Fire
Inlovewiththecharmings asked for a oneshot of there being a huge fire at the loft in the middle of the night. Snowing and Emma are trying to get out with Snowing's main concern being Emma. Everything is ruined, but they all get out alive with just smoke inhalation.
It was David who woke first. There had been an almighty crash. Before he even opened his eyes, he was acutely aware of the distinct smell of smoke. His eyes flew open. He could already see thick, grey smoke sneaking in through the bottom of their bedroom curtain. David leapt out of bed and shoved the closest pair of shoes on.
"Snow!" He yelled. He roughly shook her shoulder. "Snow, there's a fire! You need to wake up now!" He shouted. Snow's eyes opened to. She went through the same sleepy process as David, right up to grabbing the closest pair of shoes.
"Emma." Both parents said together. That girl could sleep through world war three. There was no way she would be awake already.
"I'll get her." David said. Snow went to argue, but David stopped her. "Just get out."
"Not without you both." Snow replied firmly. David sighed. They didn't have time to argue.
"Call the fire brigade!" He yelled as he dashed from the room. He could see that the blaze was coming from the kitchen. Luckily it hadn't reached the stairs yet. David coughed and spluttered as he climbed up the stairs towards Emma's room. "Emma!" He shouted as he burst into her room. "Emma, wake up, now! There's a fire!" Emma sat up groggily in her bed, dazed and confused.
"Huh?" She said. David came over and carefully pulled her out of the bed. He grabbed her a pair of shoes. "We need to leave. The whole apartment is ablaze." He explained. "Your mom is waiting for us. She won't leave. We need to go." He told her. Emma's head felt as smoky as the downstairs of their home was fast becoming. She quickly shoved on the shoes her dad had grabbed for her. She had just enough power in her brain to remember one thing: her blanket. Everything else could be replaced, not that. Emma always kept it under her pillow while she slept. She reached under, pulled it out, and shoved it under her top to keep it safe. When she was ready, David took hold of her hand and began to lead her to safety.
Snow was waiting for them both at the bottom of the stairs. She took Emma's free hand, and they made a chain towards the exit.
"The fire brigade are on the way!" Snow shouted over the roaring flames. The heat in the building was becoming insufferable. Had David not woken up when he did…none of them wanted to think about it. Luckily though, he had woken up, and they were all safe.
Soon, the fire brigade arrived alongside an ambulance. The three members of the family were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and shock. They were lucky that's all they needed treatment for. Snow and David kept getting into trouble from the paramedics for displacing their oxygen masks as they checked on Emma. They didn't care. They just care about making sure she was alright.
Unlike their home, which was burned to a crisp. All that remained was ashes. All their keepsakes and memories…gone in an instant. Still, they were just grateful they weren't gone along with them.
