Link stared up at the giant flying machine in the sky, his blue eyes large in awe. To think that this was actually built by people…he couldn't help but want to bow in respect for his ancestors. Such a beautiful mechanical beast, actually floating in the air...Link wondered how it would be like to be a Sheikah, to be wise and intelligent, to be able to create something like this.

Zelda had decided to take a research trip around Hyrule, and their first destination was the cold and lonely Rito Village, champion Revali's home. For now, Zelda had told Link off, locking herself in her private room in the inn. Before she had closed the door, a nasty look was thrown in Link's way, freezing his icy heart even colder.

Link sighed softly as he recollected the memory. A living reminder of her own failures…why does his heart ache so much when he thinks of that?

A whirl of wind snapped him out of his thoughts, catching him off guard as a tight gasp escaped his lips. He tensed his muscles, trying to balance in the wind, his short ponytail being tossed everywhere with the motion. Painful concern kicked in as Link wondered if the princess would be okay alone, back in her room. Can't let her get hurt...

Revali revealed himself from beneath the stadium, his body twisting around gracefully. Link's sharp blue eyes followed his figure as he soared gently in the skies, the blue scarf around his neck flying in the air as he did so. Link gently shook his head to get his bangs out of his face.

Revali landed gently onto the bars before him as Link finally relaxed, seeing no harm from the proud Rito. Revali crossed his arms together arrogantly, his beak in the air as he judged Link with those tiny bird eyes.

"Impressive, I know." Vain lanced the Rito's voice. "Very few can achieve a mastery of the sky."

Link pressed his lips together tightly, refusing the reply to his selfish statement. Revali continued on as if he hadn't seen him.

"Yet I have made an art of creating an updraft that allows me to soar." He swayed his wings lightly in the air, his green eyes shining with excitement. "It's considered to be quite the masterpiece of aerial techniques, even among the Rito."

He set his wings in a heroic gesture, as if trying to show off those non-existent muscles of his. Link tried not to look away in awkwardness, still staying in the same position as he was before.

"With proper utilization of my superior skills..." Revali opened his wings wide, his green eyes not leaving Link's face, "I see no reason why we couldn't easily dispense with Ganon." He leaned a little forward towards the Hylian knight, pride and pity in those eyes as he studied Link all over, sending a shiver down the seventeen-year-old's spine. He felt his fists tighten at his sides as if looking for a fight; but of course, he was nothing compared to this award-winning Rito champion, and he'd lose without a doubt. With a shaky sigh he loosened them, noticing that Revali had already jumped off the bars and was walking towards him gracefully with those bird feet. Link made sure his eyes followed the Rito as he circled him.

"Now then, my ability to explore the firmament is certainly to note…" Revali suddenly wheeled back to his left, leaning in slightly as he spoke to Link softly, "But let's not—pardon me for being so blunt—let's not forget the fact that I am the most skilled archer of all the Rito." Link felt himself cringe inwardly as the proud statement left Revali's mouth, not even a hint of humbleness in his voice. He tried to remind himself of Revali's achievements, to convince himself of the reason behind all this.

"Yet despite these truths, it seems that I have been tapped to merely assist you." There it was again: that freezing coldness was back as the sentence made its way through Link's brain. Assist me? It made Link sound like some sort of barbaric warrior, eager to win everyone's trust and love with his muscles and fights. Yet all he really wants is to do his job and protect the princess…he barely wants to even consider about the upcoming fight with Ganon. He'd been preparing, yes, but no matter what he does, no matter how many help he might have, no matter how history seems to prove him wrong—he feels weak, unprepared, and feeble whenever he affords to think about the demonic beast in the books. He was supposed to be brave, to be heroic, to be a model remembered by history alongside the other champions; but sometimes he feels even more of a failure than the princess makes herself sound to be.

"…All because you happen to have that little darkness-sealing sword on your back." Revali poked the sword's sheath slightly with his feathers, making Link look back at it as well out of instinct. The Master Sword on his back was silent as always. That's not a surprise. Ever since he had wield this mysterious weapon from its pedestal when he was young, not a word had escaped those silvery edges and beautiful blue tilt. Legends say that a voice was supposed to reside within, however…

"I mean, it's just…asinine." The Rito said with a soft, pretended desperation in his voice. "Unless…you think you can prove me wrong?" After a long stare, Revali edged uncomfortably closer to Link's face, making him lean back with a tiny grunt. "Maybe we should just settle this one on one?"

Link could feel his internal self screaming in refusal. No…of course not! He didn't want anything to do with the Rito champion, let alone a fight; despite what he had thought earlier, this elite in front of him was capable of flight, archery, decent fighting skills, even piloting a magnificent Divine Beast…and all Link could do was to fight with his sword. Revali will knock him dead for sure—there's no doubting it. Unlike most of his gender, the Hylian knight never felt particularly competitive towards anyone; peace was always the answer to everything. Why would anyone fight under such circumstances then?

Unapproachable.

Cold.

Emotionless.

Coming back to his senses then, he scolded himself to keep his face completely expressionless once more. Revali was speaking yet again…

"But where…? Oh, I know!" Link felt his heart sink to the bottom of his body as he recognized the fraud in his voice. Revali swung his large wings skywards, towards the direction of Divine Beast Vah Medoh. Link followed the tip of his wing out of instinct, closing his eyes temporarily to block out the sun. "How about up there?!"

Vah Medoh flew in the sky still, the sunlight tracing those beautiful mechanical wings gracefully, floating stably despite the hysterical wind. Link let himself another brief moment of amazement as his eyes traced over the Divine Beast once more.

"Oh, you must pardon me." The pretended pity came back into Revali's voice, raising the hair behind Link's neck. "I forgot you have no way of making it up to that Divine Beast on your own!"

And before Link could even open his mouth to respond, another strong gust of wind hit him as the Rito spread his wings and flew skywards elegantly. "Good luck sealing the darkness!" He called out, before disappearing completely as he headed towards his Divine Beast, leaving Link partially dumfounded, standing back on the stadium, alone.

NEXT UPDATE: August/15th

A/N: I don't have much special opinions on those champion memories, but one thing I do know: I actually love Revali. You can fight me.

Of course, like most players, I used to dislike him a lot. But after finishing Vah Medoh, I started loving him a lot, since I do find his proudness kinda adorable. Hehe.

Anyway, thank you for reading this! Hope you enjoyed, and have a great day!

(Edit: I made some adjustments to the story since I noticed some grammar mistakes. I typed this mostly on my phone, and you all know just how annoying autocorrect is; it tends to change words like "traced" into "traces", since "d" and "s" are so close to each other on the keyboard. Anyway, thanks for RoanokeWilde again for that review and reminding me of those errors!)
