Alternative Remnant: A World Inverted

Greatly appreciate the follows and favourites, totally not expecting anyone to notice this. And thanks for the review. I'm definitely not used to this writing platform just yet so I'll adjust and fix those mentioned problems. In short, I shall do my best.

Chapter Three

"Surely all of you have heard the story of the Maidens from those fairytale books." Salem continued.

"Who hasn't?" Weiss said as a confirmation.

"They are real. Maidens' existence are real. As you may already be aware, Maidens are those with... magic. Real magic. Something a mere semblance cannot compare to. Magic which has been existing for thousands of years that, as you know from your bedtime stories, derived from one woman. Three of these Maidens are which under my own protection, at the very least, I monitor them safely, and the other one simply... unknown."

"And we're supposed to believe that—ow!" Mercury rubbed his head, having been smacked by his neon-haired partner.

"Who are these three?" Yang Xiao Long finally managed to let out her voice.

Salem looked over at Winter. "Winter Schnee, just as her name suggests, is the holder of the Winter Maiden title. The Fall Maiden, Amber Autumn. The other Maiden, the Spring, is Raven Branwen."

"Raven... Branwen?" Yang was visibly surprised by this.

Ever since she found out her mother had been alive, she found herself obsessed with the thought of seeing her own biological mother that she would go dig several clues in Taiyang's things or her Uncle Qrow's that it led to her endangering her little sister. She was so sure they would have died right there hadn't Qrow arrived just in the nick of time to save them. Mainly because of that reason she had never told Ruby about Raven's existence. She was guilty, and she didn't want to drag her sister into her own inner battles knowing her sister's personality well of helping every chance she gets.

"Raven Branwen, yes." Salem confirmed, and Yang was trying her best not to lash out and ask questions where the said woman might be. Salem cleared her throat, finally facing them. "You might be wondering why I have told you this now. Only the Maidens knew, as well as the people taking part in my inner circle."

"You're planning to get them involved." Ruby said.

Salem smiled, one that did not reach her eyes. "I have been planning on telling them for some time now. Circumstances just... did not allow it. Your existences being here proves that the world is in a dire state. Ozma, the King if Grimm, must not know you are here."

"The King of Grimm? And people don't know there's a mastermind behind those monsters?" Adam was clenching his fists.

"And cause a worldwide panic? We have enough to deal with, people causing chaos won't be any of help." Winter explained.

"If it isn't visible enough, you, Team RWBY, is the counterpart of the enemies in this version of Remnant. We cannot allow Ozma—or Ozpin—to get the information of how silver-eyed warriors have the power to even cross dimensions when clashed with the power of a Maiden. For if that happens, we might not just deal with Grimms but the end of all worlds."

"That extent?" Cinder was horrified.

"Even more than that extent, Miss Fall. The King of Grimms is obsessed with the thought of...world end. He hold so much hatred for the God Brothers and their creations that he wish for nothing but destroy it all. If he finds out the thought of alternate dimensions exist, I can only imagine what plans he would brew."

"So...what now?" Ruby was getting worried.

"What happens now, Miss Rose, is for your Team to be in an absolute secrecy. That includes our conversation here. Nobody, not a single soul, must know about what transcribed in this very room. I do feel bad for Team CAEM and Team RWIN's total involvement, but if Team RWBY here are the good people in her world and you are their enemies, it means each of you has their own rule to fulfill and to fill in the blanks, I need you involved."

"Of course, Headmistress." Cinder immediately replied. "We will try to help as best as we can."

"I..." Roman sighed. "Well, can't have Cinder get all the credits now, can I? We'll at least promise not tell anyone."

"That's hardly assuring, Mr. Torchwick, but I suppose I shall hold you for your words. Now, we only have to deal with the Atlesian General heading here in right just about a few moments."

"The General?" Winter asked.

"Well, we did manage to have the infamous Ruby Rose detained. The very most likely case is that they will capture and put her behind bars." Salem then noticed the animosity reeking from Team RWBY at the statement.

"Try doing just that and I'll make a mess out of this room." Weiss warned, her voice was serious than her team had ever heard her spoke.

Weiss Schnee, so to speak, was never the person to open up. Using her sharp and hurtful words, she had long pushed people away. It would be a lie to say the RW in Team RWBY hadn't gotten close within these several months they had been together back in Beacon. On the first few weeks after the initiation, they had always found themselves bicker at every little thing, completely opposite to how Bumblebee had gotten closer and closer each day.

Weiss was envious of her other friends' relationship, but she could not help it. It had become a habit to speak with people in such a way that would immediately make them mad and leave. She would often speak things she didn't really mean and would regret it silently later on. She had no friends or anyone in her family she could consider as real family. Winter had left even before she became a teen to join the Military. She understood, of course, but it still had hurt her how Winter abandoned her in that hell of a household to fend for herself.

Her Mother drowning herself in alcohol and suffering from depression at the cause of her husband abandoning his family after he managed to swipe the company for himself, had forgotten the existence of her children. She only remembered Winter, her firstborn, and would often call on Weiss to refer to her as her older sister. Whitley, the little brother, did nothing but purposely rile her up. He was manipulative, much like their father. They were a little closer when they were children, until Whitley did something and put the blame solely to her. The punishment she got that day was a reminder never to trust anyone, even family.

When she first met Ruby, Weiss was truly annoyed. She was timid, small, and she even thought she was stupid. Then the initiation happened. She met the red-cloaked girl again. But both had pretended they never seen each other and went on their own ways. Weiss stumbled upon a pack of beowolf. It was the first time she had encountered one, let alone a dozen. Still, she persevered. She remembered all her battle lessons and she was confident she would win. She did, and she let her guard down only to have one beowolf attack her from the back.

There came a burst of red petals, almost obstructing her vision. Before she had even realized it, Ruby Rose had already decapitated the lone beowolf and they both were stuck in a heated stare. It was an uncomfortable feeling. Weiss was not used to having to owe someone, it had always been the other way around. Thus when her supposed partner ended up in travel from barely being stabbed by a Death Stalker, she used her glyphs and ice dust to protect her. It was the beginning of their official partnership.

Though Weiss was dejected when she didn't become the leader. Again, Weiss Schnee was not used to not being the best. She had completed all her studies, she was told that she could be perfect and leagues above others. As the heiress for SDC, she must be the best. But it was not for that reason alone she took it upon herself to be the best. It was because she wanted to prove to her father that she could carry on being a heiresses and as a huntress at the same time. It was her own way of making her father see that she could also be somebody he could be proud of.

It was not enough. It was never enough. Weiss knew her father saw her nothing but as a tool. After Team RWBY's encounter with the prototype Atlesian robot controlled by Roman Torchwick, her father had used the Vytal Festival as a way to forcefully bring her back to their household. He had sent people to kidnap her and if it hadn't been for her team, she wouldn't had even been here with them. She and Ruby had spent their time a lot of times together, may it be helping with essays or studies, they had been always together that she didn't even realize they had grown closer.

Weiss feared that connection. She hated being lonely but at the same time, she feared changing that sense of isolation. She was used to isolating herself that when Ruby would come knocking in, she would always hesitate and spat words that would surely upset their young leader. She regretted it. Every single time they had their usual fights, Weiss would convince herself she deserved feeling so guilty, being so sure Ruby wouldn't want anything to do with her anymore. But that never happened.

Ruby would always be there as though nothing had happened. It was this reason she had started calling the red girl dolt. She was far too naive and trusting she often worry other people would use that weakness to break her. Weiss would get angry at the thought. Her team's interaction with Cinder Fall and her team back in their own dimension proved that the young girl really did like and treat the latter team as friends. Ruby grew shyly with very little friends so she was always open for new opportunities to have more.

Then she found out it was Cinder and her team's fault that Pyrrah had died and the fall of Beacon commenced. Weiss could not forget the murderous eyes her partner held so much for Cinder at the first sight of the girl. Behind those eyes laid a great deal of pain from being betrayed by her so-called friends as well as regret that she couldn't save Pyrrah in time. Knowing her partner's personality, it would haunt her.

Weiss would not be able to bear seeing Ruby that way. She wanted Ruby to as the dolt she was, without having to see the darker side in every people. Ruby was naive and Weiss intended to keep it that way. She just had to protect that innocence and brightness, even if it meant her own to light dimly. Weiss didn't care. She simply wanted for Ruby to feel what the younger girl had made her feel. She wanted to return the goodwill Ruby had done. That vow included even at the present moment.

"That won't be necessary." The door opened, revealing another white-haired woman. Someone Weiss recognized very well. "I have heard enough."

"...Mother." She muttered, seeing her own Mother standing by the door, a stern look on her face and even wore an Atlesian uniform, she was far from surprised.

"Weiss Schnee from a different Remnant." The woman said, addressing her. "I know it must be...strange, but we are of different people. I intend to tell my husband about this and I still intend to find my real daughter. But for formality's sake, I must detain Ruby Rose. People have seen her being detained in the Academy before when she was brought here. It would be wrong for her to just wander around now."

"What?" Weiss was about to retort when the woman raised her hand.

"Rest assured. For Miss Yang Xiao Long, there might not be enough evidence to support that you are a thief in this world, but I advice you not to show yourself too much and as a preposition, I also intend to tell Mr. Taiyang Xiao Long about your existences. He would do better in hiding you. As for Miss Belladonna, no one would mistake you for being a White Fang leader considering the you in this world always wears a mask except for those who have seen you without it like Mr. Taurus here. Therefore, I would still urge you to stay out of sight. Weiss Schnee will be of course—"

"I'll stay where my partner is." Weiss and Blake declared at the same time making them look at each other for a moment.

"It cannot be helped, then." Salem sighed.

"Indeed. If that's the case, Miss Weiss and Miss Ruby will stay in our household. No one would question my authority as a General and a holder of two Council seats. Especially with me myself supervising the monitoring." The woman announced. "Miss Yang and Miss Blake will stay by the Xiao Long household. The trip shall be prepared soon but for now, I request the Headmistress to do something about their lounge."

"I will prepare them a room." Salem concluded. "Team CEAM and Team RWIN shall lead them out. Discreetly. And I'd like ask Miss Rose to accompany me for another tea. There are many questions I would love to be answered."

"Okay." The red-cloaked girl nodded. Weiss shot her a look almost as instantly. "It's okay Weiss. I'll meet you soon."

It didn't take long for the room to be emptied after a few passing minutes, except with Ruby and the Headmistress being there. Weiss was concerned about her partner being left alone inside. She trusted Ruby to be able to take care of herself, but against this foreign environment? They only had each other as a team now. She also worried about Yang's state of mind at the moment that she took a glance at her female blonde friend. There was a distant look on her face that made Weiss sigh.

Weiss knew she had to keep her emotions stable and made sure it didn't reach to the point where she would lose control of her aura so she did what Ruby had taught her whenever she figured she was putting too much emotions. Weiss began to regulate her breathing, exhaling and inhaling every now and then. She once had an episode of where she truly lost control of her emotions due to anger. Well, who wouldn't have felt the same knowing her father hired some goons and had attempted to abduct her before the opening of the Vytal Festival? Going to such extent to even hurt her friends.

Her father was protective because he didn't want anyone to get the information of the 'Schnee Family's Big Secret'. One that would surely cause Jacques entire reputation as the CEO of SDC and the downfall of the infamous Schnee Family. Weiss had never wanted SDC to suffer for her father's insane antics that she chose to keep her lips tightly sealed. Until that attempted kidnapping had happened which led to her team finding out about this said secret. She had feared the worst, she expected them to see her as something not quite human but they had accepted her. It was the first time Weiss truly did feel Team RWBY were her family.

Which led her to the current situation of worrying. She had always been the worrisome fellow of their team, she did not plan to change that however, for it was always better to have someone to keep the team in line from Yang's recklessness, Blake's passion for doing what was right, and even to Ruby's daily team activity antics. Although they would enjoy the experiences altogether, there were still chances they would get hurt and Weiss wouldn't want to take that chance.

"Weiss Schnee, if you won't mind." The Atlesian General said as soon as the group stepped out of the elevator. "We would like to speak with you."

Weiss gave Blake a nod as the rest of her team followed everyone to the room they were supposed to stay until the preparation for their chosen households were readied. General Willow Schnee led her to a garden, with Winter silently walking a few steps behind. They reached the Pagoda in the middle of a grass terrain filled with different flower assortments. Just beside the small building was a pond where a bridge laid above it.

The General sighed, leaning over the pole as Winter took a seat on one of the four chairs surrounding a wooden-based table. "Weiss Schnee." She called, it made the said girl flinch.

"Y-yes?"

"Are you not really...Weiss? The Weiss from this Remnant?"

Weiss frowned, crossing her arms. "Is this why you decided to let my partner stay in the mansion? To keep me there?"

"You run away at every chance you get. Why do you dislike staying with your family that much?"

"Perhaps because the Weiss here felt trapped, who wouldn't be? Considering her situation in that household. But I wouldn't truly know, General. After all, I am not the Weiss from this Remnant."

"Mom..." Winter sighed. "We'll find her."

"Of course. Which brings us to the existence of this girl. Different dimension or not, you are still a Schnee. You are still family."

"I wouldn't want to impose. But I shall ask if you could bear with the situation—"

Weiss was interrupted with Winter suddenly hugging her. "Stop being so formal in front of family, Weiss."

"I...I can try." Weiss simply was not used to speaking... informally to her 'family' that this change made her feel so puzzled.

"I don't want to mistake you for being the Weiss in our Remnant. Any particular nicknames?" The General asked, urging for another name.

She was usually called as Snow Angel or Ice Queen a lot as a nickname, ad much as those had irritated her. But she was not very willing to be called as such temporarily, the thought was horrifying. Thus, Weiss settled on something her own mother had used to call her as a young child, back when everything seemed so perfect. It might sound unfair, but a part of her wanted to relieve that moment by being called like that.

"Frostine." She said, almost looking away in embarrassment. It was not very creative, but she had loved the name especially when her mother used to call her 'Little Frostine'.

"Frostine, I see." The General smiled. "Well then, Frostine, welcome to the family."

"It's my plea—I mean, thank you."

"You can call us like what you would normally call us." Winter said hugging the younger white-haired girl.

"Uh..."

Winter looked at her, unfamiliar glint of anticipation in her eyes. "Go on, call me. What do you call me? Please call me Big Sis! The Weiss here didn't really like calling me that way."

"Wh-what?" Weiss took a step back, completely aware of how different her supposed family here compared to the ones she knew. But Weiss did always want to call Winter like that, the formality just didn't allow her to. "If you're fine with it then...B-Big Sis." Winter ended up squealing over it, hugging her once again.

A small blush appeared on Weiss' face and she was truly delighted by these turn of events. However, she knew things would not always continue to go this way. She would eventually need to return to their original world and there, she would have to face the complete opposite personalities of her family. With that taking a huge space in her mind, she thought over what could have the 'Headmistress' wanted to talk to Ruby about.
