BPOV

Carlisle and Esme stopped by the island before they returned to Forks. They wanted to bring the news of what they had found in Chile with them in person. We thought they just missed us, being 'parents' and all. We were surprised when their boat pulled including a guest. A man about Carlisle's age, but taller, more muscular with long, dark hair and a necklace made of what looked like bone carved into intricate beads.

Esme ran to grab us in one giant hug. She loved us so much, she couldn't decide which one to greet first, so she went with both of us. Carlisle was a little more reserved, shaking Edward's hand and kissing me on the forehead. "Edward, Bella, this is Nahuel."

"Hello Edward and Bella." He said with a nervous laugh, smiling up at our parents. We greeted our guest and took everyone inside to talk comfortably.

Edward's face was one of shock and disbelief. I could only guess that Nahuel held information about the hybrid vampire we had heard so much about and that Edward was hearing it in his thoughts.

Carlisle started the conversation. "Esme and I found Nahuel here just outside of Chile while we were asking some of our friends there for information about hybrid vampires. He wanted to come and meet you and answer your questions in person."

"My mother was human. My father was vampire. I am hybrid." He laughed. "I have never heard of a couple both intentionally wanting to create someone like me. Usually, the vampire father uses the human mother and then lets her die in childbirth."

I was surprised, but I also found myself feeling for the young man, even though I was certain that we are a similar age. "You never got to know your mother?" I asked.

"No." He responded sadly. "But don't feel bad for me. I live happily along with my aunt Huilen, she has raised me. I have changed her so she can be like me and live with me forever."

"How old are you?" I asked.

"Over one hundred and fifty." He smiled at me. I returned his smile. I liked him almost instantly.

"Do the women always die in childbirth?" Carlisle asked.

"No. Although it is typical because the vampire child drains her of her blood as it grows and then bites its way out of the womb. I've only heard of women surviving if they are turned at the moment they give birth. I've never met one though."

"What's your diet like?" Carlisle asked.

"I prefer blood, but I can eat human food as well. I survive either way."

"What do you do for fun?" I asked after everyone was quiet for a couple minutes. I thought it only polite to get to know Nahuel. He had given us so much by agreeing to come and talk to us. And so, we spent a few hours together talking, first as a group, and later on just us and Esme as Edward and Carlisle went off somewhere to talk in private.

I must have fallen asleep against Esme at some point, because the last thing I remembered was yawning and resting my head on her shoulder, but I woke up alone in bed. It was dark out and the only sound was of the waves calmly hitting the ocean. Edward was standing out on a small balcony overlooking the beach, lost in thought, unmoving.

I quietly walked up behind him and put my arms around him, resting my head against his back. "What has you so deep in thought?"

"Carlisle thinks it's possible. Despite the fact that every mother Nahuel knows has died. Carlisle thinks there's a chance." He said roughly, almost angry.

"You aren't happy about it?"

"No."

"Did everyone else go home?"

"Yes. Esme and Carlisle said to tell you that they love you and they are going to continue to search for answers. They said you looked too cute to bother when they left. Nahuel really liked you as well."

"I hope we get to see him again."

"I'm sure we will."

"Why aren't you happy about the possibility? I thought we wanted this."

Edward turned around to face me, taking my face in his hands and looking intensely into my eyes. "I do, but not at the risk of your life."

"No one is making any decisions right now. Please remember that. Besides, this isn't exactly something I could do without you even if I wanted to." I smiled.

Edward hesitated, but slowly a smile spread across his face as well. "You're right. I'm worrying too much. I'm sorry."

"Come to bed with me?" I asked, yawning, and looking up at him sleepily.

"Of course."

Edward led us back to bed and I happily snuggled beside him. I couldn't resist placing my hand on his cheek before I fell asleep. He moved my hand to his lips, slowly kissing each finger before putting it back and putting his on me as well.

What would I ever do without you? He asked.

Panic. I answered. He laughed.

Bella, I can't lose you. I can't even think about losing you without completely shutting down and panicking, despite knowing that you are right here safe with me.

You won't lose me. We're in this together. Besides, like I said, when we decide, it's going to take both of us.

That's true. I am just so hardwired to worry. I lost you once. Even knowing that you were alive and safe, it was still unbearable.

I know exactly how you feel. Not only because of your thoughts, but because I felt the same. You know that. I would never hurt you on purpose.

I know. You never have. It's me who has hurt us.

Stop, Edward. This is our honeymoon. We're married. We have this gorgeous island to ourselves. And everything is fine, more than fine. Amazing. There's a possibility that we might can have our own little family, but that's exactly what it is, a possibility. It isn't a risk or a for sure thing. It's just something we're considering. Alright?

You're right. You always know how to calm me down. You're way more effective than Jasper.

You really want to think about Jasper on your honeymoon? I tell you what else I'm more effective than Jasper at.

Edward laughed. Rest, human. You're talking crazy now.

I was rather sleepy, but I had more questions for Edward first. What did you and Carlisle talk about?

Rather than tell me, Edward simply showed me their conversation through his perfect vampire memory:

"What are your thoughts on Nahuel, son?" Carlisle asked as they walked along the beach.

"He seems interesting. I know Bella certainly likes him."

"Esme does as well. He's very kind-hearted. He loves his family more than anything else. You heard him mention his aunt?"

Edward nodded. "He's venomous?"

"He is. He changed her so that she would always be with him."

"As badly as we want this, I can't risk Bella's life just to maybe have a child with her."

"I've been thinking of a few things Nahuel said. I have some theories. I'm going to do a little more research first." Edward saw in Carlisle's thoughts that the theories involved one of them biting the baby out of the womb just a couple days before it reached term, where it would be safe and viable, but more likely to turn me and less likely to kill me from internal bleeding. He also had some thoughts on me drinking blood during the pregnancy and was debating if it would need to be human or animal.

"Carlisle! I couldn't do that to her."

"Relax, son. They are only theories. Nothing at all is set in stone right now. All we're doing is researching. Is Bella still feeling alright after her procedure?"

"She's great. Thank you so much for suggesting that. I was terrified. I completely forgot all of my medical knowledge when I started panicking."

"I know. I'm glad I could help. Esme and I are only going to stay a few more hours. Nahuel has a flight to catch back home, and we want to return the newlyweds to their privacy. How is the island?"

Edward laughed, nervously and simply smiled at Carlisle, who laughed in return. It was clear that no words were needed. They walked back to the house and found Nahuel and Esme quietly discussing music, with me asleep on Esme's shoulder, drooling.

"Gross." I whispered, pulling us out of the memory. Edward laughed.

"It was adorable."

Carlisle has some interesting theories. I thought. He reluctantly agreed.

Would you really want to drink blood? While still human? You remember what happened that day we did blood typing in Biology?

I remembered that all too well. Edward shared images of him carrying me to the nurse. I, in turn, showed him how happy and safe I felt to be in his arms. I also showed him a mental image of pickles and ice cream. He cracked up laughing. How is that at all comparable?

Pregnant women have weird cravings. Things that would normally be disgusting that are really good while they are pregnant. Maybe blood will be like pickles and ice cream to normal women.

Normal women. That definitely has never included you. He said jokingly, laughing and smiling handsomely at me. I yawned again, and again. He moved his hand off of my face and looked into my eyes, dazzling me as only he could do. He then gently kissed all over my face before taking me more tightly into his arms and humming my lullaby. I was asleep within seconds.
