WARNING

Major spoilers for the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ahead! Please reconsider reading this story if you are yet to finish the game. You have been warned!

A/N: Hey y'all, it's been a while :3

I recently got into the Zelda series, and man, am I immediately fascinated by the ultimate ship of the fandom: Zelink. Especially in Breath of the Wild and Skyward Sword; how can you tell me with a straight face that they aren't in love?

I decided to rewrite the memories from Breath of the Wild in Link's point of view, since no one seems to have done it yet. This will be fun ;p

Each chapter will be somewhat short, depending on the length of the memory.

Updates every week!

That's enough rambling of me. Now, enjoy~!

"Hero of Hyrule, chosen by the sword that seals the darkness…"

The princess's voice echoed amongst the Sacred Grounds, soft and gentle yet distracted, troubled. Link knelt before her, his head bowed low in respect, feeling the stinging stares of the champions on his back as he did so. Silently he bore Zelda's every word, feeling his determination boil deeply in his soul.

"You have shown unflinching bravery and skill in the face of darkness and adversity." Zelda mumbled, her hand raised in front of her. Link felt color flooding up to his face at this pretended compliment, despite the slight disgust in the princess's voice. A soft breeze was blowing across the Hyrule fields, ruffling Link's honey-blond hair and Zelda's sunflower-blonde ones. Link remained inhumanly still, trying not to show how nervous he was, being so close to the princess.

"…and have proven yourself worthy of the blessings of the Goddess Hylia. Whether skyward bound, adrift in time, or stepped in the glowing embers of twilight…the sacred blade is forever bound to the soul of the hero." Zelda's voice sounded rough, forced. That strange surge of concern for this distant princess grew in Link's chest again, and he clenched his jaw in protest. His captain had warned him not to get too attached — this was the princess of Hyrule, top-class royalty, after all — but the growing love he had held for her right from the beginning could no longer be denied. He knew he didn't stand a chance: she probably hates him, hates the way he follows her around all the time, hates how he's silent all the time, not a word breaking his lips…

"We pray for your protection, and we hope that—" Link's heart clenched at the pain in Zelda's voice. "That the two of you will grow stronger together, as one." The princess set down her raised hand and heaved a long sigh. Link felt himself release a breath he hadn't realize he'd been holding, but it caught in his throat again as Zelda's green eyes landed on him, burning his skin as she studied his every detail. He tightened his fists on his lap, wishing his sideburns would hide his embarrassed face.

"Forged in the long distant past, the sword that seals the darkness —"

"Gee, this is uplifting." Daruk's loud voice cut through the Zelda's quiet prayer. Link cursed at him silently in his mind and tried to return his attention back to the princess. "She's making it sound like we already lost."

"— Ancient stow is bound to the hero —"

"— your idea?" Revali's sarcastic sneer crept into Link's ears. He bit his lip, wishing they'd quiet down.

"— and remains in the name of Hylia —"

"— nonsense we could muster!" Of course Revali was complaining. Link bowed his head even lower, as if trying to hide himself from the champions.

"— in sense of time, and distance. When in need — "

"— same page as the princess about…this boy." Link shrank at the disgust in his voice. Revali's never liked him, but he couldn't blame the Rito. He had nothing to prove, just a regular swordsman that happened to be chosen by the King of Hyrule. Revali, on the other hand…

"— that the two of you would be stronger together —"

"Oh, give it a rest." Urbosa's strong voice came next. "That boy is a living remainder of her own failures."

Link felt his heart freeze as he took in what the Gerudo chief has said. A...a living reminder of her own failures...? He felt cold, incredibly cold. All in a sudden the princess's voice faded out, as well as all the other sounds around him, soon nothing but a soft whisper around his ears. He felt alone, afraid, and very, very cold. How could it hurt this much? Does the princess really think of him that way? He could barely think it through his head. He was shaking, his fists clenched impossibly tight on his lap, and he wanted to leave, immediately. To escape everyone's glares and hide, cover his face in his hands and run. How could she...?

"Sir Link?" Zelda's voice broke him from his freezing cell, sending an unsettling feeling down his neck. "We are finished with the ceremony. Would you kindly get moving with us?"

Trying his best to ignore the impatience in her voice, Link nodded silently and stood up, his hands still trembling at his sides as he followed the princess back to the castle.

NEXT UPDATE: August/8th

A/N: Oops, sorry for the incredibly short chapter ;w;

I didn't really think much about this memory, but it did physically hurt a lot when I heard Urbosa say how Link is a living reminder of Zelda'a own failures. Ouch. Dammit, Urbosa.

Hope you enjoyed, and have a great day, viewer!
