Emma in the middle- part 20
LyssLovesSnowing33 asked for a oneshot of another instalment of "Emma in the middle" (the last being Ch3055- part 19) where an 11 year old Emma is injured at one of her competitions when her parents aren't there. When she gets home she expects her parents will want to assess her, but they never come. Days later, Snow sees evidence of the injury and asks Emma how she got it, making Emma upset. Little does Emma know her parents then do some digging into what happened and why they weren't told.
This will be the last Emma in the middle I will write on this story. If I have any more requests for it I'll move it to a separate story where, I'll tell you now, it will not be updated very frequently.
Snow and David were determined to get to the bottom of this. Frankly, they were both fuming.
Emma had been to a crossbow tournament the week before. Snow and David had left her to go unattended, as both had other duties that needed attending to. This wasn't new to Emma. In fact, it was a rare treat when either of her parents graced her with their presence at a tournament. Unfortunately at this one, there was a malfunction with Emma's bow. She ended up grazing her side quite badly and had to stop.
Emma had at least expected her parents to come and check on her themselves when she returned home. She was laid up in bed, bandaged by the physician at the tournament. Normally if she was injured bad enough at least one of them came to see her injuries for themselves. This time, one of the physicians from the palace saw that she'd been patched up well enough and that was that. Emma was of course hurt, but not really surprised. Maybe now that she was growing up they would stop caring altogether. Emma wasn't to know at that point neither of her parents had been informed of her injury.
It was a few days later that Snow first became aware of it. She'd noted that Emma seemed to be walking rather stiffly, but put it down to sleeping awkwardly. When she stretched one morning though, she revealed her bandages.
"Emma, what happened?!" Snow asked, coming over and lifting her top slightly to properly see the bandage. Emma looked down, barely remembering the injury.
"Oh, that's still the graze from my crossbow tournament." Emma explained. "Nothing new, it's just still healing." Emma said with a shrug. Her mother gave her a blank stare. "You know, my bow messed up and I ended up shooting myself?" Emma reminded her. Did she not even remember? Emma tried not to show that it got to her, but it was hard. "I'm fine." She muttered, shrugging her mother off and leaving. Snow called after her, but Emma didn't return. Snow went straight to David and asked him, only to find out he too was clueless. Now they both had to hunt down who was responsible for them not knowing their child had been badly injured for a week without them knowing. It was perhaps though partially their responsibility that they didn't know. Even if they didn't see that yet.
