Day off being heroes
A guest asked for a oneshot of The Charmings having a sense of normality. Snow and Emma watching TV together on a rare day off. Snow unconsciously playing with Emma's hair.
After all they'd been through, it was nice for the Charmings to finally be a normal family. Sure, their version of normal should be in the Enchanted Forest ruling a kingdom, but not having those responsibilities had some perks. Free time could be scarce as it was, what with having three adults in the family with very tight schedules, never mind having to rule a kingdom. So when the stars aligned for the family and Snow, Charming and Emma all had a day off together, it was nice just to be together as a family. For Charming to be able to cook breakfast for his family, to laugh and joke together at the funny faces he made with the pancakes. Or that he still couldn't make them without having a mountain leftover. For them all to be able to take Neal to the park and take turns going down the slide with him, or delighting in his giggles as he was pushed on the swing. Then, for them to be able to curl up together on the couch and watch a movie as Neal took a nap.
Things had come on leaps and bounds in the Charming family. They could never be described as a normal family, the weird age gap between Snow, Charming and their eldest saw to that. However, they were now beginning to act like any normal family. Emma's walls were gradually coming down. Here, there was no awkwardness as she slouched lazily on the sofa, vaguely keeping up with the plot. She didn't flinch or stiffen as he mother subconsciously began to play with her hair. In fact, Emma seemed to move into the action. Charming gave up watching the screen and found much more joy in watching his family. They'd had their ups and downs, but they seemed to have turned a corner now. They had reached normal.
