When parents leave the nest
Julia asked for a oneshot of David gifting Snow a weekend out of town for just the two of them to celebrate their anniversary. She is unsure about leaving because she feels like there's always a villain after their kids and they might need them and they wouldn't be there.
David had hoped for a much better reaction from Snow when she opened the envelope containing the tickets. Their anniversary was coming up, and David had thought hard about what Snow might like. Eventually, he settled on a weekend away together. The town line had been open for residents of Storybrooke to come and go as they pleased for months now. They just hadn't had a chance to explore since they had Neal. David thought Snow would love a chance for them to go on a little private adventure, just the two of them, together. Instead, he couldn't help but notice Snow seemed less than enthused when she opened her present. As much as she tried to hide it.
"What? What's wrong?" He asked her. "I double checked that's when the school holidays are. I thought you'd prefer a sunny holiday to somewhere cold, but I can always change where we go if you'd like…" Snow shook her head, placing a hand on David's knee. He was now grateful he'd chosen to give her this present in private.
"No, David, you've put so much thought into this and I love it, I really do. I'm so sorry, I'm spoiling everything…"
"Snow, it's your present. You know you can tell me anything. What's wrong?" He asked her again. Snow sighed.
"We never seem to catch a break from villains in this family. I'm anxious about leaving the kids in town alone. What if someone else pops up? There seem to be a lot of crazy witches out there trying to kidnap at least one of our kids. What if we're not there to protect them?" Snow said, her fears coming out.
"Emma is going to be looking after Neal. She thinks that's it. She doesn't know I've asked Regina to put a kind of burglar alarm style protective spell around the house. Gold is going to keep an eye as well and Granny has been instructed to feed them lest Emma burn the place down." David rhymed off. Snow looked at him through adoring eyes. "What? You didn't think I'd leave my children behind unprotected, did you? Snow, I'm just as worried about them both as you. If we're leaving without them, you'd better be damn sure I've got a whole army watching their backs. After all, had they grown up back home they wouldn't even have been allowed to leave home without a handful of soldiers. I'm just making sure they have the royal protection they deserve. Even if Emma doesn't need to know it." David said. Snow pulled David over into a kiss that left them both breathless.
"How are you so perfect?" Snow sighed. David smiled.
"Because I have the perfect wife. Happy anniversary, my love."
