Chapter 1: Going off Book

Remus lived with his good friend Lily. They lived in a comfortable apartment in a smaller city. Remus worked as a lesser-known author, so he didn't leave the apartment much. Not that he liked to go out.

Lily was of course a little concerned, but she didn't want to push Remus too much. She'd usually go out with a few of her other friends. While Remus stayed at home working on his book.

One day when Lily went out she met someone. Of course, it wasn't her intention to leave the restaurant with this person's number. He was easily recognized for his messy dark hair and hazel eyes.

Lily was hardly interested in this character. He was sitting alone in the back, not the most eye-catching thing. Though Lily did catch his eye. She was just being her usual kind self.

When the guy approached her she was fairly confused. He just smiled, then left a piece of paper and left. Lily gave a puzzled smile, and read the paper. It read James Potter and a number.

"Remus, it was the strangest thing," Lily repeated for the millionth time.

Remus looked at her. "Yes Lily, it's so strange for a guy to find a girl pretty and give her his number."

"Cut the sarcasm," Lily told Remus.

"You should text him," Remus suggested, picking up his computer.

Lily looked at him in shock. "You think I should what?"

"Text him," Remus replied.

"Ok, then." Lily picked up her phone and started typing a message. "Alright, how does this sound? Hi,"

"Go for it," Remus answered.

"Hi, is this the girl from the restaurant?" Lily said under her breath. Moments later she spoke again. "I'm meeting up with him tomorrow."

"Ok," Remus responded not looking up from his work. "Have fun,"

"Remus, when will you get out of the house?" Lily asked putting her phone down.

"When we run out of food." He replied still staring at his blank document.

"I'm the one who goes grocery shopping," Lily said confused.

"Alright, problem solved," he said, standing up.

"Where are you going?"

Remus smiled. "I need chocolate," he responded.

Lily laughed.

A week or two later Lily was non-stop talking about James. Remus would partly listen to her, partly type. It was interesting to hear Lily talk about someone like this.

"He admitted he wasn't always the nicest, but it's so hard to believe because he's so nice to me."

"He's in love with you."

"James is not in love with me." Lily explained.

"Sure he's not Lily. He admitted his flaws to you, he wants you to know who he was and is now." Remus told Lily.

Months passed. Lily and James got closer. While Remus wrote more pages of his book. Nothing was really going on with Remus other than his book. Lily continued denying the fact there were any romantic feelings in her and James' "friendship."

"Remus I want you to meet James." Lily said.

Remus glanced up at her. "Your boyfriend?"

"Friend." she snapped back.

"Like, you want me to leave the apartment?" Remus asked.

"Yes, it will be good for you."

"But Lily-" Remus started to whine.

"No don't start that. We're going tomorrow, I'm going to wash your favorite sweater." Lily told Remus.

"Wait, tomorrow? I already have plans." Remus lied.

"Writing your book is not a plan."

"Fine, I'll go, but only to make sure this guy isn't garbage." Remus said finally giving in.

"There's the Remus I know."
