Chapter 6: Taken to another world
James would be there soon to pick up Lily for their first official date. Remus knew they were bound to go out the moment Lily came back from properly meeting him.
"How do I look?" Lily asked, stepping out of her room. She was wearing a blue dress that complemented her bright red hair.
Remus smiled at his friend. "You look great Lily."
"James should be over soon."
"I bet he's crazy excited," Remus mentioned right on cue as the doorbell rang.
Lily opened the door. "Hi," Lily beamed.
"Hi," James replied. His black hair was much neater than usual and his glasses were spotless. "You look amazing. Are you ready to go?"
"Thanks, you look nice too. Yeah, I'm ready." She looked at Remus, and went out the door.
Remus let out a sigh. "What to do now?" He asked himself.
The moment they were out of the apartment building James grinned widely. He was leading her away from what seemed to be civilization.
"James, where are we going?" asked Lily.
He took her hand. "Don't worry, just follow me."
Before Lily could tell what happened she was swept away to something more beautiful than she could take in.
"James, this is…" She tried to speak, but her breath was taken away.
"Do you like it?"
"Are you crazy? This is magnificent."
James smiled widely. "I was hoping you'd say that."
"But you do know there's an actual entrance to the park, right?"
The two stood in a gazebo in the middle of the park. It was lit by strands of fairy lights hung all around. The white gazebo was lit up by all these orangish-yellow lights. No one else was out. The only other company was the radiant dark night sky with stars shining just as bright as the fairy lights if not brighter. It was an amazing sight to behold but to James, it was nothing compared to the beautiful smile that was now on Lily's face.
Lily returned home late, it was near midnight. She was glad she waited before saying yes to a date with James. When she got into the cozy apartment she could see Remus asleep on the couch. He was holding the book Sirius gave him.
Lily walked over to Remus and covered him with a soft blanket. She sat down on the armchair, and grabbed a blanket for herself.
"Remus I can't wait to tell you about tonight." She whispered.
Remus slowly opened his eyes. "Tell me now if you can't wait."
"I mean if you insist,"
Remus sat up attentively. "Go ahead, I'm listening Lils."
The two friends spent the whole night talking away. Remus knew Lily would have a great time with James. James was the person Sirius felt he could trust with his life. Someone must be very loyal for another to trust them with their life. Remus could trust James to help care for his wonderful friend Lily.
Although Lily was talking about James she was thinking about Remus and Sirius. Sirius wouldn't have been her first pick for Remus. They're just so different. Remus needs his stability, and he has a hard time letting people in. Sirius will let you think you know everything about him, but there are some topics he'd prefer not to talk about. Lily could see now how happy her friend was.
"Lily wake up." Remus shook her gently.
"What?" She groaned tiredly.
Remus handed Lily her phone. "Your boyfriend is calling."
Lily went pink and answered the phone. "Hello?"
James was on speakerphone. "Hi, Lily."
She looked at the time it was five in the morning. "Are you serious?"
James laughed. "No, he's still asleep."
"I'm so sick of that joke."
James started talking again. "So I was just calling to see if you'd maybe consider being my girlfriend." He paused for a moment. "Ok text me your answer bye." James hung up.
Lily looked over to Remus. "Did he just?"
"Yeah, he did. Tell him yes."
"You can't tell me what to-" Lily started.
"You were going to say yes to him anyway."
Lily smiled. "Yes, yes I was."
