Chapter 40: Hello, Cruel World

The sound of gunfire engrossed the entire room. The sounds echoing throughout the room in shock and…dismay. As the person who got shot was Castiel vessel at the end of the Colt's barrel. Yet the Leviathans who inhabited the vessel remained standing eyes widen followed by a smile turning into a Cheshire grin.

I gasped in horror as my hands shake with the Colt still aimed at the vessel's chest. This should've worked! The Colt was created to kill demons and monsters. It killed vampires and a phoenix…so why didn't it work? Why is the vessel still standing, or better yet, why are the Leviathans still alive? Leviathans are a beast, aren't they? So they should have died?

Then I remembered what Lucifer said, "There are only five things in all creation that gun can't kill."

God, Archangels, and now Leviathans.

Shit!

Suddenly the veins in the vessel started to protrude out of his skin, much darker. Nearly a black spider web!

"Awe, did your little toy gun failed you?" The Leviathan said, then yanked the gun out of my hand and looked down. Black blood oozed out of the wound.

"You're vessel is not gonna last." I wheezed.

The leviathan scowled and tossed me across the room and into Dean. He groaned yet kept a defensive hold on me. Meanwhile, the Leviathan walked over to us then stops for a black blood oozed from him.

"Your vessel is going to explode, ain't it" Dean commented. "Wouldn't do anything too strenuous. In fact, I call it a day, head on home. Huh?"

"We'll be back for you." The leviathan warned, giving us a look to all three of us. Afterward, limped its way out; leaving a trail of black blood.

"Well…this is a new one," Bobby said.

I gawked as the black ooze on my hand.

"We need to find Sam," Dean said.

We nodded in pain before grabbing our weapons and finding Sam. Something was wrong, I sensed Sam was struggling. I don't know what, which is a downside of my ability. I know things, but when it came to certain individuals who have other abilities it is a struggle. Fortunately, we found Sam, panting against the wall in deep thought. Dean rushed over placing a hand on his shoulder snapping his brother out of it. Sam gasped almost fighting back but stopped.

"Whoa!" Dean replied as fright was written on his brother's face. "Look at me. Hey! Alright, we got to button this up. Come on. Let's get out of here."

Sam breathed heavily and nodded.

We left the building and went to find Castiel vessel. We don't know what the Leviathans would do. Could they take another vessel from a security guard? Would they be free in a new form? Hell, what can we do if the Colt doesn't work? Following the black ooze, we spotted them entering the local municipal water system.

But we were too late as the vessel went underwater, and a black explosion erupted. Like black ink in water, close to ink splotches, the leviathans were free.

"Aw, hell," Bobby grumbled.

We were dumbfounded by what we saw. They were in the areas water supplies, hundreds, maybe thousands of them. All we know they are more than a common beast and can possess humans like demons. The colt can't kill them, and my ability nags me that no simple hunter weapon can.

"Damn it," Dean panted

"I second that," I sighed.

"Those…whatever-you-call- 'em," Bobby started.

"Leviathan," Sam corrected.

"Right," Bobby said. "They're in the pipes. They got themselves a highway to anywhere."

"Awesome," Dean sighed, and then looked down.

In the lake that drifted up was Castiel trench cloak. Dean kneeled down and picked the article of clothing. This was the only thing we had left to our friend. Pain could be seen in Dean's eyes.

"Okay. So, he's gone." Dean choked out.

"Yup," Bobby agreed. "Rest in peace… if that's in the cards."

"Dumb son of a bitch," Dean said, trying to hold it together as he folded the damp trench coat.

"Well he was friends with us, wasn't he?" Bobby asked. "Can't get much dumber than that. Come on, those things will be coming up for air soon."

With nothing else to say we left the lake. No one truly said a work. We all got in Bobby's truck, driving back to Sioux Falls. No one said away. Though, I occupied myself with medication a trick Athena taught me to gather information with my ability. See what my clairvoyance could find. So much information came in. I could see so much water being used, how there are car washes, simple chores of washing dishes, water fountains, pools, showers, anything associated with water is a threat. Many ages from children to the elderly were being targeted. Though, I sensed it's not the average citizen are being used like demons would prefer. I could see suits, American flags…here political talk.

"You sense anything, Sky?" Bobby asked.

I open my eyes, "They are confident. Targeting anybody, yet I know some are going higher ranking."

"Higher-ranking?" Dean asked.

"Suits, all I got were suits," I said.

"Great," Bobby muttered.

Suits are a hard thing for hunters. Dealing with local authorities is one thing, but anybody in a suit means more power. Last time, the boys had to deal with the FBI special agent Victor Henriksen.

I took a deep breath and Looked at Sam who was still out of it. Something happened to him, I know it's a confrontation with him. When he noticed I was staring, his eyes said it all. He was questioning everything. There was doubt.

The next day, I took my jeep and went to the grocery store to buy a lot of water. If the Leviathan is in the water system, it's better safe than sorry. The store clerk was surprised to see me spend a couple of bills in water bottles, beers, and other liquids, yet I lied, saying it was charity and repaying the volunteer workers who need a good drink at the end of the day. She bought the lie and I drove making calls to some hunters I have contact with to stock up on water bottles and to avoid black water, explaining there is a new beast out there that can possess humans through the water. The hunters appreciated the heads up staying they will stock up and by water that was before the Leviathans release.

When I got back to Bobby's there was a confused Bobby, a pissed off Dean, and a guilty looking Sam who was the center of the attention.

"What happened?" I asked setting the package of water bottles down.

"Sam is hallucinating Lucifer!" Dean snapped.

"Que?" I said in Spanish out of confusion.

Dean sighed getting a cup of whiskey and glared at his brother, "What the hell, Sam?"

"I told you," Sam said casually.

"Like seriously. How do you—how do you argue with that?" Dean asked.

"I know. I-it's a problem." Sam agreed.

"Well, now, wait. I got it." Dean started trying to grasp the information. "Why would the devil holodeck you a whole new life when he could just kick your ass all over the cage?"

Sam sighed, "Cause, as he puts it…you can't torture someone who has nothing left for you to take away."

Sam then looked center of the room where there was nobody.

"Okay, fine," Dean growled. "But this Malibu dream mansion that he – he—makes for you to take away is this post-apocalyptic mess?"

Sam looked at the center of the room again. As if someone was speaking to him. All eyes went to the empty space.

"Is he here?" I asked.

Sam's eyes water a little and nodded. A cloud of dread consumed the room. Sam spent a few days in hell, then again it wasn't hell. It was Lucifer cage, with the devil and the archangel Michael. The damage those two have done to his soul. Then add the year of being soulless. The three of us take this as a failure. How we failed to save Sam from another daunting trial of misery. The Devil will never let him be in the world or the next.

I came over and took his hand, "Sam, he's not real."

Sam was shaken as he squeezes my hand, "He says the same thing about you."

It felt like somebody stabbed me in the chest. The man I love, his words felt like a person would feel if they don't love them after so long.

"I'm going back to work," Bobby said. "C'mon Skylar. I need my best researcher."

Looking at Sam one more time, I left to join Bobby.

We gather books from his storage on anything that could relate to the situation. Bobby decided he would handle the Sam problem while I focused on the Leviathan. I sat in the living room with Sam who was cleaning the guns. I was on the couch with the holy bible, the Old Testament, the Tanakh, Ancient Near East Origin, and so forth. As I read, I noticed Sam would look at me sometimes glaring yet he doesn't say anything. I shudder at the idea Lucifer was sitting next to me.

When Lucifer was around, he wanted me. The desire for me was in order to keep Sam in check. The ordeal, the confrontation I had with him for he had his minions and their hell hounds kill my mother and Jo. His offer to keep me alive, to make me immortal so he had control of Sam. That if Sam behaved, he would let Sam take control of the vessel now and then to be with me. The thought as Lucifer concubine terrified me. For even though Lucifer didn't say it, he would had his way with me as well either it be sexual or torture to control the vessel true owner. The white dress in the white rose garden. No…just no.

Suddenly I grabbed my cell phone and answered it, "Hello?"

"Harvelle, where are you?"

Shit, it was my boss.

When she calls at late hour it's serious.

"I'm at a family friend in South Dakota," I answered.

"Well, you be better to be in work in three days," Piper said. "I need my finest photographer for the Buckeyes."

"Um…it's not even football season." I reminded.

"OSU does more than football, now I'll see you in three days at noon." She ordered.

"Yes, ma'am," I answered.

Piper then hangs up. I sighed putting my phone away. So much being a few day of solving this case. Now I'm on the clock. As much as I'm a hunter and researcher I still have my real life. Anyway, I went back to my research.

.o0o.

The next day was spent with more research. That is until I took a break to watch the news. Sadly seeing which celebrity make the cutest couple didn't pop up, but a bloody bloodbath happened in Stockville, North Kansas where three members of the high-school swim team got butcher in the locker room. I showed this to Sam and Bobby and they agree it was our black goo friends. Or at least sounded like them. Bobby decided to check if there was any police talk on the wire, which he managed to find, but the distance made it difficult to hear.

It wasn't long when Dean came with some groceries.

"Hey, there, Gunga Din. Buck up," Bobby greeted.

Dean looked at us as Sam talked, "Skylar found something. It looked like we got some bad news for a change. Stockville, North Kansas – Most of the high school swim team got mangled to death in their locker room."

"Cop-talk on the wire's kind of garbled –"Bobby said as he stood. "Sayin' it looks like some kind of wild-animal attack."

"Based on the information, whatever attacks these students is about the size of a linebacker," I added. "And my clairvoyant gut is telling me it's relating to our situation."

"All right, but if you think you're going out to hunt…" Dean started

"No, I know," Sam assured. "I'm not. But you are."

Dean looked surprised.

"Look, Bobby is running the hub. Skylar is gonna leave soon for Columbus. I'm 5150'd, which leaves you to follow this thing up." Sam explained.

"Sam, you're in the middle of a psychotic break." Dean countered.

"It's a couple hour drive, Dean," Sam assured. "And it could be a leviathan thing. Sky has that feeling and she does…she's right."

Dean shook his head as he walked around the kitchen, "No, if you think I'm leaving you here alone…"

"What are we, chop liver?" I asked. "I can watch him."

Bobby nodded as he sat by his computer, "Work off some of these nerves on something useful."

Dean was shocked to be outnumbered, he shrugged, "Fine."

After packing up his suit and gear Dean headed off to check the case. Meanwhile, Bobby, Sam, and I continued researching and had a lunch break. I still keep finding the same situation about the leviathans.

They were created by God and willed be killed till the end of times, as Isaiah puts it. As I read Psalms 104 mention I noticed a passage that seemed interesting, "break the heads of Leviathan in pieces" before giving his flesh to the people of the wilderness." I wrote this done, and put an equal sign next to it follow by the words beheading with a question mark.

After spending countless hours on this, I realized it was late and took a break. Heading upstairs for a shower. The water was running when Sam came in while I stripped.

"Oh, sorry," Sam said.

I chuckled, "It's not like you haven't seen me naked before."

As I stood there in my bra and jeans.

Sam looked up and nodded.

We haven't been intimate since soulless Sam. Sure there were a few times we tried, but something was bothering him. Probably he had his soul back and now this situation.

"I've been a terrible boyfriend," Sam confessed.

"Oh really?" I asked playfully.

Sam nodded as he came closer, "Maybe…once I clear things….we could…on vacation?"

He was trying. He was truly trying to be strong for our relationship.

I smiled softly and cradle his cheek.

"I would like that," I answered. "Maybe go to Sandusky to Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay?"

Sam smiled leaned down and kissed me. They kissed was soft and gentle. When he pulled back, his eyes widen in shock looking up and down, with a hint of anger. I looked over my shoulder to see if there was somebody behind me. There was no one. Sighing, it was Lucifer. Lucifer in his head must be doing something to my body. Now that I think about it, an image of his vessel groping my breast. The thought made me shudder.

"Excuse me," Sam said before leaving.

I sighed and went to take a quick shower.

After my shower, I came down finding Bobby talking to Sam. When I finally joined them, Bobby telephone went off and he answered it.

"Hello?" He asked then gave a confused look. "Come again? Who is this? Jody? Gotcha. "

A minute he handed up and looked at us. "Well, either Sheriff Mills is having an Obamacare-insured opium dream or something's eating folks down at Sioux Falls General Hospital."

"Didn't that happen with the zombies?"

I asked.

I remember Bobby telling the time Death resurrected the dead townsfolks of Sioux Falls under Lucifer's orders. Bobby's wife came back to life, and Sheriff Mills got her son back. It was a hard time for everyone. Especially for Bobby.

Bobby went to grab his coat, "Look, I-I don't want to bruise your ego or anything…"

"No, no, no, it's….it's okay," Sam assured. "You should take Sky with you."

"Are you sure?" I asked concern.

"Yeah, go, go, go. I'll watch the phones." Sam said.

Bobby nodded and he and I took his car and headed to the hospital.

Once we got there, I called for a cab staying at the spot while Bobby went to get Sheriff Mills. About ten minutes later the cab arrives. I told the driver to wait for a moment, and five minutes soon after Bobby returned with Sheriff Mills.

"Sheriff Mills?" I asked. She was a woman in her late thirties with dark hair and eyes.

"You must be Skylar," She replied.

I nodded, opening the cab door for her. She got out of the wheelchair and walked to the door though stumbled. Luckily Bobby caught her.

She chuckled, "Bobby Singer, my hero."

"That's the roofies talking," Bobby said.

Sheriff Mills chuckled as she got into the cab. After paying the driver, we went to investigate heading to the morgue. Bobby gave me the update, that Sheriff Mills roommate Madeline Hackett was taken this early morning and never came back. So we went into the morgue and searched for Mrs. Hackett in the refrigeration. Bobby opened the door and pulled the body out and removed the tarp till it reached her chest. I found a clipboard and read it.

"She was supposed to have foot surgery tomorrow," I announced.

"And already autopsied?" Bobby said pointing at the stitches, then pulled the tarp more finding the stomach cavity still open. "What the hell?"

"If I remember the human anatomy correctly, the spleen is missing."

Bobby nodded as he took a medical tool, opened the stitches and poked around as he moved the intestine. There were no organs whatsoever. No heart, lungs, liver, basically the stomach and the intestines are the only organs remaining.

"It's like a friggin doggy bag in here," Bobby commented.

"Can I help you?" A doctor entered with gray hair.

Bobby and I looked at him shock for there was no one down here. Quickly Bobby grabbed his badge showing his identification, "You can maybe still help this hospital. Who's responsible for this sloppy bit of documentation?"

"I know you," the doctor said as he approaches us.

"No, you got the wrong guy," Bobby said.

"Bobby…Singer. Yes." He said and looked at me with a Cheshire grin. "And Skylar Harvelle. We saw you- through the angel's eyes."

Bobby quickly grabbed a medical hammer and bashed it on the doctor's head. The doctor stumbled back, before standing up straight. A bit of black ooze dripping from his temple region.

"Let's try for amnesia, then," Bobby said as he forced us back, and then grabbed a shotgun.

The doctor wiped the blood off his temple and wiped the blood off. The next thing he did was leaned his head back, and a mouth of a monster with sharp jagged teeth and serpent split tongue appeared along with a roar. Not a second more, Bobby fired the shotgun. The beast stepped back, it faces returning to human. However, the shotgun shells bounced on the ground with black blood.

"Fair enough," Bobby mumbled amazed.

"Run!" I said.

With our tail between our legs we rushed out of the hospital, into the parking lot, and in the van driving away. As Bobby drove I called the boys putting them on speaker.

"Skylar, hey"' Sam panted on the other end.

"The sheriff was right," I managed to say. "The Hospital is definitely our Leviathan problem."

"I double-barreled one of them in the morgue," Bobby added. "Silver buckshot—no effect. Bled black ooze."

"Also they have a serpent mouth and everything else in their face goes missing."

"We're fallin' back," Bobby said. "We'll meet you at the house, we can regroup."

"Alright," Sam said before hanging up.

When we arrived at the house, Bobby and I rushed into the building, bobby saying he needed to do something and ordered I grabbed everyone's valuables quickly. Immediately, I gathered everyone's technology, weapons, and stuff into a duffle bag and took them into Ellen's jeep. When I turn to get Bobby, I found the building was on fire. Panicked, I rushed to get Bobby, except he grabbed me by the arm.

"Get in your car and follow me," He ordered.

"Your house," I gasped still in shock.

"No time," he grumbled as he forced me into my jeep.

I started up the jeep and watched Bobby get into his van. Afterward, we drove off leaving the junkyard and the house in burning blaze.

I know, it's been forever.

I've been busy and my mused for this story vanished. Hopefully, I can update soon.
