Chapter 3: Discoveries (Snow Way Out Dagur's Side) Dagur

A/N: I just want to say sorry if you get on the story and it is all code. Fanfiction kept turning everything I posted into code so I have to go back and check it and now my story shows I have more views in one area then another. Yeah this all became and big mess. But I am pushing through the best I can hopeful from now on it will go easier.

(Dagur)

Dagur watches the wood burn as the fire crackles in front of him. Heather said she had intel of a second dragon eye. It sounded crazy, but who was Dagur to judge what was crazy or not. And Dagur definitely would never think of Heather to lie to him, but it still did not mean that Dagur trusted the intel.

Dagur looks up at The Armored Hunter. A weird name, but that was what all the hunters called them. Ever since Dagur joined forces with the hunters to get hold of the dragon eye he had always seen The Armored Hunter lurking around behind Ryker's shoulder or making sure people followed his command. Though every once in a while, they would disappear one night and be gone for a few days then reappear in the morning.

Dagur had decided after a week or two to ask around to learn more about them. So that when the time came, he and Heather could take them out along with Ryker and any other hunter that stood in their way. Though the answers were all about the same. Which sadly gave little information about who this person was. All he knew was.

A) The Armored Hunter was someone to be feared. They were ruthless and were not afraid to shed a little blood. Shown by the fact that they were in charge of the dragon hunters' training.

B) No one knew who or what The Armored Hunter looked like. They said only the supreme leaders of the Dragon Hunters knew what lay behind their mask and armor.

C) The Armored Hunter's rank was about as high as you could go. Ryker was only one rank above them. That meant they had a say in most operations but could not go against anything Ryker ordered. Good to know. Bad for him. It meant Dagur would have to follow The Armored Hunter's orders.

D) Well this one went with A but should be counted separately. The Armored Hunter excelled in stealth. If you were on their bad side, you should be worried. Most of the time you forgot if The Armored Hunter was even standing right next to you.

Dagur starts to stand. If he was going to be stuck here on this mission he might as well talk to them himself. After all they did not seemed too pleased to be stuck here helping find the second dragon eye. Though right as Dagur was about three feet away from them, they stand up straight and step away from the tree they were leaning on. Dagur notices that the dagger they always seem to be sharpening, even though in was already rather sharp, slip into a hidden pocket along their arm.

The Armored Hunter mumbles, "Okay," and takes a breath before walking into the middle of the group of hunters and Berserkers. "Listen up. We must be on high alert for any riders. Our mission is to find an object of great concern but do not capture any dragons. That being said we should still look out for dragons also. Do not attack any dragons that are docile, but if there is a dragon that comes near our camp and becomes a threat. I give permission for you to take care of it with non-permanent methods. Other than that I want a night patrol around the camp with shifts to make sure everyone gets sleep. I will patrol the southern part of the island. No one come bother me since I can most assure you that you will regret it. Now everyone to bed or your shift. I do not want any lollygagging."

They turn and take a deep breath as the hunters and Berserkers grumble as they head to tents or posts. Dagur looked at The Armored Hunter with a new interest. Maybe The Armored Hunter had a weakness. It was clear by that little speech they were uncomfortable around large groups of people. Could he use that as an advantage against them?

Dagur hurried to catch up to The Armored Hunter. Just stay far enough away that they would not hear him.

When they get to the other side of the island. Dagur sees them pause in front of a small pond. They bend down to fill up a water skin when suddenly a large dragon appears. It seems to blend in with the sky. It was covered in small dark blue and black scales. Lighter blue spines snaked down it's back. The dragon looked a lot like The Armored Hunter's armor. The dragon growls and walks to where it is almost right on top of The Armored Hunter.

The dragon lets out a deep growl and Dagur sees The Armored Hunter turn towards it. The dragon pushes The Armored Hunter straight into the water knocking their helmet off. As they sit back up, he sees that they are coughing water out of their mouth.

Though to Dagur's surprise instead of attacking the dragon they sit there laughing. "Nightshade, you know it takes forever for my hair to dry out!" A high-pitched voice rings out.

Dagur watches as they stand up. He tried to make as many observations as possible he could from the silhouette of their head in the dark. A few things stood out to him. First, The Armored Hunter's hair fell down their back in two long braids. And secondly their face had small, but soft features. Then it came to him. "You're a girl," he say but suddenly realizes spoke aloud.

The Armored Hunter's gaze shoots up to where he is standing. They nod with their head and the dragon makes their way over to him. Dagur tries to back away from the dragon, but it's tail snakes around his leg and drags him out of the trees. Till he is right in front of The Armored Hunter who sadly had already put their helmet back on.

"What are you doing here? Why were you spying on me?" She says her voice filled with anger.

Her hand suddenly presses down hard against his chest and venom fills her voice. "Tell one person I am a girl and I promise you a very long and painful death."

"I promise, now do you mind moving your knee off of me it is very close to a place I would rather it not be."

She looks down at her knee before moving in to besides Dagur's waist instead of on top of it. "Sorry," she mumbles.

She stares at him for a few minutes before standing up and walking back over to the dragon. "You should get going back to the camp to get some sleep. I will be back later tonight."

Dagur turns to walk away, but just as he is about to disappear back into the woods, she calls out to him.

"What?" Dagur asks.

"Just please don't tell anyone I am a girl. If you do, I am not quite sure what will happen."

"Why are you so worried about people finding out you are a girl?"

The Armored Hunter lets out a forced chuckle. "The Hunters' tribe has a strict social class. Very rarely can females get high positions. Mostly women are expected to stay at home. Cleaning and whatnot all those boring tasks. But since my I was close to the chief and I loved fighting and was really good at it. They decided to allow me to help with the dragon hunting. I don't exactly agree with most methods, but if I am on mission and can at least help the best I can with limiting the harm that befalls the dragons."

"But that does not answer my question."

"Well, if people found out I was a girl. And in a community where females are lower on the social status. Would you listen to one? Especially one who is younger than you by quite a few years."

"I guess not. Well I mean I would listen to my sister. Because well she is my sister, but anyone else. Probably not." The Armored Hunter nods her head registering what I said.

We stand in an awkward silence for a few minutes before she breaks it. "So what got you into dragon hunting. I was aware that people inside the archipelago fought dragons, but I though it was just during raids and when searching for the dragon nest. And if what I heard was correct that all stopped when the Red Death was defeated."

"It did, in fact my tribe got into a war with Berk because of that. But that is a long story."

"Tell me." The Armored Hunter sits down with her back against a tree.

I tell her about the treaty signing with Berk and how they faked that they still killed dragon. Then how I found out Hiccup rode a Night Fury and how all of Berk trained dragons. I told her about how I got arrested and thrown in jail for 3 years. I tell her how I escaped. I tell her what all happened between the riders and I since I escaped but leave out any mention of the dragon eye incase it makes her worried, I might steal it from the hunters once they get it. Even though that is what I am going to do.

She listens the whole time. Nodding when she agrees with something I say. When I finish, I look at her and realize I am meaning to ask her something. "What should I call you. I mean The Armored Hunter has a certain fear factor to it, but since we actually know a little about each other. I was wondering if you would prefer something else."

"Call me S. It is what Ryker and Viggo call me."

"Viggo?"

"I probably should not tell you, but Viggo Grimborn is the Dragon Hunter Chief. Ryker is Viggo's bigger brother. They don't get along that well when they are around each other due to the fact that they are practically opposites."

"What do you mean by opposites?"

"Ryker as you probably know is all about brute force and crushing any who oppose him. He also does not always think everything through because he feels like if you wait then your chance will disappear. While Viggo on the other hand is all about strategy and game play. He is a patient person and likes to outthink his opponent and use it against them. He is rarely one to go straight to violence."

"Interesting," Dagur nods his head saving that information to tell Heather later. "So, which…" Dagur get cut off by S when she stands up. He was going to ask her which category she felt like she fit into, but it looks like that is not going to happen.

"It is getting late. I still have a few tasks I need to take care of, and you should get back to get some sleep."

"Why do you keep insisting I need sleep? What about you don't you need sleep?" Dagur asks exaggerating the pronouns.

"I should get a least a few hours of sleep which I plan on getting. But I slept extra last night and so I can get less sleep than I normally do. I will have no lasting effect of lack of sleep since I have gone days without sleeping before. So naturally I need less sleep than most people. Whereas most people I know including you probably need a regular amount of sleep," she snaps at Dagur.

"Fine," Dagur says standing up. "I will head back and gets some sleep." Because truth be told Dagur was really starting to feel tired from getting up so early that morning. "See you tomorrow." Dagur walks off back to the camp leave S in the darkness with the strange kind of dragon he had never seen before tonight.

A/N: I know this was a short chapter, but I honestly could not think of much more to add without accidentally spoiling anything that will come in later in the story.

I am trying to keep Dagur in character as best I can, but I realized he is hard to write especially when he is with the hunters. So he maybe a little off character in this story. I apologize for that.

So the Armored Hunter is revealed to be a girl as well as having a dragon. How do you think the riders will react when they find out this?

Do you think that Dagur will keep his promise and tell no one that The Armored Hunter is a girl?

I will probably post the next chapter in two weeks' time. That way I can write the next chapter and start the next chapter after that.
