Unknown loss
Ebble asked for a oneshot of Emma having a miscarriage as a teen in the EF and faining from blood loss in front of her parents. Trigger warning for miscarriage.
Emma hadn't even known herself. She was still so young, only seventeen. How could she have known she was in the early stages of pregnancy, never mind that she was suffering a miscarriage?
When she came down to breakfast that morning, it was immediately clear that something was wrong. Emma was white as a sheet.
"Sweetheart, are you feeling well? You look awful pale." Snow said, worried. She placed her hand on Emma's forehead. She didn't seem to have a temperature.
"I'm perhaps not feeling my best." Emma answered honestly. She was getting terrible cramps. She was overdue her monthlies, maybe this was them arriving now?
"Why don't you go back to bed, honey? We'll have your breakfast sent up." David suggested, coming over and kissing Emma on the top of the head. He didn't like seeing Emma unwell. Emma nodded.
"Perhaps that would be best." She agreed. She held onto the table as she got up out her seat. She regretted standing up almost instantly. She felt like the blood had drained from her head.
"Emma, you're bleeding!" She faintly heard her mother say, as if she was far away. Emma didn't have a chance to respond. She swayed on the spot before collapsing on the ground.
When Emma woke up, she was tucked back up in bed. Her parents were by her side, clearly deeply concerned. Emma couldn't help but notice her father could hardly look at her.
"What happened?" Emma asked, disorientated. Her parents didn't seem to know what to say. "What's wrong?" Emma asked, more firmly.
"Emma, after you fainted, we called straight for Doc." Snow began to explain. "He came to examine you and explained that you were losing blood because…" Snow lost her voice.
"Because what?" Emma demanded. What was wrong with her.
"Because you had lost a baby." Snow choked out. Snow sat back against her pillow, stunned. "Emma, I'm sorry, but you have suffered a miscarriage." The room was silent for a few minutes. Emma tried to take in what her mother had told her.
"I…I didn't even know I was pregnant." Emma breathed. Emma's head was spinning. How was this possible? Well, she knew how this was possible, she wasn't that naïve, but how could she not know? Emma felt a tear slide down her cheek. How could she grieve a child she did not know she was having?
