No sleep tonight
Kate asked for a oneshot of Snowing trying to help Emma sleep in the Underworld, since they discover that since being the Dark One she doesn't sleep.
Even though they were in a near mirror image of their own home from the land above, nobody trusted the inhabitants of the Underworld enough to sleep without a guard watching. So a schedule was set up to make sure somebody was always up keeping watch. Snow and David had taken the first watch, but couldn't help but notice how tense Emma was in her slee. So tense that there was no way she was asleep: she was awake. This was their third night in the Underworld, and the third night Emma clearly hadn't slept. It was time they did something.
"Emma?" Snow whispered, as she and David walked over to her, careful not to wake the others. "Emma, honey?" Emma did a reasonable attempt at pretending to have just woken up at her parents calling her name.
"Is it my turn to watch?" She whispered. She was glad when it was. Then she didn't have to pretend to be asleep. David shook his head.
"No, it's still ours, but we know you haven't been sleeping anyway." David told her. Emma sighed. She thought she'd have to have this conversation eventually.
"Please talk to us." Snow asked. "Maybe we can help?"
"You can't." Emma said quietly. "I haven't slept since I was the Dark One." She admitted. Snow and David thought that might be the case.
"That doesn't mean we can't help." David said. "Your mother struggled to sleep after the sleeping curse, but we got there in the end. We can with you as well." David promised his daughter as he and Snow sat down either side of her. Snow gently rubbed her back as David began to lull the familiar tune. The one he'd hummed for Snow when she couldn't sleep.
Emma couldn't deny the song pulled her towards relaxation. She didn't sleep that first night, but her parents wouldn't sleep until she did.
