Dad duties
julia23602829 asked for a oneshot of Emma waking up in the middle of the night having a crying fit. David does everything he can to calm her down and she ends up crying herself to sleep in his arms.
"There." David whispered as he heard his young son's snores. "Let's try for the real morning this time before waking up again, huh buddy?" David whispered. He smiled, watching his cute little face. He carefully settled Neal back into his crib and stretched. He was exhausted. Having a teething baby was hard work. He was ready to get another few hours in before he had to get up for work…then he heard a noise from upstairs. Was that Emma? Was she crying? Concerned, David quickly made his way upstairs to check on his daughter.
When he peaked into Emma's bedroom, he found her sitting up in bed, bawling her eyes out.
"Emma?" he asked, coming in. "Sweetheart, what's the matter?" David waited for Emma to respond, but it appeared that she didn't even hear him. David waved a hand in front of Emma's face. She didn't react at all. She was still asleep. David frowned. What was going on in that head of hers? He knew waking her at this stage could cause more harm than good, so he carefully clambered onto the bed beside her and gently pulled her torso over towards him. Similar in the way he did with Neal, he began to sway gently from side to side, humming a lullaby. Soon, Emma's sobs began to subside. She quietened in his arms, resting heavily against him. David smiled down at his sleeping daughter. She actually kinda looked like her brother when they were both sleeping. He kissed the top of her head.
"Can you be like your brother and sleep until the morning now? Otherwise you're filling out all the paperwork tomorrow while I nap." He whispered. He carefully put Emma back against the pillow and pulled her duvet up around her, tucking her in. He then tiptoed down to his own bed and got back under the covers, pulling a still sleeping Snow over to him. He smiled as he fell back asleep with her in his arms. Dad duties were now complete for the night.
