TW/ BLOOD, DEATH

A/N: Major major major major spoilers! Turn back now if you're not ready! Also be aware of the TW above!

Pls consider: The Legend of Link: Zelda's Awakening

I know I'm big funny

(I am not) (I am actually big dumb)

I legit googled "effects of serious blood loss" and "effects of serious body injuries" for this lmao I figured it'd just feel like when you pull three all nighters in a row but plus excruciating pain

The world was on fire, and there was nothing but heat.

A throbbing pain, burning, searing pain, shook from the very core of his body, making its way down every muscle and every vein.

He could barely see.

Everything was hazy, blurry and red with pain, but as he peeked through his half-closed eyelids, a large Guardian seemed to have poked at his instincts.

Danger.

Someone was speaking…it made his head hurt. Who was it…? It seemed like a very important person—

"Link, save yourself, go! I'll be fine, don't worry about me! Run!"

Zelda.

The sharp intake of breath he allowed himself to perform almost overwhelmed his senses, rocking his broken ribs with devastating agony.

Run? Leave her behind? Ridiculous.

The Guardian was edging closer…wasn't it? It would target Zelda if he didn't do anything, right? …So she would be in danger, right?

He gritted his teeth, so tightly that he was almost surprised that none of them cracked under the pressure. He had no strength left, all of his muscles wasted to no energy, every one of his nerves screaming in pain. He can't do this. He's not strong enough. He can't.

The Guardian…it was as close as ever under his muzzy vision. The Master Sword seemed to be singing at him to get up. But he can't. He can't do it.

But he must.

Leaving the princess by herself to die? Goddesses, was Zelda being funny today.

With the very last ounce of energy he had, Link pushed himself up from the ground, grimacing violently as the pain almost overtook his senses. How he was still alive, he didn't know. Maybe it was just that pure determination to protect finally acting out.

Every bone, every nerve, every muscle and every thought screamed against his will as Link readied himself to take one final strike. His vision swam and his breath hitched, his chest rocking and shoulders shaking with each agonizing gasp of air. He felt himself lift his head up to gaze at the Guardian, the racking pain caused by a thousand broken bones almost making him fall to his knees. He didn't really care…just one simple, easy strike and it'd be gone for good…right?

The Guardian moved its head in a nod-like motion, and before he knew it, that deadly blue eye of its was turning red, and there was an igniting heat on his skin as it targeted him with that unfriendly laser, its machines tickling in his Hylian ears as it charged up to fire, its beautiful patterns around its body an angry dark pink that lit brighter and brighter as the seconds nearing his death counted down, but he didn't care, as long as the princess escapes he didn't care, and he's just about gone, and—

"No!"

A piercing shout, too loud for his overwhelmed ears.

Was that…?

The world around him went completely, utterly bright, swallowing him with an unfamiliar heat.

With his numb muscles, he knelt down at someone's body crashed in front of his, his fragile arm supported by the weak, broken Master Sword next to him.

What was happening?

Where…where was Zelda…

His mind was nothing but wary, like his messy hair after a night's sleep. All thoughts tangled together, all shouting at full force, desperation burning his insides like venom while another part of him giggled sillily at the light all around him. With an inner chuckle, Link realized that he was probably not in the best condition right now…

And for a moment, just a brief, terrifying moment, everything blacks out, the world disappearing from his vision as all the things faded to black, all sounds around him going silent. His head ached like never before, threatening overtake his senses as red covered the black, like waves near an ocean-

-and then everything was back again, his body physically refusing to last any longer than he already did. He could almost hear a warning, beeping sound at the back of his head, telling him to stop fighting so that he wouldn't die this very night. Loud, crashing noises poked at a deep curiosity in his bones, but he was all too tired to look up.

He felt the world go side ways as he…did he fall to the ground? He could barely think anymore, and his nerves are starting to become numb, taking over the threatening pain. It was…relieving, despite all things…

"….No, no…" A feminine voice…Zel…da? Someone's hands touched his broken body. He could've definitely managed a hiss if he wasn't this tired….it's alright….all he needed was a good sleep and breakfast, he was sure he'd be fine after that-

"Link! Get up!" Link…that was his name, right? Goddesses. Things are…getting so confusing. Zelda's voice sounded so…tearful? Wait…he's gotta fix that somehow, right…?

A strong hand managed to lift his head from the ground, almost shredding his lungs into pieces. The world spun as Link let out a few violent coughs, everything turning red as the pain dived back into his bones.

After what seemed like a century of suffering, Link fell back into…Zelda? Zelda. Zelda's arms. He fell back into Zelda's arms, his eyes squeezed shut as the freezing numbness crept up into his veins. Well. That definitely hurt…

"….to be just fine…" Zelda…Zelda. Oh, goddesses…Zelda…With every will he ever had, Link forced his eyes to open and land hazily on that perfectly-crafted face. He wanted, ever so badly, to let his hand cup these features tightly, to whisper to her and hug her…is this all…too late?

Everything…everything was fading to black. A gentle, soft voice was speaking to him somewhere far, far away. He hears it.

But he doesn't want to go.

I'm sorry…Zelda…He'd failed her in the end…Please, he willed, so strongly it hurt his head, run. Run far, far away, away from all this, to safety…

He doesn't have any time left…did he? He looks at her, hungrily, desperately, taking in her perfect appearance, because…goddesses, she was beautiful.

He didn't want to go…

One last breath, one last gaze. He felt his eyelids fall over his eyes…and the whole world fades into light…

Link: (chuckles) I'm in danger

Ok AJGKLAEJK I have to end this whole thing now. I'm not ready

Well…thank you so much for reading this fic! Goddesses this had been a rollercoaster, thank you everyone for your patience in my slow self ahahaha. It's been a nice experiencing, and I'm glad that I managed to finish all of the memories. Quite proud of the progress I've made lol.

Anyway, if you're wondering, I'm probably not doing the DLC memories but I might change my mind wink wonk! This will be considered finished for now, but who knows when the motivation truck will hit me next….

Very glad this is over! As in, very glad I managed to complete this! Thank you for all your comments and likes and follows, they mean the world to me.

Also! Don't go yet! Check out the Linked Universe AU by jojo56830 on Tumblr! It's basically just Hyrule Warriors but with fully characterized Links. It's godly ajfklajgkaj I've read every single comic like ten times at this point

Okay, that's about it. See you in a hundred years! (No that does not mean I'm rewriting breath of the wild too many people have done it already…. I think I might actually go support the Link's Awakening fandom because that angsty fricking game was just too much for me I can't even look at a seagull or talk about dreams now without wanting to dig up a hole and cry forever)

Okok! I'm terrible at ending fics I know! Well! Bye! And thank you! UwU~!
