Life in the balance- part 4

Pearsons asked for a oneshot of a sequel to Ch3070 "Life in the balance- part 3" where Emma is ok mentally, but is paralyzed from the waist down, for the moment.

Snow couldn't hold on much longer after the heart stopping incident. With help from Regina, baby Neal was born two days later and Zelena was safely locked up in the station. That left David and Snow balancing life with a newborn and their critically ill big sister. It was about a week later when Emma's eyes opened for the first time since the accident, and that was the first time her parents felt like they could properly breath again too.

It was clear pretty quickly that cognitively Emma hadn't been compromised. She had all the memories should have and was retaining new ones. Her speech was fine, and she seemed in control of her emotions and impulses. Her vision and hearing were both clear as well. There was still one major problem: she couldn't walk. Not yet, anyway. There was no concrete answer whether this would be permanent or not. All they could do was wait and see.

Emma continued to be amazed by the fact her parents returned day after day with her new little brother. Her childhood experiences led her to believe now that they knew she wasn't going to die, there was no reason for them to stick around. Especially now they had a new baby to build a family with. Yes, now that Emma was awake they no longer practically lived in the hospital, and sometimes only one of them came so the other could stay home with Neal, but they made sure Emma was hardly alone as well. They knew she would worry she'd be abandoned, and they never wanted her to believe for a single second she'd be left. Snow had promised her daughter when she was at death's door that it didn't matter what care she required when she woke up they'd look after her, they weren't about to break that promise because of a wheelchair.
