Chapter 8: A Well of a Time
After the good news about Carl, and the bad about Otis, everyone agreed that it would be respectful to have a small ceremony over Otis' death.
The whole time during the small funeral they held for the lose of Otis, Kagome couldn't keep her eye's off of Shane for more than a minute. He was lying through his teeth about what happened to Otis. She didn't even know the man and she could tell.
After the ceremony Wade placed a hand on Kagome's should and motioned for her to follow him.
Sighing, Kagome nodded and followed after him, with Souta hot on her heels. "I'm coming too."
Wade turned around and starred at him for a moment before shaking his head. "I need to speak with your sister in private."
"It's ok Wade, he needs to know about it too, not to mention I need to keep an eye on him after all the blood he transferred to Carl. He still looks pale." Kagome explained.
Wade thought over it for a moment before nodding his head slightly. "Very well." Turning back around, he started heading towards the huge oak tree they had decided to park the Rav at. Even though it wasn't with Rick's group, it was close enough to where if anything happened, they could reach them quickly or make a run for the nearby barn.
Wade mentioned something about it being a good vantage point since they could see most of Hershel's property from the tree. Greg agreed with him, saying that it was a snipers intuition. Kagome, Souta, and Chouko didn't argue. If Greg and Wade agreed on something, there was no changing their minds anyway.
When they finally reached the huge tree, Which Souta was grateful for, he was out of breath. Wade leaned against it and gave Kagome a look that reminded her of Sesshomaru. "What is wrong with that Shane guy, you were giving him the evil eye during the whole ceremony. That is something you don't do without reason."
Taking a seat in the back of the Rav (Souta opened it so he didn't have to sit on the ground), she crossed her arms over her chest and looked back to where she could see Rick's group gathering around an old white pick-up. "There is something... off about him. He wasn't telling the whole truth about Otis' death and his entire aura screams to not trust him. He's bad news." She then looked over at Souta and gave him a serious look. "I don't want you or Chouko anywhere around him unless you have one of the adults with you, preferably Wade, Greg, Daryl, or Dale. They are the only one's I trust to be around him. I can tell that him and Rick are close. Even if I can already tell they are growing apart. Do I make myself clear?"
Nodding his head in the affirmative, Souta ran a hand through his hair. "I'll just tell Chouko that I don't trust him and to not be alone with him. Since you know... she doesn't know about your powers."
Wade stood in front of them and looked at both of them. "I'll tell Greg to not let either of you around him unless someone is with you. He won't ask questions." He then looked at Kagome sharply. "This includes you, while I know you can take care of yourself, at least have Remy with you just in case. Understood?" Said dog was laying at their feet.
At her nod, he then changed the subject. "Since we are apparently going to stay with these people for a while, we may as well help them look for the girl. Make ourselves useful."
At the siblings nods, they headed back towards the rest of the group.

After agreeing to not carry guns around the property (which Shane was highly pissed about), except for in the shooting area's. Maggie looked at Rick and asked. "That stuff you brought, do you have anymore antibiotics, bandages, anything like that?"
"We do."
The whole group turned to look at Kagome, with Wade and Souta behind her. "We have a whole bag of medical supplies, we are low on gauze though, I used nearly all of it taking care of T-Dog. We could use some more sterile needles too."
Looking at Hershel, Maggie gave him a pointed look. "We are short on our own supp-"
Shane interrupted her though.
Pointing to Kagome and Wade, he glared at Rick and Hershel. "Wait, who the hell are these people? I don't remember seeing them before Otis and I left."
Maggie glared back at him. "These are the people who saved T-Dog's life when him and Dale were waiting on you guys. Souta also had a huge part in saving Carl's life. You owe them your thanks."
Turning to look back at the small group for a moment, he then looked back at Hershel and Rick. "Even so, you are allowing them to stay? We don't even know them."
"They have been nothing but helpful and kind to us since they arrived. I have no problem with letting them stay on my property as long as they remain so and follow any ground rules I lay out." Hershel explained.
Dumbfounded, Shane then looked at Rick. "You agree with him?"
Nodding, Rick pointed to Wade. "He is a professional Sniper from the National Guard. We could use someone of his skill with us. The other man, Greg, was in the National Guard too, both would be a huge asset to us. Kagome and Souta have already saved the lives of not only my son, but T-Dog as well. They have earned their place among us. Hershel has also already agreed to letting Wade carry his rifle with him in case Dale or Andrea miss something in the distance on their watch."
Slamming his fist on the hood of the truck, Shane then quickly turned around and headed to the RV. "Fine then, let them stay, won't be my fault if they turn on you all."
Everyone watched him go before Rick turned to look at Kagome. "I'm sorry about his behavior. He is just stressed."
Giving the ex-sheriff a small smile, Kagome shook her head. "It's alright, I understand where he is coming from."
Nodding, Rick turned his attention back to Maggie. "See this guy behind me?" He asked Pointing to Glenn. "He is our go-to guy when it comes to making runs into towns. Would be best to have him come with you, just in case."
At her father's nod of approval, Maggie told Rick a quick "thanks" before heading over to where Glenn and Dale were.
Kagome looked over at Souta. "Go check up on Chouko and Greg. I think I saw them inside the house helping Patricia. You need to rest also. You're not back to full strength yet."
Nodding to his sister, Souta left with out a word.
"Now, I want to explain something to the lot of you."
All eye's turned to Hershel. Who was looking at Rick with a pointed look. "Once your boy is fit to travel and we reach a conclusion about the missing girl, I expect you and your people, including your's. " He looked to Wade and Kagome. "to leave my property and head on your own ways. I don't need your people hoping that staying here is permanent, understand?"
All was quiet for a few moments before Kagome quietly responded. "We understand."
"Good, now, we all have work to do."

She was upset, but that was to be expected. She was hoping that they would be able to stay here longer.
She screamed in frustration when she broke another arrow. Startling Chouko awake who was napping beside her on a cot.
"Sorry..."
Yawning and rubbing her eye's, the younger girl then looked at Kagome sleepily. "It's fine Kag's, we knew it would of come up sooner or later. Just be happy we are staying as long as we are."
Sighing lightly to herself, she was about to respond back to her, when she noticed that Chouko had gone back to sleep already. She tried making another arrow, only for it to break again from the wood being too brittle.
Cursing to herself in Japanese, she tossed the broken arrow in a random direction.
"Making arrows in anger never ends well you know."
Looking up to glare at the owner of the voice, she saw Daryl smirking down at her.
She motioned to the one arrow he had with him. "At least my arrow's are easier to come by than your's."
"Touché."
She took notice that he had his crossbow with him. "Where are you going?"
Adjusting the strap of his crossbow, he motioned towards the woods. "Going to look for Sofia near the creek surrounding the property."
Tilting her head to the side slightly, she noticed that he looked tense. "Want me to come with you?"
"No, I want to go alone this time."
She snorted. "So says the guy who would have had a Walker sneak up on him if he didn't have company."
Looking away from her, Daryl grumbled. "I was just distracted."
She smirked. "At least you admit it. Just be careful, ok?"
Nodding to her, he gave her a quiet "I will." Before heading back towards the woods.
Watching him for a few moments, Kagome turned her attention to one of the wells, some of the group were gathered around it. Looking to Remy, she told him to stay with Chouko. When he laid down next to the cot she was laying on. Kagome made her way towards them.
About halfway there, she noticed that everyone started scrambling around trying to get something on the ground. Jogging over to them, she noticed that they were pulling on a rope.
"Whats going on!?"
Shane glanced at her before him along with everyone else tumbled to the ground. "Glenn is in the well with a Walker, grab some rope and help pull!"
Not stopping to ask why he was in the well with a Walker, Kagome grabbed some rope next to Dale and Lori and started helping the others pull. She could faintly hear Glenn's panicked screams from within the well.
Once they finally got him pulled out, her and Lori knelled next to him asking if he was alright, at his nod, they took the rope tied around him off and then looked up at Shaneand Dale.
Dale was panting with his hands on his hips. "Well, looks like we are going to have to go back to the drawing board."
Glenn then stood up and gave Dale the rope he was holding. "Says you."
As soon as he walked off, Dale could feel the rope moving.
Kagome then looked at Maggie. "Go get a horse to help pull it out."
Nodding one, Maggie ran off to get one of the horses she got for the trip to town her and Glenn were suppose to take later in the day. Once she came back, she tied the rope to the horn of the horses saddle. "Alright we're good!"
Once everyone was in position, Shane started a countdown. "Alright everyone, on three we pull together. One, two, three, PULL!"
As they all pulled T-Dog was standing near the mouth of the well, giving direction on how close the Walker was to the top of the top. "Its almost there, keep pulling guys!"
Once the Walker starting going over the lip of the well, it wouldn't move.
Growling in frustration, Kagome noticed that the bottom half of the Walker wasn't going over the lip of the well. "The damn thing is stuck!"
Cursing to himself, Shane yelled at everyone. "Pull harder!"
Pulling with everything they had, nearly everyone fell when the Walker split in half. Its lower half falling back into the well.
Once everyone got their breath back, they surrounded the still alive Walker.
"We need to seal off this well."
Everyone agreed with Dale.
Andrea was about to ask what to do with the Walker when T-Dog starting bashing its head in with a lead pipe.
After he regained his breath, he gave everyone a look. "Good thing we didn't do anything stupid and shoot him in the head." He said sarcastically before walking back to the RV.
Everyone watched him walk away for a few moments, before heading their own separate ways.
