pouring off the man, had fled. Nature knew what was going to happen tonight, and it wanted no part in it. A small wave, unnoticeable to those less attuned to warding magic, washed over the man. Finally, he thought as he apparated inside the house. He only had moments before the wards dropping would be noticed. He quickly moved his way into the nursery, inside a short pudgy man was standing timidly over the unconscious couple. Almost too quiet to hear, he asked "My lord, did I do a good job?" However, the question was ignored as the man moved towards the crib.
"So, one of these little brats is destined to kill me." The cloaked man said, disdain and disbelief was heavy in his voice. Aiming his wand at the crib, "Time to put this pesky destiny business to death." He couldn't help but chuckle at his choice of words. "AVADA KEDAVRA." An unusual flash of green lit up the room, the force of the spell, sent debris flying. Something was wrong.
The pudgy man dove to the ground, but what he landed on was not a wooden floor. Confused, he slowly pushed himself up, his hands sinking into sand. Looking around, He found himself on a tiny island with sparse foliage, all around all he saw was water for miles. Fear began to bubble up from inside him. Something had gone terribly wrong and he knew he would be blamed. The Dark Lord was not known for an understanding nature. Peter, what have you gotten yourself into, he thought to himself. Laying down on the sand, staring up at the stars he felt instant regret for his actions, but resolved to maintain his allegiance to the Dark Lord. He'd made his choice, and it was too late to turn back.
Back in the manor, the spell on the couple slowly began to dissipate. However, Lily and James struggled to get up. Their concern for their babies driving them to fight the lingering effects of the spell. As quickly as they could, they moved their way over to the crib, but inside they found one baby, with a new circular scar, crying and punching the air. They had Jason, but Harry was nowhere to be found. Slowly they began to start looking. The effect of the spell that had put them asleep was growing weaker with each passing moment. They had just regained the ability to walk when several pops were heard outside. Peering out of the hole from the misfired spell, they quickly recognized their fellow Order members showing up. "The alarms worked, but they hadn't been quick enough." Lily said, dread emanating from her voice.
Soon, everyone was scouring the surrounding area for baby Harry and the intruders, but there was no sign of anyone. A knot formed inside James' stomach as the situation began to fully dawn on him. He felt an arm laying on his arm, glancing up he saw his old professor, the leader of light staring at Lily and him. "James I'm so sorry. I should have double checked the alarms." Regret filled his voice as he continued, "Harry is gone, but Jason is still alive and here." He paused, going slow as not to overwhelm the couple. "I know this knowledge can never fill the void left by Harry, but we must look at the greater good."
"What?" James asked, his voice hollow.
"Jason has seemingly been marked by the Dark Lord." Dumbledore was staring intensely at James. Dumbledore's words as well as his intense stare brought James out of his stupor, the meaning of the old wizard's words dawning on James. Jason would grow up to end this damn conflict once and for all.
A/N 2: I have edited this chapter some, adding some more details and fixing a few mistakes I saw. Nothing that will change the overall progression of the prologue. There is a time jump in the 3rd chapter, largely because I don't want to start with Year 1 of Hogwarts, but I thought it was important open up the story with historical groundwork. I also don't think I can write a young Harry in a convincing way. Something I personally don't like is when you have an 11 year old Harry who is written to be more mature/intelligent than almost everyone around him. That being said, there will be flashbacks throughout the story to fill in important details for character development and world building.
