Chapter 4: A Simple Text
The two were sitting in the apartment. Staring at Remus' phone. The message was just read. Hi Sirius this is Remus. Bubbles just appeared.
"He wants to take you on a date." Lily said in a dead tone.
Remus was confused. "Lily where did you read that?"
"What if he's not good enough for you?" Lily's voice was now concerned.
"He just wants to go to that coffee shop next to the bookstore." Remus replied, staring panicked at the phone.
"James!" Sirius called.
James walked into Sirius' room. "Yeah?"
"I think I've done bad." He said handing James his phone.
"You asked Remus, my future wife's best friend-" James started quickly.
"Wait, James, what?" Sirius stared at him puzzled.
"Unimportant." He looked up at nothing, then back to Sirius. "You asked Remus on a date?" James asked.
Sirius went red. "It's not really a date-"
"It's definitely a date." James sat down on Sirius' bed.
"Where are you guys going?"
"So maybe it's a date. We're going to that small coffee shop near the bookstore."
James nodded. "Lily told me Remus enjoys reading. Maybe you could get him a book." he suggested.
"Yeah, but what kind of book would he even want?" Sirius asked.
"I can text Lily."
James: Warning this is top secret about Sirius and Remus' date
"Oh, It's James." Lily noticed while picking a movie to watch.
Remus walked over. "What is it?" He asked.
"Let me see."
Lily: Can I tell him it's a date
?
James: Yes
"Ha, it is a date."
Lily: ok what's up
James: what kind of books does Remus like
Lily: He usually reads nonfiction
But he's always wanted to pick up a fantasy book
James: ok thanks
Love ya
Lily: . . .
James: no hetero
Lily: fine love you too
No hetero
"No hetero?" Sirius scoffed.
"What, I panicked," James admitted.
The next day Sirius woke up early. He wanted to have the time to get ready. Sirius wanted to braid his hair, but he couldn't do it himself. So he spent an hour trying to do something with his hair.
Remus slept a little longer. He didn't want to be tired. He had no idea what to wear or do with himself at all. Lily had to help Remus choose an outfit.
Sirius and Remus agreed to meet at 11:30. Sirius wanted to get there a little early. As he walked up to the coffee shop he saw Remus Lupin sitting at the window table. Remus spotted him and smiled softly.
Sirius stepped inside and got a better look at Remus. He was wearing a grey cardigan and black cuffed jeans. Sirius hadn't realized he wasn't wearing his usual I'm a cool guy grin, but a wide smile that was somewhat goofy.
Remus liked being early. Sure there was the waiting, but it was normally worth it. He waited for his "date" Sirius. When Sirius arrived shortly after himself his heart skipped a beat. Sirius had a small braid that was tied into a ponytail with the rest of his hair. He was wearing a black leather jacket and dark denim jeans. At the sight of Sirius' smile, he was glad he left the apartment.
"Hey." Sirius said smiling.
"Hi." Replied Remus.
Sirius sat down opposite of Remus. "I got you this," Sirius handed Remus a shiny new book. "I'd understand if you don't want it."
Remus took the book and looked at it. "Midlight." Remus said under his breath. "Thank you." He beamed smiling at Sirius.
The conversation started to grow. The time slipped away and before they knew it the shop was about to close.
"It's getting late," Sirius pointed out, looking through the window. "Will you be ok walking home"
Remus smiled. "I think so." He said anxiously, not matching his expression.
"I can walk you home if you'd like." Offered Sirius.
"That would be nice." Remus nodded.
The pair left the coffee shop, and started walking through the dimly lit streets. It was a chilly sunset with a slight breeze. There were hardly any people out. It was quiet. It was a short walk to Remus' apartment, though the two wished it was longer.
Remus turned to smile at Sirius. "Well, this is the building." He announced softly.
"So it seems," Sirius looked up at the building, then back at Remus. "Would you want to hang out again sometime?"
"I'd love to." Remus' smile grew.
Sirius grinned. "Ok, I'll see you then," ding! Sirius looked down at his phone. "Tell Lily James says hi." with a soft laugh and small wave goodbye, Sirius had left.
